What do you do when you need to bring ‘something robotic’ to school for Show & Tell? Build your own robot of course! With school being all about robots these last few weeks miss 6 was super keen to try her hand at making a robot herself, which turned out to be not only lots of fun but also very interesting with this exciting new release from the toy specialists at Colorific:

Build-a-Bot (RRP $39.99, ages 5+) is a fantastic range of toy building kits that introduces children to the basics of S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through play. Who knew learning about motors and sensors, magnets and levers could be so cool? The simple click-and-create system makes kids feel confident that their project is coming together properly and at the end they are rewarded with a robotic toy that really works.

Being only 6 years old Juliet did need a bit of help building her robot, supervised by Hip Daddy she looked at the photos and read the step-by-step instructions until her Build-a-Bot Bunny was ready to come to life. There is even a sticker sheet included so you can decorate and personalise your bot to your own taste. It was a really great activity to do together and the best part is that you can build/pull it apart as many times as you want.

The pretty pink rabbit robot was just up Juliet’s alley, it has the cutest little nose, huge bunny ears and a cheeky tail. It took a bit of patience but once complete it was finally time to introduce the tasty carrot, a clever food trigger that will magically get your bunny to hop around when the carrot touches its nose (Just makes sure you have two AA batteries on hand to make it work). To record your child’s achievement in style a build certificate is included.

One of the other things I really like about Build-a-Bot is that you can swap and change parts between the different kits to create your very own unique bots, what a great way to encourage young builders to use their imagination! There are currently three separate Build-a-Bot kits to choose from (Bunny, Dino and Fox) and with more than 20 pieces per set the combinations really are endless.

Battroborg

Christmas Countdown – Day 20

With only four short days to go until Christmas many mums are running around like mad women doing the last minute grocery shopping, preparing the house for all the visitors and trying to source a few missing Christmas gifts. If you are still searching for a present that will get the thumbs up from the boys you may like to know that the toy experts at TOMY are putting their money on Battroborg as the big hit this Christmas:

Battroborg Warrior Knight vs Viking Arena Set

Are you, like me, unfamiliar with the Battroborg phenomenon? (Yes I still have a lot to learn and discover too when it comes to toy trends) Battroborg Warriors are motion control battling robots outfitted with interchangeable weapons and armor.

Battroborg WarriorsUsing handheld motion controllers players can control their Battroborg robots as they battle it out against each other in the Battroborg Warriors Battle Arena (ages 6+). Each warrior has a different story, different armor and weapons, who will conquer when they face each other in the ring? Knock your opponent down with the strike of a sword, the hit of an axe, the sweep of a kama or the swing of a blade and be crowned the winner!

We all know that sometimes it takes a while for dreams to come true and that’s definitely the case in the Woddlers ‘I Dream Of’ competition. Last year I told you all about this fantastic initiative by Woddlers owner Meegan Cassell, inviting Australian kids to design their very own Woddlers backpack and raising money for the wonderful Starlight Foundation at the same time. Well the winners have been chosen, the Woddlers design team has been busy creating the winning backpacks and now the time has finally come to unveil this special, and very meaningful, collection:

Woddlers Fairy

The Woddlers ‘I Dream Of’ collection consists of three boys designs and three girls designs, all styles are available as a lunchbox ($29.95), toddler backpack ($39.95) and kinder backpack ($49.95). Featuring a fairy, unicorn and ballerina for the girls and an astronaut, pirate and robot for the boys the range has all little kids’ dreams covered. My personal favourite is the fairy, which design would your child like most?

Woddler Toddler BackpackWoddlers Toddler Backpacks are designed with little adventurers in mind, big enough for a change of clothes, lunch and a drink bottle they are the perfect companion for daycare or a day at grandma’s without being too heavy or bulky. Woddler backpacks are 100% PVC free and made of strong nylon for extra durability. The wide shoulder straps are adjustable so you can create the right fit for your child and change them as he/she grows.

Woddlers Kinder BackpackJust like the name suggests the new Woddlers Kinder Backpacks are a little bigger in size than their toddler sibling. Not only are they taller and wider so they offer more internal storage, they also have an extra pocket at the front. The carry handle makes it easy for kids to hang their bag up in their locker and thanks to the mesh side pocket they can keep their drink bottle easily accessible and safely away from school books and home work in the main storage compartment.

Woddlers Lunchbox AstronautTeam up your new I Dream Of backpack with a matching insulated Woddlers Lunchbox for the ultimate Woddlers look, they look gorgeous together and it makes it easy for children to recognise their belongings. Just like the backpacks these cute lunch boxes have a stitched on name label, you wouldn’t want to lose your stylish new bag or lunchbox! Woddlers lunch boxes have a waterproof and food safe inner so you can just wipe them clean after lunch.

Bonus: To make room for the new I Dream Of arrivals the original Woddlers Animal range has been reduced by a massive 50%, now is the perfect time to grab a bargain and stock up for your next birthday party or Christmas.
