I find it hard to believe that in just over a week we’ll be in The Netherlands, hopefully enjoying lovely summer weather. One of the things my husband remembers clearly about our past visits to Holland is the bikes, they are everywhere and everyone owns one. Kids learn to ride their bikes from an early age, they ride bikes all day and most of them travel by bike to school (even many adults ride their bikes to work). The twins are very interested in bikes too and I think that is why they loved watched the new Dora the Explorer DVD, Dora The Explorer: First Bike.

In Dora the Explorer: First Bike Boots rides his first bike and of course his best friend Dora is there to help him all the way, isn’t that what friends are for? Sometimes all you need is some encouragement from your friends to get you started whether is riding a big bike or jumping with the skippy rope. As always this Dora the Explorer DVD is filled with learning moments like counting and Spanish words.

And there is more, Dora and her friends also go on a holiday which is (obviously) a hot topic in our household at the moment. In ‘Vacaciones’ kids learn about planning ahead and ticking off everything they need to bring from their list. What do you need to pack for a summer holiday and what do you take on a skiing trip? In ‘Bouncy Boots’ there is a little mix up at the shoe shop and you have to help Boots get his own boots back.

All kids love a bit of magic but in ‘The Big Red Chicken’s Magic Wand’ they’ll find out that magic doesn’t always work out the way you want. The Big Red Chicken turn Boots into a chicken which is fun at first but then the Magic Wand breaks and Boots can’t be turned back. Time to find the Wand Shop and get it fixed. My oldest two absolutely loved this episode with all its rhyming jokes.

Dora the Explorer: First Bike ($19.95, by Paramount) is available from major retailers Australia wide.

As you have probably noticed it is nearly the end of June which is the green light for stocktake sales, a perfect time for you to pick up some bargains. You know I love a good sale so I am happily browsing all these sale sections and bargain racks. At Sustainababy you are double lucky as they have combined the June Stocktake Sale with their 2nd Birthday Sale, lots of reductions storewide with huge savings up to 80%!

Hip little one readers can enjoy an additional 10% off storewide for 3 days only with the code ‘HIPLITTLEONE’. Offer ends June 28, bulk nappy packs excluded.

One of the many great stocktake buys is the Willy Wagtail Harry Hoodie (a personal favourite of mine), made from super soft 100% Australian Merino wool. Both of my twins own one of these in different colours (blue, red) and they wear them all the time, even after many, many washes they still look amazing. They are lightweight which makes them very comfortable and easy to move around in. Already reduced by 20% you can get an extra 10% off with the code ‘HIPLITTLEONE’.

There are also some great savings to be had on the Purebaby range, like this 100% certified organic cotton Purebaby Boys PJ Set (nearly 30% off). Purebaby is an Australian kids fashion label that caters for little ones from newborn up to 2 years old. After that kids can be promoted to the stylish Purekids (up to size 6) range where you can pick up some beautiful pieces at reduced prices too.

I myself am very tempted by some of the Green Bean designs. I purchased some of these wonderful bamboo garments at Sustainababy before and they are absolutely brilliant. At the moment this Bamboo Hoodie only costs $24.90 (was $44.95), and with the special discount code just $22.41. Fantastic value and a perfect choice for your child’s sensitive skin. A boys style is available too.

Last week I wrote about how more and more families are trying to live a little greener and it is important that kids learn the value of this from a young age. From not wasting water to throwing rubbish in the bin and from playing with recycled boxes and paper to separating the waste, there are lots of ways to teach kids about being green. Australian company Leaf. Paper for Life has thought of a great way to encourage kids to go outside and explore all that nature has to offer.

What child wouldn’t love to keep A Scrapbook just like Dirtgirl’s? Go on an adventure in your own backyard, the local park or maybe even on a holiday in the Australian outback. There is so much cool stuff to be found, you just have to start looking and you’ll be surprised at all there is to discover. You can enjoy your adventures over and over again if you record your findings in this cool Dirtgirl Scrapbook by Leaf Journals.

As you’d expect from a real nature lover like Dirtgirl this fabulous scrapbook is printed on 100% recycled paper, right here in Australia. With 64 blank pages to write on, decorate, colour in, stick on or paint on there is plenty of scrapbooking fun to be had. There are some fantastic scraps and craft papers included to get tou started but of course you can find heaps of good scrapbooking materials outside too and they cost you nothing, have you ever noticed how every leaf is different?

Maybe you want to use your scrapbook to study your garden or keep a diary of your next camping holiday, maybe it can be a notebook for your very own adventure club, you can use it for all kinds of things and you’ll find more great ideas in the scrapbook. A Scrapbook Just Like Dirtgirl’s ($39.95) is a great fun and educational gift idea that kids will love looking at again and again. Go outside and get grubby!

Sunday Coffee with Sticky Biz

Home  Comments Off on Sunday Coffee with Sticky Biz
Jun 242012

With the kids due to start kindy in August I have started labeling some of their belongings with their own name labels from Sticky Biz. There are lots of designs to choose from and the twins loved picking their favourite colours and symbols. Sticky Biz clearly knows exactly what kids like (and what is important to mums too), let me introduce you to the faces behind Sticky Biz.

This great Australian business is based right here in Adelaide and I even had the pleasure of meeting owners Kate and Andrew once. Here is your chance to ‘meet’ the Sticky Biz team in this week’s Sunday Coffee.

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
Our perfect Sunday is making the most of our time with the kids. In summer our favourite thing to do is to get out to enjoy the sunshine, a nice cup of coffee down at Henley Square and playing with the kids on the beach! In Winter we still get out to the playground and into the fresh air as much as possible and love watching the kids running around full of energy.

Why did you start Sticky Biz?
The motivation behind Sticky Biz was part of a plan of finding a better balance between work and life. When our daughter was born we discovered after my husband returned to work that he would be lucky to see her for half an hour a day and we wanted this to change. He has been a printer for over 20 years and he pretty much knows the ins and outs of the industry and we decided we could use that to our own advantage. So we came up with Sticky Biz! Which we completely own and operate ourselves and we can spend all the time we need to with our kiddies with the flexible working hours doing something we absolutely love.

What do you love most about running Sticky Biz?
We love to hear back from our customers and hear that their kids love our products. We love receiving photo’s of bedrooms with our wall art knowing our designs are a special part of a child’s room!

What is your favourite Sticky Biz design from the current range?
I absolutely love our Garden Wall Art, it is my favourite design, especially the Chirpie Birds! They still make me smile when I see them on my daughters wall! The material our wall art is printed on gives me so much confidence that our customers will love it too and its becoming so popular as word is getting out about it. It can be removed and repositioned which means it can move with the kiddies out of the Nursery into their next “big girl” or “big boy” room!

What can we expect of Sticky Biz in the future?
We are hard at work, working on new designs…, just this month we are launching a new range of designs: robots, lady birds, unicorn and another old fashion Wild West Train design! We hope that everyone loves them as much as we loved coming up with them.
