It may surprise you but even after six kids and with more than 53 months of breastfeeding under my belt I am still learning new things. As someone who always has an oversupply of milk I have seen lots of precious breastmilk drip away, soaking piles of towels every day. Of course I realised this was a real waste, but I was also hesitant to start pumping and increase my milk production (and my mastitis risk) even more. Until I discovered Milkbar

Milkbar Breastpumps is an Australian online store that specialises in, you guessed it, breast pumps. Proud owner and mama-of-two Diana has selected only the very best brands and is dedicated to providing Aussie mothers with valuable knowledge and expert advise when it comes to feeding your baby and finding the right product for you and your situation. Diana definitely hit the mark for me when she sent me this awesome pack by New Zealand brand Haakaa:

Quick and easy to use the Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump (RRP $27.90-$29.90) is not only a very effective but also affordable way to capture every valuable drop of breastmilk that comes out of your breast while you are feeding your baby on the other side. Based on the concept of suction you simply squeeze the Haakaa pump and place it on your breast, creating a vacuum seal around your nipple. Instead of your milk dripping away and going to waste it now flows straight into the Haakaa pump, it’s as easy as that!

On my very first try of the Haakaa pump I collected 90ml of breastmilk, without any effort and without the worry of overstimulating my breasts to make more milk. Since then I have been collecting my ‘excess’ milk at every feed which left me with quite a nice emergency supply in the freezer. It has also proven to be very handy for dissolving Ted’s daily reflux medication and even miss 2 (whom I had to wean six months ago) has been able to enjoy a little cup of breastmilk every now and then. Needless to say I am super chuffed with my Haakaa.

Featuring a simple one-piece design this compact pump is an absolute breeze to use and clean (great for sleep deprived parents), it can be cleaned in a steriliser, boiled water or dishwasher. There are no tricky bits to put together or go missing and no batteries or cords to mess around with, it’s always ready to go. You can store your breastmilk directly in your Haakaa using the funky Flower Stopper or Storage Cap or you can transfer the milk into milk storage bags or containers.

Especially for new mamas Haakaa has combined all your pumping essentials in the fabulous Haakaa New Mum Starter Pack (RRP $55), containing a 150ml Haakaa Breast Pump, Storage Cap, Flower Stopper and a box of 36 disposable Haakaa breast pads. Good to know: The Haakaa Breast Pump is made from 100% food grade silicone and is completely from nasties like BPA, PVC and Phthalates.

I can’t believe miss Harriet is four weeks old already, the time absolutely flies by when you have a newborn in the house. Sometimes it does feel like I live from feed to feed these days but slowly we’re getting the hang of this breastfeeding thing. You’d think after four children I am quite the expert but from my experience you start all over again each time and it takes a while before you find out what works for both mother and baby.

This ‘learning period’ is always a tricky time for me and it comes down to simple maths: too much milk + a tiny, sleepy newborn = high risk of mastitis. Luckily for me I held on to my breast pump after baby no.4 so I’ve been expressing the ‘left-over’ breastmilk as needed and building a little stash for emergency feeds at the same time. If you’re looking for the easiest and most efficient way to go from breast to bottle you are sure to love the new Closer to Nature ‘Express and Go’ range:

Designed by the experts at Tommee Tippee the Express and Go system allows breastfeeding mothers to express, store, warm and feed breastmilk using one single pouch. By removing the need to transfer your carefully expressed breastmilk from breastpump to storage container to baby bottle it ensures you will never lose a precious drop of that so-called ‘liquid gold’.

Whether you express regularly or only every now and then, with just 4 simple steps the Express and Go is quick and easy to use. Express directly into a pre-sterilised Express and Go Breast Milk Pouch by connecting a pouch to your breast pump using an Express and Go breast pump adapter (compatible with 6 of the most popular breast pump brands). Your milk pouch can then be stored in fridge or freezer, ready for when you need it.

Pouch and Bottle WarmerCome feeding time simply grab your Breast Milk Pouch from fridge or freezer and pop it straight in the Express and Go Pouch and Bottle Warmer (RRP $89.99). With just a few quick clicks this clever unit warms bottles and pouches to the correct temperature. First select the starting temperature (room temperature, refrigerated or frozen), type of bottle (glass bottle, plastic bottle or pouch) and quantity of milk to heat (<100ml, <200ml or >200ml) and the warmer will do the rest, easy as pie.

Express and Go BottleInstead of having to pour the pouch contents into another bottle and potentially wasting precious breastmilk you can click the pouch directly into the unique Breast Milk Pouch ‘Bottle’ holder and feed baby using the Closer to Nature bottle teat. Just like the pouches and bottle holder the Closer to Nature teats are of course completely free from nasties like BPA and phthalates for extra peace of mind.

The Express and Go system is very straight forward and easy to use which is not only making life a little easier for tired mums, it is also very helpful when someone else than mum or dad is in charge of the feed, think grandma or babysitter (there is little to no room for error). I love how it efficiently saves every drop and it reduces the need for washing and sterilising storage containers and bottles (of course you still need to sterilise the breast pump and teats after use). Knowing I now have a few feeds ready to go is very reassuring so I’ll definitely keep building my freezer stash. As Harriet is less than one month old and we are still establishing a breastfeeding routine I haven’t tried the teat just yet but I know from experience with my previous babies that the breast-like shape is very well received.

Breast Milk PouchesExpress and Go products can be purchased individually or as great value set: Express and Go Complete Starter Set (RRP $130) and Express and Go Starter Set (RRP $44.99). Additional Express and Go Breast Milk Pouches (RRP $19.99) are available in a handy 20-pack. Each pouch holds 180ml of breastmilk and contents and measurements are easily visible from the outside. Breast Milk Pouches come with a screw top lid for safe and clean storage and are suitable for one use only.

The Closer to Nature ‘Express and Go’ range is available at Babies’R’Us, Baby Bunting and Big W stores across Australia.

NUK

It has been a bit of a wait but we’ve finally spotted a tooth! Even though she can’t do much biting yet baby Sybil happily chews and chomps on any food we put in front of her. From purees to mash and now soft lumps, it won’t be long until she can join in with the big kids at the dinner table. Dinner time is usually rather busy for our big family so I save myself some time by preparing the baby meals once a week and store them in the freezer:

Fruit and vegies in baby sized portions

Fruit and vegies in baby sized portions

Five months ago this was the first batch of baby food I made and since then the handy Annabel Karmel by NUK range has had quite the workout at our house. Child nutrition expert Annabel Karmel is known all around the world for her best-selling children’s cookbooks  and now she has teamed up with the clever team at NUK Australia to create an innovative range of BPA free baby equipment perfect for modern Aussie families.

NUk Freezer TrayWhen I prepare our baby food I usually fill up the Freezer Tray With Lid first. This food cube tray has enough room for nine 30ml portions, a great size for little ones just starting on solids. As your baby grows and starts eating bigger meals you can put together a mixed meal, eg. one cube of potato, one cube of carrot and one cube of fruit for dessert. The lid clips on tight and creates a flat surface, making it easy to stack in the freezer.

NUK CubesAt dinner time I just pop out one or more of the cubes (they come out easily) and warm it up ready to be eaten. The freezer tray is dishwasher safe so cleaning up is hassle free. For going out I use one of the six Stackable Cubes, each pack contains 2x 50ml, 2x 73ml and 2x 100ml containers. These colourful cubes are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe, so when you are visiting friends of family you can just quickly warm your baby’s meal without needing a separate bowl (all you need is a spoon).

NUK Food Masher and BowlI generally make larger batches with my Beaba Babycook but even with a freezer full of baby meals there are times when you just want to make a fast, single meal or snack. The Food Masher and Bowl set is easy to use, fool proof (easy for dads, grandparents and babysitters) and you can use it anywhere and anytime. I often end up grabbing this to quickly mash up a serve of fresh fruit or to make our own ‘grown up’ meal baby friendly.

NUK Ice Lolly MouldsThe last product in the range is the Mini Ice Lolly Set, it looks absolutely adorable and it’s perfect for warm summer days (we have plenty of those here in Australia). I have only just started using this as baby has to be a little bit bigger (ca. 9 months+) to be able to hold the ice lollies. Fill the moulds with your child’s favouirte fresh fruit or yoghurt, pop in the freezer, and the next day you have healthy miniature ice blocks that are super tasty and great for sore gums.

Yesterday I wrote about how much my kids enjoy the Hinkler Workbooks, they love trying their hand at the alphabet and numbers. Aside from the workbooks they have shelves full of picture books and storybooks in all shapes and sizes. I absolutely love books myself and when I find some gorgeous books in the stores I just can’t resist them. Finding a way to keep the books neat and tidy is not easy, if only I lived closer to the brand new Little Yoyo Styles store I could go check out their beautiful storage solutions with my own eyes.

You may know Little Yoyo Styles from the gorgeous online store filled with great products for babies, kids and even mums, but you may not know they have a brick and mortar store too located in Eastwood NSW. The new store has only just opened so now you can come and look, feel and test all those lovely items for yourself and take them home straight away!

Keen to get more organised this year I would love to take a closer look at some of the beautiful storage solutions from the Little Yoyo Styles range. I am particularly interested in the Fruut Storage System. It all starts with the birch wood Fruut Tree, a gorgeous piece that would look fabulous in any room. From there you can go whichever way you like, you can use it to hang up dress ups, coats, hats or use the sweet Fruut Sacks to keep little toys together and the floor clean.

This delightful Tidy Books Box caught my eye straight away. Every night my twins get to pick a book each and we read a bedtime story in bed, the books often end up under their pillows (within reach for a sneaky night time read), on the ground or behind the bed leaving the books damaged and wrinkled. The Tidy Books Box can hold up to 40 books and can be carried around from room to room, keeping them tidy and off the ground.

The bigger sister of the Tidy Books Box is the Tidy Books Bookcase, a clever way of storing your children’s books and creating an inviting place where kids can view the enticing covers and grab the ones that appeal to them. The Tidy Books Bookcase is like a kids version of a magazine stand, so many awesome pictures and titles waiting to be picked. The bookcase is available in natural, white, blue and pink and with choice of lowercase, uppercase or no letters on the shelves.

To find out more about Little Yoyo Styles, to browse the range and to start shopping visit www.littleyoyostyles.com.au or drop by at the Little Yoyo Styles retail store. Delivery within Australia is FREE for orders over $20. Like Little Yoyo Styles on Facebook to reveal your special 20% off discount code.

A few weeks ago my oldest daughter had an unlucky fall and lost a teeny tiny piece of her front tooth. Unless you run your fingers across the bottom you won’t even know and of course I know they are just her baby teeth so she will lose the whole tooth eventually but I was still very sad about it. I absolutely love baby teeth, those tiny teeth and all the gorgeous gaps between them, they are so adorable! I dread the day they will start coming out and I am determined to keep them safe in the Baby Tooth Flap Book from Baby Tooth Land.

At Baby Tooth Land they understand how precious your babies milk teeth are so they have designed a range of products that will add a special touch to the toothless stage and that will help you keep the teeth safely stored. The hardcover Baby Tooth Flap Book ($28.95) closes with a magnetic flap and inside it features twenty individual compartments (protected by a transparent cover). The round box shows exactly which position each tooth used to sit in and you can fill out when each tooth came out. Add a photo of a big toothless grin and your personal keepsake album is complete!

If your family is one of the lucky ones to be visited by the Tooth Fairy when a tooth comes out you will love the Tooth Fairy Kit ($44.95). The kit contains all you need to make the Tooth Fairy feel right at home at your place: a Tooth Fairy Doorhanger that tells her where to go, a satin Baby Tooth Pouch to place the teeth under the pillow, Tooth Fairy Stationary so your child can write a letter to the Tooth Fairy and of course a Baby Tooth Keepsake Box to store the teeth in once collected. Imagine how lovely it will be to look back at the complete set of mini teeth later and read the very funny tooth fairy letters!

All Baby Tooth Land products are available in a boys and girls version, make sure you like the Baby Tooth Land Facebook page to get a special 10% discount code for your first order.
