It has been a bit of a wait but we’ve finally spotted a tooth! Even though she can’t do much biting yet baby Sybil happily chews and chomps on any food we put in front of her. From purees to mash and now soft lumps, it won’t be long until she can join in with the big kids at the dinner table. Dinner time is usually rather busy for our big family so I save myself some time by preparing the baby meals once a week and store them in the freezer:
Five months ago this was the first batch of baby food I made and since then the handy Annabel Karmel by NUK range has had quite the workout at our house. Child nutrition expert Annabel Karmel is known all around the world for her best-selling children’s cookbooks and now she has teamed up with the clever team at NUK Australia to create an innovative range of BPA free baby equipment perfect for modern Aussie families.
When I prepare our baby food I usually fill up the Freezer Tray With Lid first. This food cube tray has enough room for nine 30ml portions, a great size for little ones just starting on solids. As your baby grows and starts eating bigger meals you can put together a mixed meal, eg. one cube of potato, one cube of carrot and one cube of fruit for dessert. The lid clips on tight and creates a flat surface, making it easy to stack in the freezer.
At dinner time I just pop out one or more of the cubes (they come out easily) and warm it up ready to be eaten. The freezer tray is dishwasher safe so cleaning up is hassle free. For going out I use one of the six Stackable Cubes, each pack contains 2x 50ml, 2x 73ml and 2x 100ml containers. These colourful cubes are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe, so when you are visiting friends of family you can just quickly warm your baby’s meal without needing a separate bowl (all you need is a spoon).
I generally make larger batches with my Beaba Babycook but even with a freezer full of baby meals there are times when you just want to make a fast, single meal or snack. The Food Masher and Bowl set is easy to use, fool proof (easy for dads, grandparents and babysitters) and you can use it anywhere and anytime. I often end up grabbing this to quickly mash up a serve of fresh fruit or to make our own ‘grown up’ meal baby friendly.
The last product in the range is the Mini Ice Lolly Set, it looks absolutely adorable and it’s perfect for warm summer days (we have plenty of those here in Australia). I have only just started using this as baby has to be a little bit bigger (ca. 9 months+) to be able to hold the ice lollies. Fill the moulds with your child’s favouirte fresh fruit or yoghurt, pop in the freezer, and the next day you have healthy miniature ice blocks that are super tasty and great for sore gums.
