Now that December is finally upon us everyone is getting excited about warm family get-togethers, special trips and much anticipated holidays, I can’t wait! While most of us looks forward to the fun, friends and festivities that await at our destination, the thought of travelling there is a lot less inviting. If you are planning a plane trip with young children you are going to love this sanity-saver:
Created by two clever mothers and seasoned travellers the Fly-Tot (RRP $120) is an absolute travel must-have for young families, If only I had discovered it before our last European adventure, it would have been such a great help!
The Fly-Tot concept is simple but genius: First place your Fly-Tot cushion in front of your child’s plane seat, then blow it up with the included foot pump to instantly create a comfortable lounge seat for your little jet-setter. It’s almost like turning your regular Economy seat into First Class luxury! Thanks to all this added space little ones can rest their legs and even curl up for a nap without limbs continuously sliding off the seat, how clever is that?
Fly-Tot has been thoroughly tested to fit nice and snug in between plane seats and even if you are in a Super Economy seat (very little space!) you can use the Fly-Tot upside down. If you are travelling with two children you can double the Fly-Tot comfort by using two cushions next to each other to create ‘beds’, it’s a bit like camping on a plane. When not in use your Fly-Tot cushion deflates to a compact package and a handy carry-strap for easy transport is included.
As you may know we travel to Europe every second year to visit my family so I know all about exhausting long-haul flights, tired children and uncomfortable sleeping positions. Fly-Tot is such an easy way to make the journey more enjoyable, after all happy, well-rested children equal happy parents!

Over the past five months we have introduced you to a range of awesome Globber scooters and we hope you enjoyed riding along with our family. From cool kids to young-at-heart parents, there is a perfect set of wheels for everyone! But what about adventurous tots, I hear you think? Don’t worry, we have a fabulous scooter lined up for little miss Harriet too:
Designed for children aged 1 to 6 the super-versatile Globber MyFREE 5-in-1 is absolutely ideal for this tricky childhood stage where kids develop new skills in the blink of an eye. From needing all the mama-help they can get, to trying by themselves and eventually scooting off independently and with great confidence, this clever convertible design will grow with your child all the way.
Featuring three sturdy wheels and made from high quality, durable materials the Globber MyFREE 5-in-1 (RRP $200, pink, green or dark blue) is built to be safe, strong and survive the everyday rough and tumble of active youngsters. As the name suggests this amazing scooter can be used in five different ways, offering great value for money and making it an ideal investment for young families.
At Globber they understand that little legs get tired quickly so the comfortable seat offers an enjoyable ride for small travellers up to 20kg. Using the parent handle mum or dad can push and guide little ones in the right direction while kids can hold onto their very own handlebar and rest their feet on the (removable) footrests. The low foot board allows them to feel safe and helps them easily regain their balance when they get a tad wobbly or take the corners a bit too sharp.
As your child’s confidence and steering skills grow the parent handle effortlessly comes off to form a funky ride-on. Later when your little thrill seeker is ready to ditch the seat and scoot around while standing up the seat can easily be removed and the parent handle converts into a handlebar. In this mode the MyFREE 5-in-1 is suitable for children up to 50kg and the handlebar can be adjusted to three different height levels to allow for riders of different heights.
A child’s mood is like the weather and changes all the time so whether your child wants to ride by his or herself or prefers to sit and enjoy being pushed, the MyFREE 5-in-1 adjusts to your family’s needs in just a flash.
With the silly (or should I say stressful) season upon us many mums are starting to feel the pressure: The fanciest Christmas meal, the prettiest tree and neatest home, the most gorgeous outfits and perfectly behaved children, we are trying so hard to get it all right! Before the busyness of Christmas kicks off make sure to catch up with your favourite mama-friends and let your hair down with one of the funniest comedies of the year:
If you have ever wondered what happens when a group of ‘perfect’ mums get together, ditch the rules and run wild here’s your chance, meet Bad Moms.
Balancing a good career, dealing with a failing marriage, maintaining a beautiful home, being the devoted school-mum and raising perfect children, it’s hard work and good mother Amy (Mila Kunis) is tired. About to lose her marbles Amy does what many of us (secretly) dream of every now and then: accompanied by two like-minded mothers (Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell) she puts aside the endless lists of responsibilities, turns her back on proper mum-behaviour and enjoys a well-deserved time-out.
Amy rather enjoys her newly found laid-back attitude and freedom but not everyone agrees… At first Amy’s actions and opinions cause tension between all the ‘picture-perfect’ mothers in the school community, but in the end she makes people see that many mothers are indeed stressed, overworked and need time off from time to time. Maybe something good comes from being a ‘bad mom’ after all.
Mum-to-mum warning: Having been created by the makers of The Hangover viewers of Bad Moms (M-rated) are in for a real good laugh, you may want to cross your legs extra tight or bring a spare pair of pants!
‘Bad Moms’ is now ready for digital download and available on Blu-ray (RRP $44.95) and DVD (RRP $39.95) at major retailers across Australia.

If you are a regular Hip Little One reader you may remember the fabulous Toot-Toot Drivers toys I wrote about back in July. Fast forward four months and these clever little cars are still being driven around the house, in fact they are such a hit we have expanded our fleet since then with several other fun vehicles.
Toy specialist VTech has also added to their Toot-Toot family with two exciting new ranges that toddlers and pre-schoolers will love, just in time for the gift-giving season:
Like all Toot-Toot designs the adorable Toot-Toot Animals (RRP $11.95, ages 1-5) are created with little people in mind: They have bright, attractive colours and lights, play fun sounds and songs, can ride around on wheels and their compact shape makes them easy to hold for small hands. I think they are a perfect size and price for your child’s Christmas stocking. Bonus: Every animal teaches the first letter of its name, what a cute introduction to the alphabet.
Of course the colourful animals are great fun on their own, but the special Toot-Toot Animals Playsets really bring them to life. Fitted with VTech’s unique SmartPoint™ technology each of your Toot-Toot animals is recognised as it passes the clever SmartPoint locations, activating a range of sounds, songs, melodies and phrases.
The result is a fantastic interactive play scene that allows young children to learn whilst having fun and it will keep them entertained for hours. By connecting the track pieces you can even link the different Playsets together and grow your animal world. From a friendly Farm to an adventurous Safari Park or playful Tree House, these animals are never short of new things to do and discover.
If your little one can’t get enough of Toot-Toot play you can now continue the fun at bath time with the brand new Toot-Toot Splash (RRP $16.95, ages 1-5) arrivals. These cool sea animals and water vehicles are guaranteed to make the daily wash the highlight of your child’s day with catchy songs, sounds, phrases and lights. Being waterproof all Toot-Toot Splash toys can safely be enjoyed both in and out of the tub, how awesome is that?
VTech toys are available at major department stores and independent toy retailers across Australia.
It’s that time of the year again and calendars are quickly filling up with long overdue catch-ups, large family feasts and relaxing New Year’s Eve parties with friends. If you are looking for a way to de-stress in December and add plenty of giggles to your Christmas gatherings you’ll love this awesome find from Funtastic:
Hailed on social media as the perfect party game for the silly season Mouthguard Challenge (RRP $10) is flying off the shelves, if you want to get in on the fun you better be quick!
Mouthguard Challenge proves that the simple things in life are often the most enjoyable. The game requires no talent, little effort and everyone can play as long as you don’t mind making a fool of yourself! Pop in your mouthguard and draw a task card to accept your challenge: From singing a song to saying a sentence and from describing a word to completing a taste test, everyone will be roaring with laughter in no-time.
With 51 different task cards there is plenty of mouthguard fun to be had and you can always create your own dares too, the options are endless. At the end of the game the player with the most points will be crowned the Mouthguard Expert, will it be you?
There are loads of hilarious videos online of people who took on a mouthguard challenge of their own, this being one of my absolute favourites:
The game comes with four reusable mouthguards, simply wash after use so they are clean and ready for your next round. Pleasantly priced at just ten bucks Mouthguard Challenge is kind on the tight Christmas budget and an ideal stocking filler or Kris Kringle gift.
While I admit that breakfast time with five small kids is rather rushed, it’s often around dinnertime that things get a little ‘heated’ at our house. After a long day this mama is pretty tired, I generally have a grumpy, hungry baby hanging off my leg and a table to clear and set, no wonder I struggle to keep an eye on all the pots and pans at the same time! Thankfully Décor is coming to the rescue of busy parents by taking the hassle out of your next rice dish with this clever unit:
Don’t worry about caked on pans and endless stirring, with the Décor Microsoft® Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer (RRP $13.99, 2.75L) your favourite rice will be cooked to perfection every single time.
Using the Décor Rice Cooker is so easy even grandparents, babysitters and sleep deprived parents can do it: Simply use the included measuring cup to determine the right amount of raw rice and boiling water and pop the cooker in your microwave. Seventeen minutes of cooking and five minutes of resting later your rice is ready to be served, that’s just enough time to whip up a nice sauce, fry your chicken and set the table.
With a generous 2.75 litre capacity the Décor Rice Cooker is big enough to make up to four cups of cooked rice, perfect for a small family or side dish. It comes complete with steam release vent lid, transparent measuring cup and white rice paddle for stirring and serving. And there are plenty of other handy Décor features too: it has cold touch handles, is BPA-free, dishwasher safe, freezer safe and of course Australian made.
While you can of course use your Rice Cooker to prepare ‘just’ rice, it is also great for cooking all-in-one meals. Yay for less dirty dishes afterwards! Add tasty vegetables, herbs, spices and/or garlic to your liking to create an entire meal in one single container, easy peasy. If you happen to have leftovers you can conveniently seal and store the closed Rice Cooker in the fridge and reheat it in the microwave later on.
Tuesday’s Rice Cooker dinner of chicken, cucumber and Mexican inspired rice was a big hit with the kids. With added tomato, kidney beans, coriander and a mix of spices it was a very versatile dish that covered all the food groups, and hardly any washing up to do!
