Vintage & Nostalgia Co.

One of the things I love about going back to The Netherlands is being able to show the kids where I used to live, where I went to school and what toys I used to play with. My lovely parents have held onto many of our childhood toys so now our children can enjoy our extensive Care Bears, Playmobil, Pinypon and Dufti collections all over again.

Klorofil Magic Tree House

Old school fun revival

While modern toys can be good fun I will always have a soft spot for decent, old school toys and games that I remember from my childhood. Board games, marbles, skipping, they were great fun then and I think our kids will love them just as much, we just need to teach them!

Elastics from Skipping Pebbles

Elastics from Skipping Pebbles

ElasticsI have been hunting for the traditional ‘elastics’ for a while so I was thrilled to find them at Skipping Pebbles. Not only can you purchase the gorgeous red and pink elastics online for just $14.95 each, you can also brush up on your moves and tricks knowledge on the website. If you need a bit of extra help try your luck on YouTube, it is so much fun to watch. After reading up I am pretty keen to give it a shot again myself. Having fun with the kids and exercising at the same time, double win.

Hopscotch Mat

Hopscotch Mat from Little Me Little You

Another childhood favourite is hop scotch, something I recently introduced to my girls. All you need is a piece of chalk and a bit of space on your driveway and off you go. Or you can play the deluxe version with this stylish Hopscotch Mat from Little Me Little You. Made from felt you can use the mat inside and outside and when you’re done you can just fold it away.

Shopping List Game from IQ Toys

Shopping List Game from IQ Toys

Shopping List Booster PackFor the little ones you can never go wrong with a game of lotto/bingo. There are many versions of this game around but at our house we often play the Shopping List Game by Orchard Toys. Every child gets a trolley and a shopping list and the person to first fill a trolley with everything on his/her list is the winner. To make it a little harder I sometimes describe the groceries as opposed to just naming them and the kids love taking turns being the game leader. Booster packs are available to allow for more players.

Go on, pick your memory and rediscover your favourite childhood games with your kids. I can guarantee you that they (and you!) will love it!
