What can I say, you don’t know the true luxury of a relaxing warm shower until you find yourself without hot water. Recently our hot water system broke down unexpectedly which left our family of seven out in the cold, literally. But tough as they are even a chilly shower doesn’t stop my tribe from getting clean and scrubbing up while putting the newest ecostore products to the test:

Designed with the young, sensitive skin of children in mind the brand new ecostore Kids range is guaranteed to get your precious little ones squeaky clean and smelling delicious without exposing them to hidden nasties. The ecostore Kids range is safer for you and safer for the world we live in, so it’s a double win! Did you know ecostore uses unique biodegradable renewable sugarcane plastic packaging? It’s just another way they show they care.

From the top of their head to the tips of their wiggly toes, ecostore Kids Foam to the Max (RRP $9.99, 350ml) is sure to get the thumbs up from everyone. As a mum I love the practical 3-in-1 concept (shampoo, conditioner and body wash), the handy pump flacon (one pump is plenty and no waste) and of course the safe plant and mineral based formula that cleanses gently yet thoroughly. At the same time kids love the generous foam for extra bath time fun and the pleasant Pear Pop or Fruity Zing fragrance.

No matter how old you are, we all love the luxurious feeling of sinking into a big sea of bubbles. A little squeeze of ecostore Kids Double Trouble Bubble Maker (RRP $9.99, 400ml) in your bath water is enough to create a fun foam frenzy that will win over even the biggest bath hater. Just keep the bottle away from little hands because they’ll keep wanting to go back for more! Bonus: The Pear Pop scent is absolutely scrumptious.

Now I haven’t tried out this special kids hand soap myself just yet, but the word on the street is that ecostore has successfully made hand washing cool again with the new ecostore Kids Foam it Up (RRP $9.99, 350ml). One bottle of this super soap lasts an enormous 500 pumps, that’s a lot of toilet trips and excellent value for money. The gentle natural formula is safe for little ones aged 2+, putting an end to sticky fingers and greasy hands without using nasty chemicals.

These five fabulous ecostore Kids products are now available at Chemist Warehouse stores across Australia as well as the Chemist Warehouse online store.

I am sure it is no surprise to you that in a big family like ours space is always a bit of an issue. Wherever possibly I try to reduce and I love finding multi-purpose products, anything to make everyday life a bit easier and more organised for this busy mama. Recently I emptied out our overflowing cleaning cupboard and cut back to the bare basics, what a difference that makes! If you’re looking for a great all-in-one product to keep you and your house in top shape you are sure to love this gem by Dr. Bronner’s:

From hands to hair, from dishes to dogs, from face to floor, from teeth to toilets and much more, Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castille Liquid Soap is famous around the globe for its versatile cleaning properties. Made with gentle natural, certified fair-trade ingredients just a few drops of this powerful hemp 18-in-1 soap go a long way and it barely takes up any room in your bathroom cupboard. There are 11 great fragrances to choose from, if you love a light and floral scent the Cherry Blossom Pure-Castille Liquid Soap (RRP $12.95, 237ml) is your match.

Since ditching our soap pump for a traditional bar of soap the family bathroom is not only a lot less messy, my children’s sensitive skin has dramatically improved as well. The kids wash their hands many times a day and most ‘ordinary’ soaps leave their skin red, sore and irritated, but none of that with the delicious Cherry Blossom Pure-Castille Bar Soap (RRP $7.95, 140g). If only the school would start using Dr. Bronner’s too, now that would really make me happy!

Growing up in The Netherlands I used to think that chapped lips were more a cold country problem, but since moving to Australia I discovered that the heat can wreak havoc on your lips too. During the hot summer months we’re surrounded by unpleasant, dry air all day long and it sure ain’t doing delicate lips any favours. Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lip Balms provide a protective barrier to the elements without any synthetic ingredients, yay for soft, moisturised lips without nasties. We love the minty fresh Peppermint Organic Lip Balm (RRP $5.95, 4g).

Christmas Countdown – Day 19

It’s a feeling all parents know too well: whether you are a soon-to-be, new or seasoned mother, getting a gift for your little one(s) is often more fun than getting something for yourself. We totally understand how easy it is for mum to be forgotten, so we have made sure our Christmas Countdown has the whole family covered. In fact, this sweet prize pack from Milk and Love spoils both mother and child in one go:

Lovingly put together by Milk & Love owner Corryn the Mother-to-Be Eco Gift Box (RRP $59.95) contains three fabulous products any eco-conscious mama will adore:

Made right here in Australia with nourishing goat’s milk this luxurious Billie Baby Goats Milk Moisturiser (100ml) will keep your family’s skin soft and nourished the natural way. The gentle, caring formula is ideal for people suffering from eczema and other sensitive skin conditions as it is completely free from colour and fragrances that often cause irritation, you can even use it on the delicate facial area.

Containing the same delicious Aussie goat’s milk, as well as a number of carefully selected skin loving ingredients, Billie Baby Goats Milk Baby Body Wash (240ml) is the perfect addition to your daily bath or shower routine. This gentle cleanser is free from questionable nasties like parabens, SLS, propylene glycol, DEA and petrochemicals, so you can safely use it on your precious newborn (and the rest of the family). One little pump is all you need, so this bottle goes a very long way.

Measuring a very generous 120 x 120cm in size the beautiful Little Bean Organics Baby Wrap will surround your precious bundle with layers of super soft and snuggly organic cotton that is free from pesticides and other toxic ingredients. You can use this versatile wrap as a swaddle, a light blanket in the cot or pram, a play mat or even a nursing cover when out and about. The gender neutral leaf print is perfect for both boys and girls and of course surprises, what a wonderful babyshower gift idea.

As the cherry on top (and to make your life a little easier) one of Milk & Love’s Celebrating Motherhood Gift Cards and complimentary gift wrapping are included, ensuring the Mother-to-Be Eco Gift Box is ready to be gifted to a special mama in your life.

Christmas Countdown – Day 15

If you are a modern, eco-conscious parent you have most likely heard of Sustainababy, a beautiful Australian online store filled with fabulous green finds for Aussie families. Aside from being the go-to lady for awesome eco-gear owner Meg also does an amazing job educating people about sustainability, responsibility and how your shopping choices affect both your health and the environment.

Sustainababy proudly stocks products and brands that put your family’s health and the environment first, like the wonderful Little Innoscents skincare range. Especially for our lucky Christmas Countdown giveaway Meg has handpicked her six favourite Little Innoscents products:

From the top of their heads to the tip of their tiny toes, the Little Innoscents Hair & Body Wash (RRP $12.99, 250ml) is bound to leave your little ones squeaky clean. The delicious Heavenly Spearmint & Sweet Orange scent will hang around long after the fun bubbles have disappeared, leaving you feeling fresh and fruity for longer. Perfect for everyday use and safe for all ages this lovely wash will soon be a family-favourite.

We all know the importance of ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ but do you know what’s really hiding inside your sunscreen and creeping into your skin? Completely free from nano-particles, chemical absorbers and preservatives and filled with natural goodness like Vitamin E, Organic Green Tea, Cucumber and Rosehip extract Little Innoscents SPF30 Sun Lotion (RRP $19.95, 100ml) is a gentle, natural and safe way to protect your family’s skin this Summer.

Like most children our five kids are experts at making mess so there is always lots of hand washing going on in our house. Instead of using liquid soap that would leave their hands (already painful and sensitive due to certain skin conditions) red and irritated we have been using the wonderful Little Innoscents Goat’s Milk Bar (RRP $3.99, 100g). Not only does it clean and nourish in a gentle way, it also lasts a lot longer than liquid soap (and fewer spills so less cleaning).

With its pleasant Mint & Strawberry Swirls flavour this Little Innoscents Milky Whites Toothpaste (RRP $4.99, 50ml) is sure to win over even the fussiest child at toothbrushing time. Being rich in calcium and free from questionable ingredients like fluoride, surfactants, artificial sweeteners and mineral oil this organic tooth paste provides parents with much needed peace of mind, knowing their children’s precious pearly whites will stay healthy and clean naturally.

Don’t let the name fool you, Little Innoscents Winter Blue Balm (RRP $10.99, 75ml) can be used all year around to help fight little sniffles, snotty noses and annoying coughs by making breathing easier. This 100% natural and baby-safe balm is made with medicinal essential oils of Wintergreen and Eucalyptus, bringing warmth to the body and alleviating nasal congestion. What a great alternative to greasy petrolatum based products!

Last but not least, the one product pretty much every mum uses multiple times a day: baby wipes. Unlike most other baby wipes on the market Little Innoscents Baby Wipes (RRP $6.50, 80pk) are free of alcohol, artificial fragrance, colours, parabens, phthalates and other nasty chemicals, so they can be safely used on little bottoms, sticky fingers, grubby faces and toys. Infused with soothing Aloe Vera and Vitamin E they will leave your baby’s sensitive skin nourished and soft, wipe after wipe.

If you are a parent of young children you most probably have mixed feelings about fundraisers, I know I do. On the one hand we know that many schools and communities rely on them but on the other hand there are only so many sausages, chocolates and donuts one can eat! If you have had enough of seeing the same familiar fundraising events over and over again you will love this fresh new idea by ecostore:

The clean and green specialists at ecostore have put their hands together to come up with an exciting alternative for your next fundraising project, allowing you to raise money for your school, club, group or charity in a healthy way.

Good Soap boxThe Good Soap for a Good Cause initiative involves the sale of ecostore’s special Good Soap (80g), available in fresh Lemongrass or Grapefruit & Mint. At a RRP of just $2.50 per soap they are affordable for people to buy and easy to sell and a huge $1 of every soap goes to your cause, that quickly adds up! I know I would much rather purchase a few bars of soap for our family (and put some away as gifts) than buy yet another sausage on a roll.

Good Soap LemongrassSo what makes Good Soap so incredibly good? Not only do these bars of soap smell amazing, they are also completely free from nasty chemicals like cocamidopropyl betaine, propylene glycol or synthetic dyes, they are cruelty free and proudly made in New Zealand. Dettol

As we’re slowly settling back in at home I am of course very sad that our holidays have come to an end and that it will most likely be several years before we’ll see my family again. We had such a fantastic time with family and friends, exploring beautiful towns, driving through the Dutch, French, Belgian and German country side and enjoying fun days out.

Dettol SoapWhat I won’t miss however are the never ending visits to public toilets. With four young children there is always someone who needs to go urgently, which promptly causes everyone else to have a sudden bladder problem too. I have come to the conclusion that most toilets are simply too small for a parent with multiple children so it was great to discover the dedicate ‘mum and child’ toilets at Singapore’s Changi Airport that offer much needed extra space and are fitted with a special child seat.

Dettol SanitiserThese past five weeks I have seen more yucky, smelly cubicles, broken toilet seats, leaking taps, empty soap dispensers and out-of-order hand dryers than in all my 31 years together, I have never been so grateful for disinfecting wipes and my baby bag sized bottle of hand sanitiser! Nothing beats that squeaky clean feeling, fresh smell and peace of mind knowing it kills 99.99% of germs, plus no rinsing required.

Dettol Bar SoapThe upside of all these toilet breaks is that it has been an excellent opportunity to talk to the kids about good personal hygiene, washing hands, bacteria, getting sick and how things can be dirty even if you can’t see the dirt. I am quite sure the ‘don’t touch anything!’ message finally came across near the end of the holiday, let’s hope they remember it for the rest of their lives!

To find out more about Dettol, to browse the range and to learn all about keeping hands clean and healthy at home and on the go visit www.dettol.com.au.
