Out'n'About

Here at Hip little one we really enjoy sharing hip finds and we especially love it when we are (one of) the first to trial an exciting new product. A few weeks ago the award winning Out’n’About prams arrived in Australia and I was lucky enough to take one for a test drive.

Out'n'About Nipper SingleThe Out’n’About brand may be new to Australia but back in its home country the U.K. it is one of the big boys, well known for its high quality products. With a whole range of awards and nominations behind its name Out’n’About has well earnt its place in the pram market and now it is time of Australian parents to put it to the test. The current Out’n’About range offers a 3-wheel single, double and sports model, here’s our miss 2 enjoying a ride in the Nipper 360 Single:

The first words that came to mind when I started pushing the Out’n’About Nipper 360 (RRP $549) were solid, reliable and active. While the pram feels really sturdy and robust it only weighs 9.8kg so it surprisingly light weight. In fact, it is the lightest full-sized 3-wheeler (with 12-inch wheels) in Australia! The strong pneumatic tyres are perfect for our hilly Adelaide suburb and keep the little passenger comfortable even when driving off-road.

suspensionBut it’s not just a great pram for bumpy tracks, its smooth driving and quick turning make it perfect for city life too. Thanks to the rear suspension your child won’t feel every kerbside and the slim size (61.5 cm wheelbase) makes manoeuvring through narrow aisles a breeze. Even though this is a full size pram (not a flimsy stroller) it folds down to a compact package that will easily fit in small cars. You can fold it ‘standing up’, so you don’t have to fold it all the way to the ground which is gentler on your back.

The Nipper 360 is suitable from newborn up to 22kg which is extremely generous (many other prams have a 15kg weight limit), this makes it a very good investment for families as the Nipper 360 can be enjoyed for years. The seat can lie flat to suit newborns and there are three different heights for the five-point harness so you always have the right (safe) fit for your child.

The ‘active’ feel of the pram lines up with the sporty look of the Nipper 360. This look may not be to everyone’s taste but it really suits this style of pram. Practical wipe clean fabrics, plenty of storage both under and at the back of the seat (easy access!), a sun canopy and one-touch brake, the Nipper 360 is packed with great features that will make your trip with baby as simple and enjoyable as possible.

If you are like me and prefer using a bassinet for newborn babies you’ll be pleased to know that there is an Out’n’About Carrycot ($199) available too. The carrycot can be used until your baby is approx. 6 months old/9 kg. Compared to other bassinets this design is quite long and slim in shape to avoid baby rolling over at every corner. Our 8 week old fits very comfortably and has plenty of growing space left.

CarrycotThe Nipper Carrycot comes with a removable quilted liner that completely covers the inside of the bassinet and folds over the edges. This is a fabulous design as your baby doesn’t have to sleep against the cold pram canvas and both liner and mattress cover can be machine washed. If your baby spills quite often like our daughter this is really handy, no more scrubbing!

Conclusion:
My over all opinion on the Out’n’About Nipper 360 is that is a very durable, high quality pram that is perfect for active Australian families. From city strolls to tough bush walks, a smooth ride is guaranteed. If you are looking for a pram to take off-road but you don’t want the heavy weight this is the perfect pram for you.

Priced at $549 the Nipper 360 is very affordable and you get great value for money. Out’n’About really stands behind their product and backs it up with a fantastic 2-year warranty, something you won’t get with most other prams.
