Moi

You know I love spotting hip brands that stand out from the crowd so I was very excited to discover the new Mói range at Skip to my Lou. Mói is a very funky Scandinavian label creating children’s clothing that doesn’t just look super cool but is created in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner too, a double win.

Mói Play Dress ($42, size 0-6)

Mói Baggy PantsMói caters for stylish boys and girls from newborn up to six years old with a great collection of tops, leggings, dresses and rompers. The neutral grey and black colours are a welcome change to the bright colours you see everywhere else and the perfect example of ‘less is more’. Where bright colours blind your eyes the beautiful calm colours of Mói clothing catch your eye with their simplicity and leave the real spotlight to the child that is wearing it.

Mói Bird T-ShirtOf course you can always mix and match Mói with other items from your wardrobe to create your very own urban mix, it’s super hip to be different than the rest. Just in case you are wondering where the quirky name Mói comes from: Mói was the name of an Icelandic bird who used to visit the Mói designer’s family often and became the family ‘pet’. Little did he know he’d be pictured on a tee years later!

As much as I absolutely adore my gorgeous bunch of kids I will be the first to admit that it gets very busy with three little ones. Luckily I don’t get stressed too easily and have learnt to choose my battles, it is more important to me that we are all happy and enjoying life together than that the washing basket is always empty. In saying that, every now and then I do need a quiet minute to myself and my favourite treat is a (rare) visit to the hairdresser. These appointments could easily make a huge dent in our one-income family budget but luckily for me there is Groupon.

Groupon

If you haven’t heard of Groupon yet you are really missing out. This group buying website is a fantastic tool for Australian mums to get a little spoilt every now and then and save money at the same time. Every day Groupon releases a bunch of awesome deals, from products to services to experiences, it is always a surprise. Because so many people purchase the Groupon deals they are able to secure much better prices than if you were to buy as an individual, the power is in the numbers.

Because you provide your postcode when signing up you always receive offers that are local, a great way to discover new businesses in your area. When I spot an awesome Groupon deal for a hair makeover or a relaxing massage I grab the voucher (often saving as much as 75%) and make a note for myself when to book the appointment for (depending on the conditions of the voucher). I usually book for 3 or 6 months in advance, this means I can look forward to it for a while and get the kids organised. Sometimes I have already forgotten all about it and then it is such a lovely surprise to have a special treat saved up. I love it!

(By the way, of course Groupon does not only have fantastic offers for mums. Last year I used the Dutch Groupon website to book my husband a special Ferrari experience on the old Formula 1 racetrack in Belgium, to be used during our holiday. He absolutely loved it and because I was familiar with Groupon I knew I could count on great service. If you want to organise something special for your husband keep an eye on the Groupon emails, you’ll no doubt find something there that he will enjoy and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.)
