I like him so I ‘put a ring on it’

Mens Rings Online

In line with Australian tradition both my husband and I wear our wedding ring on our left ring finger, however in my home country The Netherlands most couples wear their wedding rings on the right hand side. Still a Dutch girl at heart I started wearing a plain silver band on my right hand to show that I am a proud wife. I know it sounds silly but every now and then I would look at my wonderful hubby and his bare right ring finger and feel he looked a little too ‘single’ for my liking. With his birthday last week and our wedding anniversary coming up I had the perfect excuse to ‘put a ring on it’ and jumped online to browse Mens Rings Online.

Mens Rings Online range

Mens Rings Online is an Australian online boutique that sells, you guessed it, mens rings in all shapes, metals and sizes. From white gold to yellow gold, from titanium to platinum, from classic to modern, from plain and simple to eye catching and patterned, there is a perfect style for everyone and every budget. Bonus: All Mens Rings Online purchases come beautifully packaged in a jewellery box and fabric gift bag, ready to be gifted to the lucky man in your life..

Titanium RingThe website is extremely easy to navigate and by ticking a few boxes you will be presented with a selection of rings that suits your wishes perfectly. In the end I decided on this classic, plain titanium wedding band, it’s simple, timeless and priced at $179 it is affordable too. Titanium is extremely strong (perfect for tradies) and hypo-allergenic so it will not irritate his sensitive skin. For a bit of help deciding on the right metal refer to the useful Metal Comparison Chart.

Often jewellery is considered more of a female gift and (aside from his wedding ring) hubby is not exactly one to wear anything shiny so I could only hope he would appreciate the lovely thought behind this carefully selected birthday present. I should not have worried, he absolutely loved it and immediately put it on with a big smile on his face. I know this will be one of those gifts that holds a special place in his (and my) heart forever because of our unique lovely story behind it.

As you know I am always honest here and there is no pretending that I am the perfect wife. I did struggle choosing the right ring size and unfortunately I was half a size off, at least I was close! Luckily the helpful team at Mens Rings Online knows that buying jewellery (online) can be tricky so they included a handy ringsizer with my order. I properly measured hubby’s ring finger and returned my purchase for an exchange, no hassle at all. The new ring arrived in no time and this time the size was spot on, happy faces all around.

Wedding Day

As we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary last week I took a moment to look back at our big day. I had only just moved to Australia and we were busy setting up house (as well as going through an expensive visa application) so we were a bit strapped for cash and planned our wedding on a tight budget. I wore a bargain USD $9 wedding dress, did my own makeup and a girlfriend did my hair, mother-in-law made the cake, an uncle performed the ceremony and that’s just the start. Some might find this a punishment but I actually loved the challenge, you all know how much I love hunting for the best buys!

With lovely Summer weather on the (far) horizon it won’t be long before wedding season kicks off. If you’re tying the knot this year it’s time to get your invitations ordered and in the mail and no, they don’t have to break the bank:

Pre-cut InvitesThe easiest way save on your invites is by making them yourself, it’s not as tricky as it sounds and the internet is full of wonderful pages to get inspiration from. You can grab your invitation paper or pre-cut cards, ribbons, invitation envelopes, seals and other decorations like lace, tape and studs from specialist stores like Paper Warehouse which will save you big bucks compared to ordinary stationery or craft shops.

Paper Warehouse stocks many of the big names in decorative paper e.g. Cristina Re, Paper Craft and Paper Chic at bottom prices so you get the designer look you are after without the designer price tag. Weddings are expensive enough as it is and by going the DIY route you can save some much needed extra cash to spend on other parts of your wedding.

DIY RibbonWe did a lot of our wedding preparations ourselves and while it (obviously) takes a bit more time than having someone else do it for you it is very rewarding and it allows you create something that is 100% you and suits your wedding perfectly. If you get some of your family and girlfriends together to help out it will cut down the workload and it is a great bonding experience, I have fond memories of our evenings spent wrapping wedding favours and writing envelopes.

ElmiraIf you have a very large wedding party, are running out of time or are simply not a crafty person and prefer to let the experts do the hard work you can find an affordable range of pre-made wedding invitations at Invitation House. There are some really lovely styles to choose from: gold or silver, earthy tones or black and white, beautiful elegant wedding invitations or pretty beach wedding invitations, it’s up to you! Prices depend on the options and extras you choose, DIY packages are available for those wanting to save even more.

Happy wedding planning!

Dressing my bump

As you all know by now I am currently expecting our 4th child, in fact I am nearly half way already! There is no hiding that growing bump anymore and I am proudly showing it off in gorgeous maternity clothes, I am determined to make the most of the upcoming months. We recently received a wedding invitation and the dress code is formal so now I am on the hunt for beautiful maternity dresses that fit the bill.

I have been browsing online stores ever since the invitation arrived and one of the dresses that caught my eye is this Grecian Drape Maxi Dress ($76.30) by Asos. Such a feminine style and I love the tie that does up at the back. This dress is available in the colours Mauvewood (pictured) and Moonrock and I think they are both stunning. Unlike some dresses from other brands this design is very well priced, after all I will probably only get to wear it once.

I am still indecisive about the length I am looking for, I love the long look but it is a December wedding so maybe a shorter style will be cooler. If I do end up going for something shorter I will probably be looking at something like this sweet Midi Dress with Embellished Cuffs ($76.30) in classic black. The lightweight chiffon fabric is not too heavy and the flowing style will hopefully flatter by baby belly.

You may have heard of Asos before but what you may not know is that they actually offer quite a large range of maternity wear, just looking at maternity dresses alone there are more than 100 different styles to choose from! This Breton Stripe Knitted Dress ($50.87) is obviously not suitable for the wedding but it is totally my style so I think I might get it after all. All it needs is some black leggings and it makes for one lovely maternity outfit.

To find out more about Asos, to browse the maternity range and to order online visit www.asos.com, shipping is free Australia wide.
