It feels like I just blinked and all of a sudden it is the last day of 2013, another year gone by. So much has happened, so many beautiful and special moments that I want to treasure and remember forever. Like most parents we try to record all these happy highlights, wonderful firsts, adorable smiles, as well as ordinary but precious moments, with our digital camera and during 2013 we have gathered quite the collection of digital snaps.

Look how much they've grown!

Look how much they’ve grown!

Since moving to Australia in 2006 I have really come to appreciate modern technology and not a week goes by that I don’t send my parents a few images of their grand children via e-mail. They may not be able to see the kids face-to-face but at least they can see them grow up through digital photos and Facetime. However like most proud grandparents they also like showing off their offspring to friends and family so I know they love some printed copies too.

Last January baby no.4 was still 'in the making'

Last January baby no.4 was still ‘in the making’

I don’t know about you but I never seem to find a moment to actually sit down, go through our digital photos and make a selection to print off, let alone make a photo album with them. It’s a shame because we have so many beautiful photos yet we hardly look at them. A few years ago I decided to make an effort at the end of each year to put together my favourite photos for that year, create a photo book online with Snapfish and have it printed for us and for my family.

Sleepy smiles and playground fun

Sleepy smiles and playground fun

The task of sorting through all our photos was a little daunting at first but I think I’ve worked out the quickest and easiest way to do it: First I divide the photos for the year into twelve months, that way the folders become more ‘bite size’ (so you can stop in between if you need). I browse each month separately and select up to 8 photos that really jump out to me (and that include each of the children), I copy these and pop them in a brand new ‘Snapfish 2013’ folder. At the end I have a lovely collection of photos for that year, representing each month, each child and every special occasion.

My 'stack' of babies, one of my favourite photos of the year

My ‘stack’ of babies, one of my favourite photos of the year

Looking through the photos is the lengthy (but enjoyable!) bit, because there are so many but also because every time I have to stop and reminisce, admiring how much my beautiful babies have grown. Making a Snapfish Photo Book is actually very simple, starting with uploading your new photo folder to the Snapfish website (or if you’re a big social media fan you can upload straight from your Instagram, Facebook or Flickr account). From there you can simply drop your photos in your electronic photo book and completely personalise it to suit your taste, from simple photos to collages to words and descriptions and many other artistic details.

The perfect gift, it never gets boring

Our family, a year in review

This is the 5th time we have created a Family Photo Book this way and the result blows me away every single time. It is so much fun to make, there is no mess with glue, scissors, sticky tape and mistakes that can’t be fixed (don’t you hate that?), you can just shuffle, edit, chop and change until your Snapfish Photo Book is perfect. Place your order online and just a few days later your ‘handy work’ gets delivered to your door step. Our kids love flicking through our Photo Books and the grandparents really appreciate them, they make a perfect personal keepsake gift that will be enjoyed for a long time to come. Bonus: You can always order extra copies (of the Photo Book but also individual prints) afterwards.

Now is the perfect time for you to look back at the year that has been and create a unique Snapfish Photo Book for your family with these special Snapfish Australia offers:

With a new year just around the corner health is always a much talked about topic, most people are keen to live a healthier life and somehow the first of January is a magical turning point for many. Of course a healthy diet and plenty of exercise are a must but even something as small and easy as a great probiotic can make a difference.

Life Space PregnancyIf you are expecting a new bundle of joy your choice of probiotic can have a huge impact on not only your own but also your babies health, take the exciting new range of Life Space Probiotics. Life Space BabyLife Space Probiotics are available as a convenient capsule for expecting (and breastfeeding) mothers but also in powder form for babies (0-24 months) and children. Providing your little ones with their daily dose of probiotics is super easy, just add 1 gram (dosage spoon included) to their food or liquids, mums nipple, directly into their cheek or on their gums before feeding or of course straight from the spoon.

NUK

It has been a bit of a wait but we’ve finally spotted a tooth! Even though she can’t do much biting yet baby Sybil happily chews and chomps on any food we put in front of her. From purees to mash and now soft lumps, it won’t be long until she can join in with the big kids at the dinner table. Dinner time is usually rather busy for our big family so I save myself some time by preparing the baby meals once a week and store them in the freezer:

Fruit and vegies in baby sized portions

Fruit and vegies in baby sized portions

Five months ago this was the first batch of baby food I made and since then the handy Annabel Karmel by NUK range has had quite the workout at our house. Child nutrition expert Annabel Karmel is known all around the world for her best-selling children’s cookbooks  and now she has teamed up with the clever team at NUK Australia to create an innovative range of BPA free baby equipment perfect for modern Aussie families.

NUk Freezer TrayWhen I prepare our baby food I usually fill up the Freezer Tray With Lid first. This food cube tray has enough room for nine 30ml portions, a great size for little ones just starting on solids. As your baby grows and starts eating bigger meals you can put together a mixed meal, eg. one cube of potato, one cube of carrot and one cube of fruit for dessert. The lid clips on tight and creates a flat surface, making it easy to stack in the freezer.

NUK CubesAt dinner time I just pop out one or more of the cubes (they come out easily) and warm it up ready to be eaten. The freezer tray is dishwasher safe so cleaning up is hassle free. For going out I use one of the six Stackable Cubes, each pack contains 2x 50ml, 2x 73ml and 2x 100ml containers. These colourful cubes are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe, so when you are visiting friends of family you can just quickly warm your baby’s meal without needing a separate bowl (all you need is a spoon).

NUK Food Masher and BowlI generally make larger batches with my Beaba Babycook but even with a freezer full of baby meals there are times when you just want to make a fast, single meal or snack. The Food Masher and Bowl set is easy to use, fool proof (easy for dads, grandparents and babysitters) and you can use it anywhere and anytime. I often end up grabbing this to quickly mash up a serve of fresh fruit or to make our own ‘grown up’ meal baby friendly.

NUK Ice Lolly MouldsThe last product in the range is the Mini Ice Lolly Set, it looks absolutely adorable and it’s perfect for warm summer days (we have plenty of those here in Australia). I have only just started using this as baby has to be a little bit bigger (ca. 9 months+) to be able to hold the ice lollies. Fill the moulds with your child’s favouirte fresh fruit or yoghurt, pop in the freezer, and the next day you have healthy miniature ice blocks that are super tasty and great for sore gums.

Whimsy Child

Many of you have come to know Whimsy Child as the go-to store for hip and quirky kids fashion but that’s about to change. A little while ago owner Melissa decided to shake things up a little and shift her focus to unique gifts, educational toys and other cool stuff, which means it’s a double win for you. On the one hand you now have a new address for super hip kids products and fabulous brands that you won’t find at your local shopping centre, at the same time you can score some awesome (and I mean AWESOME) bargains in the fashion clearance.

These clever Sound Cubes are one of the latest arrivals in the toy section, I think they look fabulous:

Micki Sound Cubes

Micki Sound Cubes

Sound CubesIt’s a puzzle, it’s a musical toy, it’s a matching game, these fabulous Sound Cubes by Swedish toy manufacturer Micki are triple the fun. The aim of the game is to put the two cubes together and ‘match’ both halves of the vehicles. When kids put the correct pictures together they will hear the sound of that particular vehicle, how cool is that? Micki Sound Cubes will help young children with motor skills, teach them about different vehicles and sounds and of course show cause and effect.

Micki Sound Cubes ($27.50) are suitable for ages 2+ and operate on 3 AA batteries (demonstration batteries included).

Speckled House

When people hear we have four kids they usually say the same two things: ‘Your house must be so noisy!’ and ‘I bet they make lots of mess’. Yes, the kids do make lots of noise, there are always little people chatting, laughing, singing, playing, dancing and of course sometimes crying or arguing. But when it comes to mess you’ll be surprised, I love an organised house and I’ve trained them well, they really are quite good at keeping things tidy.

Elephant Storage HamperI think our smartest move was to create a playroom, even if it meant I dom’t currently have an office to work in. Now the kids can keep all their toys, dolls, craft and books in one room as opposed to spread out over all the bedrooms. Little visitors know exactly where to go to play and the kids bedrooms are usually mess free, so there is no distraction at bedtime and it makes it easy for me to scoot in with the vacuum.

Star Storage HamperIn the playroom we use a few handy storage solutions to keep everything neat, clear and easy to find, our latest storage addition is a lovely storage hamper by Australian designer label Speckled House. Made from strong and sturdy canvas and fitted with easy carry handles (large tubs only) the stylish Speckled House Storage Hampers are perfect for neatly storing all those loose toys in bedrooms, playrooms and even your living room.

Our playroom cupboard is filled with toys for the three older kids and I keep all the baby toys together in our Mushroom Canvas Storage Hamper ($59.95). I can easily carry the hamper from room to room to keep baby Sybil happy while I do my chores, very handy! Measuring a generous 45cm high and 50cm diameter you can fit lots in and the hampers keep their shape really well.

Speckled House Mushroom Hamper

There are currently seven different Storage Hampers to choose from in two different sizes (small and square $44.95/large and round $59.95) and with different designs to suit boys, girls and gender neutral rooms. I love how these hip storage solutions become part of your room decor and add a warm, cosy touch (especially compared to cold plastics).
