Royal Baby

For months people from all over the world have been speculating about the royal baby. Will it be a boy or a girl and what will they call it? What pram will the new mum be pushing and what nappy bag will she be carrying? Some of these questions are yet to be answered but there is one thing we know for sure: what the new arrival will be wearing…

Sapling Owl On Branch RomperWhen Australian designer and small business owner Peta from Sapling recently received a new online order I bet she wasn’t expecting it to be from the one-and-only Duchess Of Cambridge. Somehow the glowing mum-to-be discovered this lovely organic clothing label from Melbourne and she ordered a big box of Sapling goodies for the royal baby. Beautifully designed and made from the softest organic cotton these garments are sure to be a favourite in the royal wardrobe.

Sapling Bird in Tree BodysuitUnlike what you may think Sapling is actually very well priced, prices start at just $14.95 and there is nothing over $29.95. The range consists of tops, bottoms, rompers and bodysuits and caters for boys and girls from 0 to 12 months old. I have my eye on this gorgeous Bird in Tree Bodysuit ($26.95) for our little lady. If you have a tiny prince or princess of your own who deserves some soft, safe and sumptious Sapling fashion you can order your favourite Sapling pieces from BabyDonkie.

Baby Donkie

It has been a while since we’ve invited a small business owner over for Sunday Coffee on Hip little one, but after discovering Baby Donkie I couldn’t resist and sat down with owner Dong-Maria for a quick chat. Dong-Maria is a proud mama of two boys and she loves hunting for unique goodies for her store. I just love her taste! Find out more about this gorgeous store and the lovely lady behind it:

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
A sleep in if I can sneak one in and then heading to Balmoral Beach with a few friends to take the kids for a quick swim before grabbing fish and chips for lunch.

What do you enjoy most about running Baby Donkie?
I love seeking out new and gorgeous products from Australian designers as well as boutiques from overseas. I’m learning so many new things everyday whether it be about the latest trends, how to use social media, sales and marketing or how to run a business. It has also been wonderful to meet lovely people in the industry who have similar interests and who have also been inspired by their kids to venture into their own business.

What is (currently) your favourite product at Baby Donkie?
Sapling Owl on Branch BoydsuitI’ve got a soft spot for the Sapling Organic range and my favourite item is the Owls on the Branch Bodysuit.

What can we expect from Baby Donkie in the future?
This year I will be bringing in some new labels including Indikidual, Mini Shatsu and DandelionKids. You’ll also see a lot more boyswear and unisex clothing at Baby Donkie as with having two boys of my own I know it can be hard to find well designed and unique boys clothing.

What is your best tip for keeping the kids entertained during the school holidays?
Lincoln and Archer have so many cousins, so my best tip is to have a few over or go visit them. As they are close in age, the kids can keep themselves entertained with little more than a soccer ball or some water balloons. Other than that, we have filled the holidays with a few outings such as going to the zoo, beach and seeing play at the Opera House.

As you may have read earlier this week I have discovered many great eco friendly products lately and I can’t wait to share them with you. Ever since finding out about the dangers of BPA and other scary materials that are used in the bowls, cups and bottles we use for our family every day I have only purchased safe alternatives and threw out the rest. It gets even better when those safe products are also super cute and biodegradable like these gorgeous Ecups from Buxton Baby.

Buxton Baby is a fantastic family business with Australian mum Pip selecting only the best green and eco friendly products for your family. In store you’ll find green finds for babies, kids, mums and even your household. The Ecups are a perfect example of Pip’s good taste, they are made of bamboo and at the end of their life they (normally) take about 12-18 months to decompose. How cool is that? The price is cool too, just $15.96 for a set of 6.

The moment I laid eyes on the Edulodo Shapes set ($44.95) from French brand Djeco I knew it: this would be a huge hit with the twins. They have already spent hours playing happily at the kitchen table, counting, placing, swapping and trying to copy the different images on each card. With 41 timber shapes, 45 cards and multiple levels of difficulty they will no doubt enjoy this kit for a long time to come.

To stay on the topic of toys I absolutely love the Plan Toys Butterfly Mirror. This would have to be the most affordable, fun, cute, durable and eco friendly gift you can find for a new baby. The body is made from eco friendly rubberwood and the wings can be removed for washing. Featuring bright colours and a mirror (easy entertainment for babies) you simply can’t go wrong with this friendly little toy (and priced at just $13.95 it won’t break the bank either).

While you are looking around in this gorgeous store don’t forget to check out one of their latest additions, the beautiful organic clothing range from Sapling Child. If you like what you see you are in luck as Buxton Baby is running a special Sapling Child giveaway and one lucky winner will win a $100 Sapling Child Organic Baby Clothing Pack in gender and size of their choice. Hurry though as entries close February 29, 2012.
