Pan Macmillan Australia

With only a few weeks left until baby no.6 joins the family I feel like I am constantly in and out of hospital for check-ups, going for ultrasounds and last minute shopping. It’s rather exhausting for me but quite tiring too for miss Hattie who has to tag along everywhere I go. I am trying to make the trips as easy as possible with yummy lunnchboxes full of tasty snacks and some gorgeous books to read while waiting (there is a lot of waiting!). These lovely board books by the talented Louise Forshaw are absolutely perfect for your baby bag or your toddler’s backpack and I can’t wait to add a few more to our collection:

In Busy Vet (RRP $6.99) we take a look around the veterinary clinic, where we meet all kinds of animals. From cats to dogs and from turtles to lizards, there are so many different patients. Little readers will love exploring Busy Vet by pushing, pulling and sliding the tabs while listening to simple rhyming sentences. Made from sturdy cardboard these books are totally toddler-proof and very durable.

I wonder what treats they are serving up in the Busy Café (RRP $6.99) today? On display are scrumptious muffins, cakes, rolls, fruit and much more. Using the tabs kids can pay at the counter and ‘print’ a receipt, whip up a smoothie and a coffee for mum, this book is so much fun to look at. Priced at just $6.99 each, Busy Books are amazing value for money, now that’s a great gift idea that won’t break the bank!

I love handmade and I love wood so it is no wonder I am excited about Nikl, the new kid on the (carving) block. Owner and designer Nicole has over 10 years of wood working experience under her belt, starting back in Germany in 2000, via creating furniture, play equipment and storage units, she is now ready to stamp her mark on the Australian market with her own range of handmade wooden toys and furniture and decorative items. Nikl‘s goal is to create long lasting, educational toys that can be loved and enjoyed by multiple generations.

At the moment the range consists of 7 designs but Nicole is very busy working on new additions. Nikl‘s signature design, the car, can be found in several of her creations from small toy cars and fridge magnets to a very cool car coat rack in two different styles. The Small Car ($26.50) is a perfect example of the real Nikl style: simple, effective and beautifully made. All the toys are tested to comply with Australian and New Zealand safety standards and treated with organic oil.

The Hanging Car Coat Rack (49.90) is the perfect addition to a little boys bedroom or your hall way, offering a neat and tidy place to hang coats and bath robes. The coat racks are designed to be hung at children’s height and can be moved easily. Screws are not visible on the surface so you can really enjoy the beauty of the natural wood and obviously there are no sharp edges for little fingers to get hurt on.

For the youngest ones there is the Nikl Pull Along ($49.90), cleverly created with simple shapes to appeal to little minds. It makes a clacking noise when pulled over hard floors, making children aware of sounds and the part they play in making it. As your child learns to crawl and walk this pull along will be a favourite toy and even for older toddlers it is fascinating. In fact it is not the baby but my 3-year old twins who love this toy the most, especially running with it to make the clacking sounds go faster.

To find out more about Nikl, to browse the current range and to order your favourite designs online visit www.nikl.com.au. All products are handmade in Melbourne and postage depends on the items in your order, local pick up is available.
