VTech

As a mum of 2 boys and 4 girls I love seeing how our two sons are alike in many ways. Our oldest son Tommie (now nearly 12) was extremely interested in learning his letters when he was just a toddler and he still an avid reader now. He loved ABC puzzles, wipe off letter boards and any toy that would sound out the alphabet and the individual letter sounds. Five siblings and ten years later our boy Ted (2) is obsessed with the alphabet too so I had no doubt this cool VTech ride would get his (brain) wheels turning:

If your little learner is crazy about everything that moves the Playtime Bus with Phonics (RRP $34.95, ages 2-5), with its bright colours, realistic traffic sounds and push along handle, is guaranteed to be a huge hit. Initially there may just be lots of laps around the house, but there is plenty more to discover along the way…

Ted’s eyes instantly lit up when he spotted all the buttons on his new Playtime Bus. With more than 40 buttons to press, four different modes of play (Phonics, Numbers, Music Station and Challenge Time) and a door that opens and closes there is certainly no time for sitting still. All together this fabulous vehicle offers more than 100 interactive curriculum questions and 30+ melodies, songs and sounds so it really is jam-packed with learning fun.

On the top of the bus you find 4 chunky buttons to control the engine sound, horn, brakes and the intercom telling you where the bus is heading next (The next stop is the zoo) accompanied by a catchy song. By opening the door you can learn to count by counting the number of children get off the bus. Three happy passengers have a window seat and share easy-to-understand sentences about their trip when you press their picture, eg ‘A green light means go’, ‘Always wear your seatbelt in the car’ and ‘I sit with my best friend on the bus’.

The main reason the Playtime Bus caught our eye was because it teaches children all 26 letters of the alphabet, as well as the number 1-10. Simply press one of the coloured letters to hear the letter, the letter sound and an easy everyday word that starts with that particular letter. It even distinguishes between vowels (blue) and consonants (yellow), which you don’t see that often in pre-schooler toys!

Of course Ted is only just starting to practice his ABCs, but once he’s a bit more confident he can test his knowledge with a fun question and answer game in Challenge Time mode, eg. Which letter sound does elephant start with? Can you find the letter C? Let’s count how many children get on the bus!

As a mother one of the things I love is that VTech understands that praise and encouragement is a great motivator, therefor this clever bus is full of positive affirmations eg. Great job! Terrific! If kids get it wrong there is no harm done either (Nice try, let’s try again) and they’ll be keen to give things another go. Are you ready to hop on the VTech Playtime Bus?

You can find the Playtime Bus with Phonics right now at your local Big W store and soon at select online stores and independent toy retailers across Australia.

Globber

One of the awesome benefits of being a parent is that you can join in all the fun kids’ stuff, our children always love it when I bounce with them on the trampoline, go on the swing, play with dolls and build cubbies (and so do I!). Seeing how much they enjoy riding their scooters it was only a matter of time before I tagged along with the cool kids and set off on my own set of Globber wheels:

globber-18-0

Goodbye to ‘You’re too big for that’ and hello to ‘You’re never to old to have fun!’, Globber is maximising scooter fun with the awesome Globber 18.0 by Kleefer (RRP $350, black or white). Designed for riders measuring between 1.45m and 1.90m and with a height adjustable handlebar this trendy and tough scooter is perfect for both adults and children who have outgrown their smaller rides.

This top-of-the-range Globber scooter features only the very best, strong, high quality materials to ensure a pleasant ride and durable construction that is made for everyday use. Made from sturdy, extruded aluminum the spacious deck offers great balance and sits close to the ground so you can get on and off easily. The Globber 18.0 by Kleefer has a generous weight limit of 100kg to accommodate most adults comfortably.

globber-kleefer-foldFolding the Globber 18.0 is a breeze and done in just a matter of seconds, all it takes is a gentle kick of the foot to activate the clever piston-assisted Kleefer fold mechanism (No strong muscles required!). Not only does the scooter have a neat, compact, vertical fold that is ideal for transport or storage in small spaces, you don’t even have to carry it as you can just wheel it along like a trolley.

I was super impressed with the reliable feel and the smoothness of the ride, in fact the first time I rode it its fast speed really surprised me and I (secretly) felt a little nervous! Of course I didn’t show the kids, I put on my cool mum face and put my trust in the front and back brakes. The lever of the front brake sits conveniently on the ergonomic handlebars making it quick and simple to use.

The Globber 18.0 is a great choice for older children/adults travelling with public transport, people who work in the city, those who enjoy a ride through the park with the wind in their hair, parents who want to explore the outdoors with their children or even just grown-ups who are a big kid at heart.

As you may have guessed the upcoming arrival of baby no.5 calls (once again) for an overhaul of our busy but happy family home. Rooms will be changed, beds will be updated and roommates will be swapped to accommodate for another bundle of joy who we are yet to meet. We love this ever changing house and the kids are always excited when we shake things up a little.

Little Town Wall Stickers

We may not have the time (or energy, patience or money) to repaint the walls every time a room switches owner but luckily there are some super easy things you can do to freshen up a space and make it fun. One of my favourite (and quickest) ways to spice up an empty wall and style it to suit your child’s taste or interests is with some gorgeous wall stickers, I absolutely love our latest addition from Bright Star Kids.

BSK Little Town

These colourful Little Town Wall Stickers (RRP $39.95) were just the bright touch we needed for this rather plain playroom corner, doesn’t it look awesome? The set contains 12 buildings in different shapes and sizes, 1.8 metres of path/road and a selection of landscape accessories so you can build your own little town. All pieces can be placed in the order of your choice so you can create a unique town that shows your personality and fits your wall perfectly. You can grow your city even more by adding some of the other wall sticker sets that fit the theme, like construction vehicles or airplanes.

Bright Star Kids wall stickers

Bright Star Kids Wall Stickers are made from high quality, flexible fabric that is gentle on walls, removable, reusable and works on all household walls. They are particularly handy for rental properties as you can remove them without damaging the walls or leaving sticky residue, just take them with you when you move out. There are lots of different designs to choose from and prices start at just $12.95, now that’s a make-over on a budget!

Fridge-to-Go

Christmas Countdown – Day 12

With the school holidays upon us most Australian families will be planning their share of picnics in the park, days at the pool and trips to the beach. We are so luckily to have such a beautiful country to live in and I think we should all make the most of it by spending lots of time outside. No matter where you go, this summer you can keep your food and drinks cool in style with Fridge-to-Go:

Cool Tote

At first sight the Fridge-to-Go Cool Tote (RRP $59.95) looks like a trendy carry-all with plenty of storage space and handy pockets, however there is more to this shopping tote than meets the eye. The real magic is on the inside, using a simple flap you can divide the bag into a top and bottom half to change the lower compartment into a special cooling area.

Fridge-to-Go Cool ToteThanks to the clever removable chilling panel (included) you can keep the contents of the bottom part cool for 4 hours, exactly what you need for a nice lunch away from home, a bottle wine for a party or to keep baby’s meals or bottles cool when out and about. It is also very useful when you do a quick grocery shop, just pop the chilled items in the bottom half and your regular products in the top. Additional side chilling panels are sold separately if desired.

Not only does the tote keep your food fresh, it keeps it safe too with BPA-free, lead-free and PVC-safe lining that won’t leak nasty chemicals into your foods and drinks. After use you can simply clean the micro fibre interior with soap and water so it’s good to go for your next on-the-go meal. With its sweet floral print the Fridge-to-Go Cool Tote is the ideal Christmas gift for mums, grandmas, aunties, sisters and even teachers, finally a gift they will actually use and love!
