Epson

Brought to you by Nuffnang and Epson

When I think back to my own time in primary school, I remember school yard games and music, plays, arts and crafts, cooking and excursions, but I most certainly don’t remember homework. Times have changed a lot since then and at just 5 and 7 years old our three students, as young as they are, are bringing home homework every day. You’d think they are not too keen on all this studying but to our big surprise they love it! Not only do they finish their homework as soon as they come back from school, they even ask me for more!

Epson EcoTankBack in the day this would have required a trip to the local library and a whole jar of 10 cent coins for the photocopier, luckily these days there are plenty of online resources available. In just a few clicks I can select math sheets, tracing activities, spelling exercises, crafty projects, colouring pages and more to print at home, easy peasy. The only problem with printing-at-home is that the printer always seems to be out of ink right when you need it…

The printing specialists at Epson understand how annoying it is to run out of ink, which is why they have developed the revolutionary Epson EcoTank range. Epson EcoTank printers are designed to fulfil all your printing needs (wireless black & white, colour or photo printing, copying and scanning) and come with up to 2 years worth of ink. You read it right: TWO YEARS of printer ink is included, that means you can set up your new printer, forget all about it and print as you please.

EcoTank Black White

Not only does the EcoTank concept save you the inconvenience of running out of ink and the time and hassle of regularly replacing expensive ink cartridges, it also saves you money in the long run by being able to refill the high capacity ink tanks using great low-cost Epson ink bottles (RRP $16.99). Priced at RRP $449 – $599 an Epson EcoTank printer is a fantastic cost-effective investment for both home and office use.

EcoTank Ink

This week alone we have used our Epson EcoTank Expression ET-2550 (RRP $499) to print extra homework for the twins, colouring pages for miss 3, sight words cards for miss 5, a family photo to take to show-and-tell and passport applications for the whole family; so easy and no more worries about running out of ink half-way or ‘saving’ ink for an emergency. Aside from the refillable tankstation on the side the printer is the same size as a regular printer so you get a lot more value for a little extra space.

EcoTank Photo

For our EcoTank ET-2550 the ‘2 years of ink’ promise is based on an average monthly print volume of about 150 pages or a total of 4,000 pages in black and 6,500 pages in colour. Knowing our prints are such excellent value I will be able to say ‘Yes’ more often when the kids ask me to print them yet another sheet, and I will finally be able to print off all the recipes I have been storing on my computer. Later in the year we’ll be taking the kids out of school for 5 weeks to visit Europe so I’ll be putting the printer to good use then by making each child a personalised holiday-schooling pack, very exciting.

Good to know: As you all know I am a sucker for a generous warranty period, this Epson EcoTank immediately comes with a 12-month Return to Base warranty and by registering your purchase online you receive an additional 12 months bonus warranty. That’s great peace of mind!

Wedding Day

As we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary last week I took a moment to look back at our big day. I had only just moved to Australia and we were busy setting up house (as well as going through an expensive visa application) so we were a bit strapped for cash and planned our wedding on a tight budget. I wore a bargain USD $9 wedding dress, did my own makeup and a girlfriend did my hair, mother-in-law made the cake, an uncle performed the ceremony and that’s just the start. Some might find this a punishment but I actually loved the challenge, you all know how much I love hunting for the best buys!

With lovely Summer weather on the (far) horizon it won’t be long before wedding season kicks off. If you’re tying the knot this year it’s time to get your invitations ordered and in the mail and no, they don’t have to break the bank:

Pre-cut InvitesThe easiest way save on your invites is by making them yourself, it’s not as tricky as it sounds and the internet is full of wonderful pages to get inspiration from. You can grab your invitation paper or pre-cut cards, ribbons, invitation envelopes, seals and other decorations like lace, tape and studs from specialist stores like Paper Warehouse which will save you big bucks compared to ordinary stationery or craft shops.

Paper Warehouse stocks many of the big names in decorative paper e.g. Cristina Re, Paper Craft and Paper Chic at bottom prices so you get the designer look you are after without the designer price tag. Weddings are expensive enough as it is and by going the DIY route you can save some much needed extra cash to spend on other parts of your wedding.

DIY RibbonWe did a lot of our wedding preparations ourselves and while it (obviously) takes a bit more time than having someone else do it for you it is very rewarding and it allows you create something that is 100% you and suits your wedding perfectly. If you get some of your family and girlfriends together to help out it will cut down the workload and it is a great bonding experience, I have fond memories of our evenings spent wrapping wedding favours and writing envelopes.

ElmiraIf you have a very large wedding party, are running out of time or are simply not a crafty person and prefer to let the experts do the hard work you can find an affordable range of pre-made wedding invitations at Invitation House. There are some really lovely styles to choose from: gold or silver, earthy tones or black and white, beautiful elegant wedding invitations or pretty beach wedding invitations, it’s up to you! Prices depend on the options and extras you choose, DIY packages are available for those wanting to save even more.

Happy wedding planning!

Crayola

When you have four kids who all love drawing and colouring it’s easy to go through big piles of paper every week, a costly and not so eco-friendly business. Of course we always make the kids use the other side of the paper but the simple truth is that you can only turn the sheet over once. If you have a few little artists at home too and encounter the same problem you are sure to love this clever product by Crayola:

The Crayola Doodle Magic Color Mat Pack ($29.99, ages 3+) consists of 7 items: 4 doodle markers, 1 colour eraser and 1 wipe cloth packed neatly together and stored in the Doodle Magic Color Mat. Forget about small A4 sheets, the generously sized Doodle Magic Color Mat (60 x 90 cm) offers a world of drawing space, there is plenty of room for siblings or friends to draw, colour and create together. Pop it on the table or the ground, hang it on a door or wall and let your imagination do the rest.

Crayola Doodle Magic Color Mat Pack

Using the four doodle markers little artists can create a drawing or play a game on the large white surface, once they’re done or there is no drawing space left it’s time for some Doodle Magic. It’s hard to believe but the magic ingredient is actually simple H2O, also known as ordinary tap water! The colours of the doodle markers can be removed with the included colour eraser which is filled with water, just rub off the colour, wipe clean with the cloth and you’ve got a clean surface again.

Crayola Doodle Magic Mat

I love the portable design of the Doodle Magic Color Mat: just roll up, close the straps and go! Kids can take it from room to room, on holiday or when visiting Grandma and the entertainment is endless. Being a reusable product it is much more eco friendly than paper and as the colours can be removed by water (on most surfaces) you won’t need soap or harsh chemicals to clean any marks. Priced under $30 I think it’s a very affordable product too, keep it in mind for your next birthday or Christmas shopping.

Crayola

With our big holiday rapidly coming closer I have started packing the kids’ backpacks with a good dose of ‘in-flight entertainment’ to help get us through our very long flight to The Netherlands. New books, toys, their LeapPads and of course a huge selection of craft activities, I hope I have got enough to keep our little tribe happy! I first discovered the awesome Crayola Color Wonder range last year and have been looking out for it in store ever since so I was very excited to see lots of new designs being released this year, just in time for our holiday:

Color Wonder GlitterCrayola Color Wonder (ages 3+) is fun, exciting and sure to be a winner with both little artists and their parents. Kids love using the Color Wonder markers on the special Color Wonder Paper and watch colours and details magically appear on their colouring in page. At the same time mum will give this great range the thumbs up because the Color Wonder markers only work on the Color Wonder paper. No unwelcome marks on clothes, hands, face or furniture and perfect for holidays and trips.

Color Wonder MetallicIt’s classic colouring in with a modern, magical twist, my kids are so intrigued by how the colourless markers manage to add colour to their drawing. Where my children often leave a drawing unfinished because they have lost interest I am yet to find a Color Wonder Paper that is not finished up to the last cm², I guess that says a lot about the popularity of Color Wonder in our house!

As well as the original Crayola Color Wonder kits there are now two fabulous new editions available: Crayola Color Wonder Glitter Pages and Crayola Color Wonder Metallic Pages. Girls will go absolutely crazy for the sparkling Disney Princess pages and boys (even those not so keen on art and craft) will think the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles designs are totally awesome. Keep an eye out for them in stores because they’ll make a great affordable gift for your next birthday party.

Crayola Color Wonder

Crayola Color WonderThere are many different themes available in the Color Wonder range featuring popular characters like Disney Princesses, Planes, Barbie, Dora, Jake and the Neverland Pirates and more, there is a theme for everyone and new styles are being added throughout the year. Each pack comes with a selection of Color Wonder Paper colouring in pages (12-18 sheets per pack) and a set of Color Wonder markers (3 or 5 markers per pack) so there are plenty of supplies for siblings or friends to share.

If you had told me two years ago I would ever write about poo and hip in the same sentence I don’t think I would have believed you. But here I am and for once I don’t mind talking about this smelly topic, in fact I am really excited about it. Of course this is not about your ordinary, baby size poo in a nappy, instead it is about a big 100kg heap of poo which is the daily output of an adult Sri Lankan elephant. So what exactly is so hip about elephant poo?

Recently Import Ants has managed to bring the fun and eco-friendly Maximus Elephant Paper products to Australia, a concept that will no doubt appeal to eco-conscious Australians of all ages. Maximus Elephant Paper is 100% recycled paper made in Sri Lanka using elephant dung (poo) which is dried, heated to kill bacteria, mixed, dyed with salt dyes and turned into sheets of paper.

Isn’t it incredible that high quality paper can be made from just a waste product, removing the need to cut down trees or add chemicals or acids? Now that is what we call eco friendly paper! By using Maximus Elephant Paper you are not only saving trees, you are also doing your part for the care of the endangered Sri Lankan elephant as a percentage of sale proceeds go to a Sri Lankan elephant orphanage.

The paper is used for all kinds of different products in a range of shapes, sizes and colours: from regular paper and envelopes to notepads and journals, from photoalbums to gift cards and even a special Kids collection. If you thought paper made of elephant poo is boring you really need to check out Import Ants! The message behind these products is great and it is good for kids to know they are making a difference to the environment.

Part of the Kids collection is this fantastic Eco Max Craft-a-Card Kit ($26.50), which contains all kids need to create custom made cards from Maximus Elephant Paper. With a range of supplies like coloured cards, envelopes with stickers, animal shapes, coloured sheets of paper and 8 beautiful oil pastels there are lots of ways for children to use their imagination. The kit is available in a ‘Night’ and ‘Day’ design, each contains different animals to suit the theme.
