If you are keen to raise your children a little greener and run your household a little more eco friendly you can’t go past Sustainababy. Sustainababy is known as Australia’s one-stop eco-parenting shop but it really is much more than just a store. Meet Laura, Sustainababy owner and mum-of-two who gives the best, professional eco advice, not only in the way of great products in her store but also in the shape of awesome tips and ideas on her own blog.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Laura twice and she is an absolute delight to deal with. She recently welcomed the beautiful Christopher into her family, isaren’t they a gorgeous family? Find out a little more about Laura and Sustainababy in today’s Sunday Coffee.
What does your ideal Sunday look like?
A lazy start to the day with a sleep in followed by our weekly cooked breakfast tradition where I whip up something extra special in the kitchen. Sundays are generally quiet in our household where we spend time together as a family or venture out and about with friends.
Why did you start Sustainababy?
The absence of quality information and easily accessible products to help parents reduce their family’s environmental footprint inspired me while pregnant in 2009 to create a one stop eco-parenting resource where parents could access credible environmental information, learn simple ways to live more sustainably and shop with peace of mind.
What do you look for when selecting new products for the Sustainababy store?
Eco-friendly credentials, quality, stylish and not too common in the marketplace. I also have a preference for locally-made products to support Aussie businesses. These goods are extra sustainable as they have travelled the least distance from manufacture to retail.
What is your favourite Sustainababy product?
This is such a difficult question as it varies on the age of the lucky recipient! I totally love Uimi products though and am currently using the Emily Merino Bassinet Blanket in Denim for my newborn son Christopher and the Milly Merino Cot Blanket in Apple/Candy for my two and a half year old son Matthew. These blankets are soft, warm, beautiful in design and are Australian made!
What part of running Sustainababy do you like most?
Writing informative eco parenting articles for our Sustainababy Blog and sharing daily eco tips on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Sustainababy). I find that so many parents would like to live more sustainably but don’t know where to start. I gain a huge amount of satisfaction by helping them make simple changes to their lifestyle which can have a huge impact on reducing their environmental footprint.
