BRIO

Living oceans away from your family is hard, really hard. Some days are better than others but when you’ve just had a baby and the Christmas season is coming up it’s extra tough. Thankfully after 11 years of marriage Hip Daddy knows how much I struggle this time of year, so he gave us an early surprise by booking us an amazing 5-week holiday with my family next year. I know it is still months away but the kids and I are already getting in the mood with BRIO:

Backpacks and suitcases, swimmers and sunnies, toys and books for on the plane and of course loads of presents for all our loved ones, at our house the planning and preparing is always part of the fun. If you’re planning to take your little ones on a plane trip this Summer the cute BRIO Airplane Boarding Set (Ages 3+) would make a perfect Christmas gift.

This 5-piece play set is sure to get little travellers excited about an upcoming holiday, I just love the wooden details. It includes a fabulous looking aeroplane, the pilot, a holiday maker with a suitcase and even a rolling staircase to lead passengers on and off the plane, just like in real life. The roof of the plane opens up to reveal three spots to fit your two figurines and a piece of luggage.

I love that you can use this toy plane to go on a pretend flight in the air, as well as ride it on the ground using the sturdy wheels that roll nice and smooth. The people can be posed to stand up or sit down and you can even move their arms to actually hold the suitcase or grab the railing of the staircase. Designed for small hands the Airplane Boarding Set is easy to hold and play with and its compact size makes it an excellent toy for on-the-go, it will fit perfectly in a kids backpack or suitcase.

Going on a plane trip can be quite scary for young children, which is where a fun, playful toy like this can really make a difference. Kids can use their imagination and act out little stories about going on a holiday, flying on a plane and how to board and onboard, so that when it’s time for take-off they feel more prepared and calm about the trip ahead. For our 2-year old this will be the first time she’ll fully understand and experience a flight (a 24 hour journey in fact) so we’ll definitely be using BRIO in our holiday preparations.

fly-tot

Now that December is finally upon us everyone is getting excited about warm family get-togethers, special trips and much anticipated holidays, I can’t wait! While most of us looks forward to the fun, friends and festivities that await at our destination, the thought of travelling there is a lot less inviting. If you are planning a plane trip with young children you are going to love this sanity-saver:

fly-tot-single-seat

Created by two clever mothers and seasoned travellers the Fly-Tot (RRP $120) is an absolute travel must-have for young families, If only I had discovered it before our last European adventure, it would have been such a great help!

fly-totThe Fly-Tot concept is simple but genius: First place your Fly-Tot cushion in front of your child’s plane seat, then blow it up with the included foot pump to instantly create a comfortable lounge seat for your little jet-setter. It’s almost like turning your regular Economy seat into First Class luxury! Thanks to all this added space little ones can rest their legs and even curl up for a nap without limbs continuously sliding off the seat, how clever is that?

fly-tot-compactFly-Tot has been thoroughly tested to fit nice and snug in between plane seats and even if you are in a Super Economy seat (very little space!) you can use the Fly-Tot upside down. If you are travelling with two children you can double the Fly-Tot comfort by using two cushions next to each other to create ‘beds’, it’s a bit like camping on a plane. When not in use your Fly-Tot cushion deflates to a compact package and a handy carry-strap for easy transport is included.

As you may know we travel to Europe every second year to visit my family so I know all about exhausting long-haul flights, tired children and uncomfortable sleeping positions. Fly-Tot is such an easy way to make the journey more enjoyable, after all happy, well-rested children equal happy parents!

Trunki

Sadly for us the holiday fun is coming to an end today as we get ready to fly back to Australia this afternoon. Saying goodbye is always the most difficult part and not knowing if and when you’ll see each other again makes it even harder! Back at home the school holidays are just beginning with families getting ready for fun road trips and faraway vacations. See how Trunki is taking kids’ luggage to the next level:

From storing and sliding to sitting and gliding, the exciting new Jurni (RRP $199, red, blue or pink) is the ultimate travel-accessory for young adventurers.

Jurni BlueThe Trunki Jurni is a stylish carry-on suitcase that is packed with clever features to make your next journey as simple and smooth as possible. Compact enough to be cabin-luggage approved this strong suitcase has a generous 25L capacity, one large storage compartment and a super handy pop-out pod that allows you to keep your most important must-haves on hand all the time. I just love how you can use the Jurni like a stand-up storage locker with a flexible shelf.

Trunki RedWhile on-the-move the Jurni also doubles as a sturdy seat, it even has in-line skate wheels so you can glide along and give your tired legs a well deserved rest. Thanks to the generous 100kg weight limit the Jurni comfortably holds kids and (most) adults. Fly Babee

With just over 4 months to go until our European holiday I am starting to get very excited. I can’t wait to see my loved ones again and of course to introduce baby Harriet to her Dutch family. As she will be 11 months old when we travel Hattie will not get a seat on the plane, but thankfully we received confirmation that a bassinet has been allocated to us. Together with our super handy Fly Babee that means she’ll hopefully be able to snooze in peace during the flight:

Fly Babee

Hailed as a real must-have for travelling families the award-winning Fly Babee (RRP $99.95) is the world’s first sleep-easy cover designed for airline bassinets, pram carry cots and strollers. It’s compact, portable and extremely light-weight (just 600 grams!), yet big enough to comfortably fit around airline baby beds and large prams and provide your baby with a private place for a little nap.

Fly Babee Storage BagThe practical pop-up design makes Fly Babee extremely easy to use, it unfolds in the blink of an eye and attaches to the bassinet or pram frame with simple clips. This same strong pop-up frame creates a safe, spacious ‘dome’ around your baby without a claustrophobic feel or the risk of collapsing. When not in use you can keep your Fly Babee cover safely tucked away in the handy carry bag (included) which attaches to your pram with two velcro straps.

Fly Babee Pram CoverFly Babee is packed with plenty of other great features to make travelling with a baby a little easier, for example block-out fabric that locks out over 90% of surrounding light, 100% breathable fabric to avoid overheating and a convenient ‘Chance a Glance’ window so parents can have a little safety-peek without disturbing your tiny dreamer. Whether it’s a walk around the block, a short domestic trip or a long international flight, Fly Babee takes the stress out of your next family adventure.

Almost a year ago I gave you a sneak-peek of an exciting new baby product called Fly Babee, designed by a clever Aussie mama called Emma. The past year has been a whirlwind of exciting developments for Emma with Fly Babee appearing on Shark Tank (and locking in an investor!) as well as scoring a Bronze Award at the latest St George Banking Group Ausmumpreneur Awards. Clearly people all over the country are falling in love with Fly Babee and it’s time you do too:

Fly Babee, first class flying for babies

Fly Babee

When people hear we recently travelled to Europe for a whole month with four children under six they usually call us crazy. Because all my family lives overseas plane trips are simply unavoidable so (while I admit it is not the most relaxing journey ever) over the last few years we’ve become quite experienced in air travelling with kids. The key is to be well prepared and there are some fantastic products out there to help you make your next flight enjoyable and stress free.

Fly Babee

We’ve flown with all four children when they were babies, even with the twins, so we know first hand how tricky it can be to stick to your normal routine and settle your (newborn) baby into a good sleep. The in-flight bassinets are fantastic but unfortunately they are usually located under a brightly lit TV screen, near the frequently visited toilets and next to noisy kitchens so there is a lot of disruption. Invented by one very clever Australian mama the brand new Fly Babee is here to rescue your baby’s (and your own!) sleep:

Fly Babee Storage BagFly Babee (RRP $99.95) is the world’s first sleep-easy cover for airline bassinets, pram carry cots and strollers. The brilliant breathable design blocks out 97% of hindering light, offers UPF 50+ protection against harmful UV rays, protects your child from the looks of well-meaning strangers and reduces your baby’s exposure to nasty germs. It’s compact, portable and light-weight (it weighs just 600 grams!) and the universal fit will make this every mum’s must-have travel accessory.

Fly Babee Pram BagSetting up the Fly Babee is a piece of cake, thanks to the handy pop-up design it unfolds itself automatically and attaches to the in-flight bassinet or pram frame with one simple clip on either side. Returning it to a compact package and back in the included storage bag takes a bit of practice but after a few tries you will have mastered this technique too. The storage bag conveniently attaches to your pram handle with velcro.

Fly Babee Pram CoverThe dome shaped canopy gives your baby plenty of room to move and breathe and you can check up on your sleeping bundle at any time through the super quiet ‘Chance a Glance’ flap. Once the Fly Babee is in place you can easily put your baby in and take baby out via the big zippered openings. Fly Babee is such a fantastic invention, if you are travelling with a baby this Summer you have to put this great Aussie product on your packing list for sure.

Fly Babee ClipsAs the Fly Babee is the world’s first airline bassinet cover it is hard to compare but it also doubles as a pram cover which makes it a great multifunctional product. Compared to many other pram covers it is a lot quicker and easier to use, all it takes is two clips instead of endless ties to do up or press studs to close. It also offers much more room thanks to the dome shape whereas other covers often stretch tightly across the frame leaving little moving space which can be scary for young children.

That's MY Story

As if preparing for Christmas is not enough work as it is many mums also need to get organised for the upcoming school holidays. Six weeks is a long time and whether you are boarding a plane, hitting the road or ‘just’ staying home you will need to keep the kids entertained somehow. If you’re smart you can kill two birds with one stone by choosing presents that the kids will enjoy long after Christmas day, like this fabulous Australian game called That’s MY Story:

Thats-MY-Story

That’s MY Story Card Game ($16.95)

Developed by learning expert and mum of two Melissa That’s MY Story ($16.95, ages 3+) is a simple yet very fun and effective storytelling game that will help children and adults to create the most amazing stories. Most children love listening to and making up their own stories, but many parents (me included) struggle at times to come up with fresh storylines. Time for a little help in the shape of 47 colourful That’s MY Story cards in a handy storage tin.

That's MY Story CardEach That’s MY Story card plays a role in your yet to be invented story: Begin with a Story Starter (eg. Did you ever hear the story of, It all started when…), add in a Character (eg. Doctor, Dinosaur, Fairy, Girl, Policeman), decide on the Setting (eg. School, Shop, Party, Circus), flavour the tale with a ‘Wild’ card (eg. Soccer Ball, Rainbow, Backpack), decide on your ending with the Story Closer card and finish by holding up the Harlequin card to claim ownership of your very own story.

There are so many different cards and the combinations are endless so this is a game that never gets old. The cards feature both pictures and descriptions, so it is also fun for young children who can not yet read and will help those learning to read to connect the words and pictures. Instructions are included and if you are looking for other ways to play with the cards check out these great game suggestions, lots of cool ideas and all with one single pack of cards.

Keep all cards neatly together in the handy storage tin

Keep all cards neatly together in the handy storage tin

The cards pack up neatly together in the That’s MY Story tin making it a perfect game for the car, train, plane or holiday, just pop it in your handbag and pull it out when boredom strikes. Priced at just $16.95 this makes a fun, educational and very affordable Christmas gift that might just save your sanity these school holidays.
