Bye bye nursery, hello toddler room

With the arrival of baby no.6 around the corner we are currently in a mad rush to finish our bedroom puzzle, something we always seem to leave until the very last minute! While we agreed that Harriet would have to vacate the nursery for the new arrival, at not even 2 years old (and still very much our ‘baby’) we also felt she wasn’t quite ready to move into a shared room with one of her older sisters. Our solution: A lovely toddler room fit for our little treasure…

As soon as I saw this dreamy StarBright Toddler Bed (Ages 18 months – 5 years) I knew it would fit our needs perfectly, it ticks every single one of our boxes! Designed for small legs the bed sits close to the ground, this makes getting in and out a breeze and will help your growing toddler feel safe, confident and grown-up. Harriet loves climbing in by herself and testing out her new bed (complete with fake snoring sounds), nap time or not!

Because safety is important to us I really appreciate the protective side panels that will keep little sleepyheads from accidentally tumbling out of bed as they sleep. Manufactured by Worlds Apart this easy-to-assemble bed is made with sturdy, high quality MDF and features a slat base, ensuring a durable and solid construction that is tested to the most stringent safety standards. The cute attached bedside table is even strong enough to double as a parent seat for that last bedtime story, how convenient is that?

Another delightful child-friendly feature of this sweet bed is the built-in night light that helps busy bees drift off to sleep peacefully and will turn off after 15 minutes. The moon-shaped light spreads a calming glow over the bed and projects a starry night sky onto the wall at the same time, it’s like sleeping in space! Unlike with separate night lights there are no dangerous loose cords or cables and it can not fall on the ground when little hands reach for it in the middle of the night.

The gender neutral colour scheme makes the StarBright bed a great choice for boys and girls, it easily fits in with any decor and you can simply dress it up with your favourite linen and wall decor to suit your taste. As I have a soft spot for cool, calming blue I made the bed with a crisp Starlight Blue Striped Fitted Sheet and the matching Pinwheel Quilted Comforter by CoCaLo. Although this bed looks and feels like a ‘big’ bed, thanks to the 140x70cm mattress size you can continue to use your normal cot bed linen which is great news for the family budget.

We have purposely kept Hattie’s room simple but fun with the addition of two pieces from the Worlds Apart BearHug range. To help keep the room organised and to encourage Hattie to tidy up after play we decided on the BearHug Stack Storage, a clever and compact storage unit that holds all her toys and teddies. When in use the three cubes can be separated so she can access all her treasures, and when packed away the unit’s small footprint leaves the room spacious and clean.

Inspired by her older siblings Hattie loves to get crafty which can cause a bit of trouble when she gets her hands on special markers, glitter paint, important paperwork and glue or when she climbs upon our high dining chairs to sit at the big table. This child-proof BearHug Desk solves all our trouble, she can sit at a perfect toddler height, the seat doesn’t wobble or fall over and she has access to her own crayons and paper. I just love this little art desk, I can already tell it will be one of her favourite spots in the house.

To add a pop of colour and brighten the plain walls Hattie and I added a generous sprinkle of the Multi Glitter Confetti Dots, it is like the colours were made to match the BearHug range. I loved how well the removable RoomMates wall decals came up in our girls’ room a few months ago and how easy they were to apply, so it was an obvious choice for Harriet’s toddler room. With 180 stickers per pack there was plenty of glitter to go around, our older girls instantly claimed the left-over dots for their room.

Harriet’s new room has turned into a pretty, playful and peaceful place which we think she will love and hopefully having her own special sanctuary will help make the transition easy and fun during this tricky time of becoming an older sister.

It feels like we only just completed the last bedroom makeover and now we’re about to start all over again! With baby no.6 due in September we’ve had to rework our floorpan, rethink who sleeps where (and with whom) and of course create a brand-new nursery for our new arrival, so much to do and not enough time… Luckily everyone is excited about the upcoming bedroom shuffle and about getting a new bedroom buddy.

Once the renovations are complete miss 4 is moving up the hall into a girls bedroom together with miss 6 and they both can’t wait. We’ve picked out some gorgeous linen for their beds, some cosy pillows for reading and relaxing and we added a fresh sprinkling of love with these little pretties by RoomMates:

What better way to transform a plain wall into a girly delight than with a generous supply of love hearts? With a huge 180 individual decals Watercolor Heart Wall Decals in a range of pink shades there was certainly no shortage of love (to be honest we only used half, leaving plenty for the other girls room!). And guess what? Not only can you brighten up your walls with these beauties, you can also use them to revamp other flat surfaces like your furniture, windows and more.

Applying a RoomMates wall decal is as simple as peel, position and stick, if I can do it anyone can do it! It is quick, easy and non-permanent making RoomMates ideal for people who are renting or just want a stylish decor that can be reversed when people move house, swap bedrooms or change their style. If you want to update your decor the stickers can easily be removed without damaging your walls and you can reuse them in a different location, offering affordable design fun over and over again.

Another personal plus is that, unlike when you paint walls, RoomMates won’t leave you with strong paint fumes that can unsettle children or oversensitive pregnant mamas like myself. I really enjoyed our first RoomMates experience so I can’t wait to pick the perfect RoomMate for our baby’s nursery. There are so many different designs to choose from to suit any bedroom, playroom or living room but I am leaning towards this Modern Giant Tree or the Neutral Confetti Dots, what do you think?
