Justin and the Knights of Valour

With only one day left of term I am making an effort to get our playroom, puzzles, games, craft supplies and movie cupboard school holiday ready, with four kids at home I need plenty of options to keep us all happy, entertained and sane. Released only last week this is our latest addition to the DVD shelf: Justin and the Knights of Valour.

Justin and the Knights of Valour tells the story of Justin, a quiet young boy who lives in a kingdom ruled by bureaucrats and with laws for everything big or small. Inspired by his deceased grandfather Justin dreams of becoming a knight just like his heroic grandfather was but there are a few slight problems. The first issue is that knights have been ousted by the queen, the second hurdle is his father Reginald who wants Justin to become a lawyer just like himself.

Justin the Knight

Justin is struggling to decide, on the one hand he really wants to become a knight, fight for justice and win the heart of his dream girl Lara, on the other hand he doesn’t want to disappoint his father. His grandmother encourages him to follow his heart so he sets off on a journey to find his grandfather’s missing sword. With the help of his new found friends Talia and Melquiades he makes it to a far away castle where three monks train, teach and test him to become a real Knight of Valour.

Justin and Talia

While he is away a disgruntled former knight called Sir Heraclio, accompanied by a team of helpers, returns to take over the kingdom. Will Justin be ready to fight for what is right? He may not feel or look like a proper knight just yet but that won’t stop him from trying. It’s a time  of learning for many, Justin’s father will come to accept his son’s big wish and Justin realises that it is not Lara who has his noble heart after all.

Justin and the Knights of Valour is available on Blu-ray (RRP $34.99), DVD (RRP $29.99) and as a digital download.

They are questions most parents, particularly those with boys, will be asked sooner or later: How big is a dinosaur? Can we go see a dinosaur one day? Normally the answer would be that it is hard to explain as you never seen a dinosaur before and sadly it is not possible to go see one either resulting in disappointed little faces. Well I’ve got news that will turn that frown upside down, check out Dinosaur Adventures:

Dinosaur Adventures Melbourne

After the enormous success of Dinosaur Adventures at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney it is now time for Melbourne dinosaur fans to get up close and personal with these intriguing creatures from the past. Get ready for an experience like no other at this mind blowing exhibition with the most amazing animatronics.

It wouldn’t be school holidays if we didn’t have a couple of cold and rainy days, and boy have we seen some rain this weekend. As playing outside was not an option we decided to cosy up inside, get the fireplace working and enjoy some fun craft activities. Usually it is me doing the craft with the kids but this time we got daddy involved to help us build the Fun Dough Castle by Junior Tradesman.

We had lots of fun building the Fun Dough Castle

We had lots of fun building the Fun Dough Castle

With 3 sisters our son (4 years old) often has to settle for pink and girly so he was pretty chuffed with this (what he thinks is a) boys themed playdough set. The Fun Dough Castle kit ($29.95) contains a very generous 1.3kg of grey dough, a base plate, 2 windows and gate, spatula and the special ‘brick making tool’, it’s all kids need to create their very own castle.

Fun Dough CastleBy pushing playdough through the special tool you can make long bricks which you then cut to size with the spatula, such a great way to encourage building and construction skills in young children. On the back of the box you’ll find several examples of different castles you can build but of course the options are endless. When your castle is ready just get out your knights and horses and the fun can begin.

untitledThe building components and playdough can be used again and again so kids have will hours of fun with one box, a great gift idea. There are 4 different Junior Tradesman kits to choose from: Fun Dough House, Fun Dough Castle, First House and First House and Garage. The gorgeous Anastasia (daughter of Coccinella owner Renata) and her friend tried their hands at the Fun Dough House, I think it looks great!

Find them all in store at Coccinella, delivery is $8.95 Australia wide.
