Bye bye nursery, hello toddler room

With the arrival of baby no.6 around the corner we are currently in a mad rush to finish our bedroom puzzle, something we always seem to leave until the very last minute! While we agreed that Harriet would have to vacate the nursery for the new arrival, at not even 2 years old (and still very much our ‘baby’) we also felt she wasn’t quite ready to move into a shared room with one of her older sisters. Our solution: A lovely toddler room fit for our little treasure…

As soon as I saw this dreamy StarBright Toddler Bed (Ages 18 months – 5 years) I knew it would fit our needs perfectly, it ticks every single one of our boxes! Designed for small legs the bed sits close to the ground, this makes getting in and out a breeze and will help your growing toddler feel safe, confident and grown-up. Harriet loves climbing in by herself and testing out her new bed (complete with fake snoring sounds), nap time or not!

Because safety is important to us I really appreciate the protective side panels that will keep little sleepyheads from accidentally tumbling out of bed as they sleep. Manufactured by Worlds Apart this easy-to-assemble bed is made with sturdy, high quality MDF and features a slat base, ensuring a durable and solid construction that is tested to the most stringent safety standards. The cute attached bedside table is even strong enough to double as a parent seat for that last bedtime story, how convenient is that?

Another delightful child-friendly feature of this sweet bed is the built-in night light that helps busy bees drift off to sleep peacefully and will turn off after 15 minutes. The moon-shaped light spreads a calming glow over the bed and projects a starry night sky onto the wall at the same time, it’s like sleeping in space! Unlike with separate night lights there are no dangerous loose cords or cables and it can not fall on the ground when little hands reach for it in the middle of the night.

The gender neutral colour scheme makes the StarBright bed a great choice for boys and girls, it easily fits in with any decor and you can simply dress it up with your favourite linen and wall decor to suit your taste. As I have a soft spot for cool, calming blue I made the bed with a crisp Starlight Blue Striped Fitted Sheet and the matching Pinwheel Quilted Comforter by CoCaLo. Although this bed looks and feels like a ‘big’ bed, thanks to the 140x70cm mattress size you can continue to use your normal cot bed linen which is great news for the family budget.

We have purposely kept Hattie’s room simple but fun with the addition of two pieces from the Worlds Apart BearHug range. To help keep the room organised and to encourage Hattie to tidy up after play we decided on the BearHug Stack Storage, a clever and compact storage unit that holds all her toys and teddies. When in use the three cubes can be separated so she can access all her treasures, and when packed away the unit’s small footprint leaves the room spacious and clean.

Inspired by her older siblings Hattie loves to get crafty which can cause a bit of trouble when she gets her hands on special markers, glitter paint, important paperwork and glue or when she climbs upon our high dining chairs to sit at the big table. This child-proof BearHug Desk solves all our trouble, she can sit at a perfect toddler height, the seat doesn’t wobble or fall over and she has access to her own crayons and paper. I just love this little art desk, I can already tell it will be one of her favourite spots in the house.

To add a pop of colour and brighten the plain walls Hattie and I added a generous sprinkle of the Multi Glitter Confetti Dots, it is like the colours were made to match the BearHug range. I loved how well the removable RoomMates wall decals came up in our girls’ room a few months ago and how easy they were to apply, so it was an obvious choice for Harriet’s toddler room. With 180 stickers per pack there was plenty of glitter to go around, our older girls instantly claimed the left-over dots for their room.

Harriet’s new room has turned into a pretty, playful and peaceful place which we think she will love and hopefully having her own special sanctuary will help make the transition easy and fun during this tricky time of becoming an older sister.

Speckled House

A few weeks ago I wrote about getting organised at home and one of the things on my to-do list was reorganise the bedrooms. After 5 years of sharing bedrooms the twins were more than ready for a change so we decided to move our girls in together and give master 5 a room of his own. Out with the pinks and time to create a spunky boys room.

Light House Wall Decal

Master 5’s domain

He already had some beautiful navy and red bedlinen so we stuck with the theme and added some cool new decor pieces to complete the look. A matching bedside light, a new ‘tic tac toe’ play rug and some awesome wall decorations, it is all slowly coming together. One of the things our son is most excited about is the Light House Wall Decal from Speckled House which features the same navy, white and red tones as the rest of the room.

Light House Wall DecalThis gorgeous wall sticker is not only a quick and easy way to decorate an empty wall, it doubles as a growth chart too. Next year we’re off to Disneyland Paris and the kids are standing against the chart every day to see if they are tall enough yet to go on all the exciting ride, so much easier than getting out the measuring tape. Installing the Light House Growth Chart Wall Decal was really easy, it took me just a few minutes to put up.

Bird HouseSpeckled House Wall Decals are made from strong, durable vinyl and they are removable, allowing you to change your child’s bedroom decor as often as you want without damaging your walls. For some handy installation tips you can always visit the Speckled House website. There are loads more stylish Wall Decals, Window Decals, Chalkboard Decals and Growth Chart Decals available for different genders and age categories and prices start at a very affordable $24.95.

Right now you can give your room a little makeover without breaking the bank with 20% off storewide at Speckled House. Prices are as marked, offer ends January 8, 2013.

Right now Leafy Dreams Nursery Decals is running a fabulous competition on their Facebook page where you can win a Leafy Dreams Nursery Decal of your choice, with so many options you will no doubt have a hard time picking a favourite! Entries close October 31, 2012.

Here in South Australia we have finally seen a little bit of gorgeous Spring weather in the past few weeks and it always gets me excited about organising, renovating and decorating. There are plenty of delightful Spring themed wall decals available at Leafy Dreams Nursery Decals to give your wall a quick spring fix. This Tree With Birds Nest design ($115) would look just gorgeous in a baby girl’s nursery (No I do not know the gender of our new baby!).

I also love the fine details of the How Tall Am I? Height Chart, it comes complete with 21 height markers to easily stick down as your child grows. There are more height chart decals available in store but this one would have to be my favourite, the colours and patterns used go so well together and really turn it into something special. Take a closer look at the elephants, aren’t they cute?
