I am sure you have all heard the quote ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get’ (Forrest Gump, 1994). Sweet and gooey, dark and intense or slightly nutty, every chocolate is different and the same goes for families. The Tanberry family is one of those ‘Chocolate Box’ families and with every character comes a new and interesting story, meet them all in the Chocolate Box series by Cathy Cassidy:
Of course we know that all good things come to an end some time but it’s still a little sad to read that Fortune Cookie is the latest and also the final addition to the Chocolate Box series.
This time we’re following Jake Cooke (aka Cookie) as he runs away from his less than glamourous life in Chinatown to uncover a part of his family he never knew about. It turns out his four newly discovered Tanberry half-sisters live in a big Victorian home near the sea, the family runs a real chocolate business and they are part of a reality show, now that’s quite the exciting life for a boy like Jake!
While Jake is welcomed with open arms and his time at Tanglewood is nothing short of amazing, especially with the big Chocolate Festival coming up, he comes to realise that every family has its struggles. As he gets to know and love his new family and their stories he also learns to appreciate his own family back home.
