World Weather Map

Corby Tindersticks World Weather Map

You may have noticed that world maps are very popular when it comes to decorating nurseries and kids bedrooms but I bet you haven’t seen one this awesome before, I think it is just divine. The Corby Tindersticks World Weather Map has travelled all around the globe: the felt is made the US, then it is printed with eco friendly ink in Wales and assembled by hand in the Corby Tindersticks studio in Birmingham so it can now be hung on the bedroom wall of one very lucky Aussie boy or girl. Each map comes with 8 super cute weather symbols, I think I would order the rainbow every single day.

Barry BagsIf you are searching for a soft toy that’s not a fluffy teddy or woolly sheep the cool Corby Tindersticks soft toy characters could just be what you are looking for. Ralph Raddish, Wilby, Barry Bags and Hip Hop Harold are looking for a new friend to take them home, will it be you? Each toy is printed with eco friendly ink and assembled by hand in the UK. Itty Bitty Box

When I gave birth to the twins in 2008 my life changed in many ways, one of them being the way I shop. Instead of pushing my way through busy shopping centres I started to discover calm and peaceful online shopping. I love browsing the virtual aisles, racks and shelves for unique finds so I was pretty chuffed to discover online store Itty Bitty Box, the much loved ‘8th baby’ of gorgeous mamas Eleni and Zoe.

Eliza DollThese two clever ladies have 7 children between them so they know what to look for when selecting their goods. At Itty Bitty Box you’ll find, well, a bit of everything but every single product has one thing in common: It is unique and you won’t find it in every other store. From funky clothing to sweet baby presents, beautiful toys to fun craft and games, there is something for boys and girls, big and little, so make sure you remember this store when it comes to gift shopping.

Breakfast Play SetWhat I love about Itty Bitty Box is the absence of noisy, flashing electronic toys, they have managed to source durable, high quality pieces that offer traditional fun and encourage little ones to think and use their imagination without being boring or old fashioned. This colourful wooden Breakfast Play Set comes in a cute tin suitcase (no missing pieces, easy to tidy up) and costs just $24.95, such a great price!

Cupcake GameAs you know our family really enjoys playing games and while the classics are good fun I love discovering games that are a little different. Itty Bitty Box stocks some fantastic kids games from well known brand eeBoo, the gorgeous packaging alone is enough to get you excited. I especially like the look of the Cupcake Game and I never forget a face and would love to add them to our game shelf. The detailed artwork is stunning and the games themselves will keep little minds busy for hours.

Vehicle Tap TapYou might remember this type of game from your childhood, the Djeco Tap Tap kits are just as much fun as in the olden days but with a new modern look. You can choose from a Space Tap Tap or Vehicle Tap Tap kit, each theme comes in a storage box and contains all kids need to start ‘tapping’. Using all the different building parts and a hammer they can recreate the images on the idea cards (supplied) or make up their own creations.

When I started Hip little one in 2009 one of the first store owners I worked with was the gorgeous Mel from Whimsy Child. In the past nearly three years we have worked together quite a few times and she has been a very loyal sponsor which I am extremely grateful for. Mel has such a keen eye for items that are very hip and far from boring and ordinary, you can trust to always find something unique at Whimsy Child.

If you have visited Whimsy Child before you may have wondered about the person behind this store. It will be no surprise to you that Mel is as unique as her store, she is a talented and creative soul and you can find out more about her as we sit down for today’s Sunday Coffee.

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
A late, lazy start to the day is my / our ideal. The rest of our week is so frantically busy that it’s nice to just slow right down for a little while! Something a bit decadent & scrummy for breaky too – pancakes or crepes are always a hit!

What did you do before you started Whimsy Child and what made you start your own business?
Before starting Whimsy Child I was (and still am!) a musician. This means I teach & perform. When my youngest was a baby I found myself spending a lot of time online browsing online stores to find quirky interesting clothing- it led to the decision to open my own store.

What do you love most about running Whimsy Child?
I love the independence of being self employed. It has it’s downfalls too of course and it’s always unstable, but I really love being able to make my own decisions about things and knowing that I am accountable to me! I love the fashion side of it too, seeing new trends emerging, getting to pick what to stock in the shop (which ultimately means picking out my kids wardrobes 6 months in advance!) and I have been really enjoying doing some very basic graphic art stuff for the business also

What is your favourite item in store?
Such a hard pick! I have a couple of lines that I’m very proud to be carrying: Munster, Shampoodle and Salt Water Sandals are probably my top picks, but very closely followed by others (so hard to choose,  it’s like being asked to choose your favourite child!). If I had to pick one, it would probably be Salt Water Sandals. My girls have both had 3/4 pairs each and I own two pairs myself (I’m waiting to reward myself with another colour soon).

What part of being a mum do you like most?
Being a mum is a privilege. I love seeing & being a part of watching my little people grow up to become some of the nicest people I know.

When my parents were visiting Australia last month I wanted to give them a lovely Australian gift to take back home to our little nieces in The Netherlands. It didn’t take me long to come up with something, I knew straight away that they would absolutely love the creations of the girls at O.B.Designs. You might know this Australian label from the adorable DINGaRINGs or quirky Stufits, but have you also seen their newest arrival?

The Heart Felt Creations ($14.95) have only just arrived on our shores but they have already stolen many hearts, not a surprise really as they are just gorgeous. Their soft felt bodies are combined with an interesting crinkle sound, gentle squeaker or dingle bell so they are the perfect toy for inquisitive little people and will keep them entertained for ages. The looks are inspired by Australia’s fascinating wildlife, landscape and culture, translated into stylish products by two talented Australian designers.

To help with teething drama’s and to cheer up sad little faces there are the O.B.Design DINGaRINGs ($19.95), the 3-in-1 baby toys featuring a natural wooden teething ring, soft and cuddly body and fun rattle. The collection consists of eight cheeky creatures with personalities to match. Emma Owl, Tony Tree Frog, Pete Penguin, which DINGaRING would get your baby giggling most?

The O.B.Designs Stufits ($24.95) are the quirky take on the boring back pack, big enough for a pair of pyjama’s and a toothbrush or some snacks for an afternoon out to the park or visit to grandma and grandpa. I can’t wait for our niece to meet Kev Koala, although I think she would have loved Lola Ladybug too. With 4 characters to choose from there is a great Stufit friend for every little boy or girl.

To find out more about O.B.Designs, to browse the range and to order online go to www.obdesigns.net or visit one of the many O.B.Designs stockists Australia wide.

Last week I took the twins to the local kindy to pick up their enrolment forms for next year. They loved it and wished they could stay straight away but obviously it is all making me a little nervous. The kindy director told me there could be up to 35 children in the kindy class and when I checked out the paintings on the wall I noticed that there were multiple children with the same name. Obviously I can’t really prevent this happening to my kids next year but at least I am quite sure they won’t be wearing the same clothes as other children as well. If you are after something quirky and original you will love Hoot Kid’s Clothing.

Hoot Kid’s Clothing is a new Australian store selling clothing and accessories for boys and girls up to 7 years old. What makes this store so unique is that they only sell one size range of each garment, making the chance extremely slim that your hip son or daughter will bump into someone else wearing the same outfit. Owner Caroline has made it her mission to source funky pieces from designers all over the world and she has definitely succeeded.

Brand new in store, fresh out of the box, is the Say it with Flowers Jumpsuit ($29.95, size 1-6). This beautiful navy coloured jumpsuit with floral print is the must-have summer garment for little fashionista’s. It features cute shoulder ties, an elastisiced waist and cuffs and even pockets on the side. As there is only one garment available in each size you will have to be quick if you want to own this sweet little number.

Aside from the every changing clothing range Hoot Kid’s Clothing offers a great selection of affordable accessories, a cute necklace, bracelet or set of hair clips would make a fabulous stocking filler (did you realise Christmas is just 5,5 weeks away?). To give you a helping hand with your shopping Hip little one readers get $5 discount on every order they place with the code ‘hiplittleone’, there is no minimum spend and there is no end date either!

To find out more about Hoot Kid’s Clothing, to browse the range and to order online visit www.hootkid.com.

For your chance to win one of two $20 Hoot Kid’s Clothing gift vouchers visit www.hootkid.com and answer the following question: Which item(s) in store would you choose if you won one of the gift vouchers?
