ecostore

As Christmas approaches and Spring weather finally peeks its head around the corner I am most definitely starting to feel the urge to clear out and clean up, getting ready for family time, visitors and a fresh start to a new year. ecostore helps you Spring clean your home the green way, rewarding you with a fresh and fragrant house whilst leaving yucky chemicals outside:

ecostore-multipurpose-spray-cleanerIf you asked me for my ecostore favourite it would have to be the ecostore Multipurpose Spray Cleaner Orange & Thyme (RRP $5.99, 500ml), this is your perfect go-to spray for all kinds of messy situations. As a busy mum of five I am forever cleaning up sticky fingerprints, gooey splats, little drops, big spills and millions of crumbs, this handy spray wipes away the mess and smells beautifully. I love knowing my children can touch our cupboards and floors without getting in contact with nasty chemicals.

ecostore-toilet-cleanerCleaning the toilet is not exactly an enjoyable chore but with our big family it is a daily must-do. Thought only the strongest, harshest toilet cleaner can get rid of common household germs including E.coli, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas bacteria? Think again: ecostore Toilet Cleaner Citrus (RRP $5.99, 500ml) is a powerful, plant based alternative that kills the bad but respects the bowl (and the environment), plus it leaves the littlest room of the house smelling fresh and fruity.

ecostore-laundry-powderWhile a lovely cleaning scent is nice, for some people it can cause some problems with irritated skin and airways. ecostore comes to the rescue of allergy sufferers with a range of gentle, fragrance-free laundry products, like the ecostore Laundry Powder Ultra Sensitive (RRP $7.99, 1kg) and ecostore Laundry Liquid Ultra Sensitive (RRP $8.99, 1 litre). Tough on stains and kind on skin it’s an ideal pick for newborn babies and those with sensitive skin. Bonus: Being super concentrated a little goes a long way!

ecostore-dish-liquid-grapefruitEven though we are lucky to have a dishwasher, I still prefer to wash baby Hattie’s bottles, bowls and baby toys by hand so I know they are thoroughly scrubbed and rinsed. Approved by Environmental Choice NZ the ecostore Dish Liquid Grapefruit (RRP $6.99, 1 litre) will give you both perfectly clean dishes AND peace of mind. For a neutral wash look no further than the fragrance-free alternative, ecostore Dish Liquid Ultra Sensitive (RRP $6.99, 1 litre).

By the way, did you know ecostore’s plastic packaging is made from renewable sugarcane? It’s 100% recyclable and helps to reduce your carbon footprint. Just another way ecostore is making everyday cleaning a little gentler on the world we live in.

Dettol

As we’re slowly settling back in at home I am of course very sad that our holidays have come to an end and that it will most likely be several years before we’ll see my family again. We had such a fantastic time with family and friends, exploring beautiful towns, driving through the Dutch, French, Belgian and German country side and enjoying fun days out.

Dettol SoapWhat I won’t miss however are the never ending visits to public toilets. With four young children there is always someone who needs to go urgently, which promptly causes everyone else to have a sudden bladder problem too. I have come to the conclusion that most toilets are simply too small for a parent with multiple children so it was great to discover the dedicate ‘mum and child’ toilets at Singapore’s Changi Airport that offer much needed extra space and are fitted with a special child seat.

Dettol SanitiserThese past five weeks I have seen more yucky, smelly cubicles, broken toilet seats, leaking taps, empty soap dispensers and out-of-order hand dryers than in all my 31 years together, I have never been so grateful for disinfecting wipes and my baby bag sized bottle of hand sanitiser! Nothing beats that squeaky clean feeling, fresh smell and peace of mind knowing it kills 99.99% of germs, plus no rinsing required.

Dettol Bar SoapThe upside of all these toilet breaks is that it has been an excellent opportunity to talk to the kids about good personal hygiene, washing hands, bacteria, getting sick and how things can be dirty even if you can’t see the dirt. I am quite sure the ‘don’t touch anything!’ message finally came across near the end of the holiday, let’s hope they remember it for the rest of their lives!

Dettol

Last week I wrote about a fragrant delivery from the cleaning experts at Dettol and it looks likes our house is not the only home with sticky messes and grubby floors, so many entries in our Dettol giveaway already! If you missed last week’s post you can read it here and enter the giveaway there, or take a shortcut and get your entries in below.

Dettol Kitchen Spray & WipesAs you know I was most excited about the Dettol Floor Cleaning System, with 4 young children who spend all day playing on the ground I really appreciate the quick and clean approach and it has definitely eased my worries about them coming in contact with nasty germs. However it appears there was another little gem hiding in the pack that I underestimated at first: the Dettol Power & Pure Multi Purpose Spray.

I am surprised by how often I am using this handy spray and I am still finding great new uses for it, it is quickly becoming my new cleaning favourite. Being a ‘multi purpose’ spray you can use the Dettol Power & Pure Multi Purpose Spray all around the house but as it is safe for food preparation surfaces I mainly use it in the kitchen. As a family of six we spend a lot of time there and there are always meals to be prepared or eaten which equals mess and lots of it.

Nothing like tomato sauce on a white high chair

Nothing like tomato sauce on a white high chair

Wipe off the kitchen bench and high chair after dinner, clean your stove after cooking, sanitise your cutting board after preparing food and shine up your draining area and sink; all it takes is a few sprays. If the grease is stubborn just leave it for a few minutes to activate and clean up later, this will save  you a lot of scrubbing. No harsh chemicals are left behind so there is no need to rinse afterwards.

No crying over spilt milk

No crying over spilt milk

I am sure you know what it is like, you open the fridge to quickly grab something only to find out that the bottle of milk or sticky ketchup has leaked all over your shelves. Cleaning up little fridge messes like that is easy, quick and hygenic with Dettol Power & Pure Multi Purpose Spray, it kills 99.9% of germs which is extremely important especially near your family’s food!

Dettol

Regular Hip little one readers will know that we’re currently in the middle of toilet training miss 3 and as you can probably imagine this is quite a messy adventure with some sticky surprises along the way. By now we have ditched the nappies completely (during the day) so there are many hasty runs to the bathroom. Unfortunately toilets and accidents come with their share of unwanted germs so the cleaning experts at Dettol sent me a box of Dettol cleaning products to help me keep a healthy home:

Dettol Prize Pack

A fresh and fragrant delivery from Dettol

Dettol Floor Cleaning SystemThe most exciting part of the delivery (for me) was the brand new Dettol Floor Cleaning System. The saying ‘Good things come in (relatively) small packages’ is definitely true for this nifty household gadget. On the outside it look like a simple box but inside you find all you need to get a clean floor in a flash: slide together the 4 pieces to create the handle of your Dettol Floor Cleaning System, click on the head, fold around one of the large Dettol Floor Wipes (15 pcs included) and you’re good to go.

When you have four little ones running around there is often need for a quick mopping but it’s not that easy, getting out that mop and bucket is one thing but actually finding the time to mop and then for the floor to dry without anyone walking and slipping on it is a different story. If your household is the same you will love the Dettol Floor Cleaning System as it is quick (to do and to dry), no buckets of water involved and it smells fantastic.

Dettol Floor Cleaning WipesA big plus point for me is that you use a clean wipe every time, unlike a mop which becomes rather unhygenic very quickly so you’re just mopping around those yucky germs. The Dettol Floor Wipes leave your floor shiny, remove sticky messes easily and most importantly kill 99.9% of germs including nasties like E.Coli and Staphylococcus. When you have little ones who spend a lot of time on the floor this offers great peace of mind.

I personally use the Dettol Floor Cleaning System for smaller surfaces that need immediate cleaning like after a spill or accident, eg. part of the kitchen, living room or hallway. To do a complete room you would probably need 2-3 wipes which is not very economical (to do every day) so if I want to do the whole kitchen I still leave the mopping until night time so it has time to dry. Overall I am very happy with the Dettol Floor Cleaning System and find it much easier, cleaner and convenient than a traditional mop.

Done? The wipe, and all those germs, go straight in the bin

Done? The wipe, and all those germs, go straight in the bin

Dettol Power & Pure Bathroom SprayTo tackle the inevitable mess that our little children make during their endless visits to the toilet and bathroom I have been using the Dettol Power & Pure Bathroom Spray. This spray is not only perfect for toilet seats but it also works a treat on bathroom sinks, counter tops and tiles (Oh the joys of little ones washing their hands every 15 minutes!). It smells really fresh and clean and does not require much elbow grease at all as stubborn soap scum is dissolved by a special Active Oxygen Formula.

Dettol Power & Pure products combine the best of both worlds: on the one hand they are strong and powerful, kill 99.9% of germs and cut through tough grease and dirt easily with the ‘magic’ Active Oxygen Formula and at the same time they do not leave a harsh chemical residue behind so they are safe to use on areas where your children play and live.

Dettol Kitchen Spray & WipesIn the same Power & Pure range you can also find the Dettol Power & Pure Multi Purpose Spray and Wipes, both are ideal for busy family kitchens and many other areas in your home. From kitchen bench to stove top and from splash back to oven door, everyday kitchen cleaning is now a lot easier as it doesn’t involve endless scrubbing and there is no need for wiping down afterwards.

When you share a house with six people there are some ‘high traffic’ places that really need a regular wipe down like doorknobs, bins, phones, it only takes a flash with these Dettol wipes and it will help prevent spreading germs around. Tip: The wipes are super convenient for camping or outside cooking and dining too!

If you would like some Dettol help to create a healthy home make sure you enter our giveaway below for your chance to win a fabulous Dettol Prize Pack containing all of the products featured above: The Dettol Floor Cleaning System, Dettol Floor Wipes Refill, Dettol Power & Pure Bathroom Spray, Dettol Power & Pure Kitchen Spray and Dettol Power & Pure Surface Wipes. Now that is sure to leave your home sparkling, shiny and healthy for the whole family to live and play in!

Ready to Go Toilet Time

You’d think after doing the whole toilet training business twice before (at the same time and with a boy and a girl) I have some idea of what I am doing but the truth is that nothing ever goes as planned. As you may remember I have been planning to use the Ready to Go! Toilet Time Kit and the organised part of me had decided to neatly start on January 1st…

Ready to Go! Toilet Time GirlsWith nothing on the agenda for another 3 weeks I figured it would be a perfect time to stay home and ditch those nappies. The weather would be warm and summery, washing would dry quickly and she could run around in nothing but undies. Needless to say I would have an endless supply of clean undies, wipes, toilet paper and toilet cleaner at hand, I was well prepared. Of course miss 3 had other plans…

On Boxing Day we left for a few days away to beautiful Halls Gap, a 6 hour drive away from home. Now that’s already quite the car trip with four young children who need to be fed and entertained and I hadn’t counted on a very determined 3-year old who insisted on having a dry nappy at all times and using every single roadside toilet we passed. I have never seen so many public toilets in my life! (And I have never been so grateful for family size bottles of hand sanitiser and bulk packs of disinfecting wipes)

Ready to Go! Toilet Time BoysAs you can imagine it was a challenging few days, both on the road and while at the holiday park. Let’s say I have a new found appreciation for my trusted cleaning liquids and the big stash of emergency toilet paper in our laundry cupboard. Who would have thought you could fit so much toilet paper in a toilet? (I almost had to go ask reception for help unblocking the toilet but thankfully I was spared the humiliation)

Now that we are safely back home our sparkling white toilet is all of a sudden not so interesting at all and so far we only have a few stickers on our Ready to Go! Toilet Time chart, but every step (and every toilet visit) counts so we’ll just keep going.

If you have a fabulous, tried and tested, toilet training tip I would love to hear it and make sure you enter our giveaway to win 1 of 2 Ready to Go! Toilet Time Training Kits.

Ready to Go Toilet Time

Like many other mums across the country I have been waiting for decent summer weather to arrive so I can finally start toilet training miss 3. While it was quite an easy process with the twins it turns out to be a little harder this time which proves what we all knew already: every child is different. To make sure this transition from nappies to undies is going to be as quick and smooth as possible I have been preparing for the journey ahead with the Ready to Go! Toilet Time training kit by Hinkler:

Ready to Go! Toilet Time GirlsWhen it comes to toilet training you’ll soon notice that everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks they know exactly how and when it should be done. As a mum it can be hard to filter through all those comments and ‘helpful’ advice which adds extra stress to this messy stage. The Ready to Go! Toilet Time training kit is developed with the help of expert child psychologist Dr. Janet Hall who shares her best toilet training facts, tips and tricks in a clear, calm and compact six-step guide.

Parent GuideTo make the journey fun for little ones the Ready to Go! Toilet Time training kit contains a cute board book that is sure to get children excited about the toilet. The lovely illustrated book covers all aspects of toilet training like nappies and underwear, babies and big kids, using toilet paper, flushing and hand washing and at 14 pages it’s the perfect size for a quick read while sitting on the toilet and waiting for some toilet action.

Reward Chart GirlsWith the handy, easy-to-understand parent guide in hand the toilet training process will seem a lot less daunting, you know what signs you should be looking for and what to do and what not to do as your little one gets ready to ditch the nappy. Also part of the Ready to Go! Toilet Time kit is a cute double sided reward chart and stickers so your child can ‘earn’ stickers for successful toilet visits or even attempts, after all encouragement is very important for children and will motivate them to keep trying.

Ready to Go! Toilet Time BoysAll components of the toilet training kit are neatly kept together in a gorgeous, hard cover storage case that would make a lovely gift for a cheeky toddler who is (almost) ready for toilet training. Ready to Go! Toilet Time ($16.99) is available in a boys and girls version and you can find it at all good book and department stores, newsagents and online retailers across Australia.

I used to think that I would have so much more time once the twins were fully toilet trained, not having to change nappies anymore but boy did I underestimate the mess they can make in the toilet! They go to the toilet so many times a day, using way too much toilet paper and wiggling around on the seat as they go. At first they both sat nicely on the toilet, but after having seen a public toilet on the inside I quickly thought my little man to stand up. Since then there is even more for me to clean up as aiming is a skill he has not mastered yet. Lucky there is very clever gadget to help me out, the Widdleman.

The Widdleman is specifically developed for toddler boys who are learning to go to the toilet standing up and the goal is to encourage them to wee in the toilet and not up, around or next to it. When you are only little it can be pretty tricky to get it right which can be frustrating for both child and parent. Just like with many other things that kids need to learn the key to success is to make it fun and rewarding.

The Widdleman is definitely fun: you place this little gadget in your toilet and when your little boy manages to hit the target the digital counter starts counting. The Widdleman even expresses some extra encouragement by saying ‘Great aiming little man, don’t forget to wash your hands/put the seat down/flush the toilet!’. Good habits can’t start early enough so a reminder is always welcome.

My boy thinks the Widdleman is super cool and gets very excited when he hits the target properly, it is not surprising but my daughter is very sad that she can not wee standing up. The device itself sits flat against the toilet ‘wall’ and gets cleaned with every flush, of course you also just take it out of the cradle to clean it when needed. Batteries are included and priced at just $14.99 it is a fun and affordable way to teach your little man how to use the toilet without making a mess.

To find out more about the Widdleman ($14.99), to take a closer look at the device and to order online visit www.widdleman.com.

For your chance to win one of three Widdleman devices visit www.widdleman.com and answer the following question: What part of toilet training do you find the hardest?
