Yellow Pages

Brought to you by Yellow Pages and Nuffnang

At the start of a brand new year I am always excited, as if flipping over that page on my calendar magically opens up a world of new opportunities. When I see the words New Year I think of new plans, new chances, thinking positive, determination and getting your priorities straight. As a busy mum of four, I have noticed it is easy to get swallowed up by the day-to-day life of looking after the kids, running a household, doing paperwork and writing my blog. I have concluded that I want this year to be different. I want 2015 to be MY year.

CalendarIt appears I am not the only one who sees the New Year as the start of something fresh. With people all over Australia ready to make a change, Yellow Pages records more searches in January than any other month of the year. Even though 88% of New Year resolutions are abandoned before the end of the year it is obvious there are plenty of Aussies keen to get their life, look, home or job sorted using Yellow Pages as their starting point to find the products and services they need to achieve their goals.

You all know how much I love lists. Research has shown my three New Year resolutions are in line with what many Australians, and specifically South Australians, search for on Yellow Pages at the start of the New Year. Here are my top three:

1. Become a fitter, healthier version of me

Long time readers of Hip Little One will remember that losing weight was last year’s New Year resolution. The effect of my healthy eating and more active lifestyle is obvious and the results speak for themselves. This year, I want to raise my fitness game. I am looking at joining a gym or even hiring a local personal trainer to help me and keep me motivated throughout the year.

My first goal – to fit into this beautiful skinny jeans!

Did you know? With more than 10,500 searches online on Yellow Pages for health and fitness, chiropractors and podiatrists, January is clearly a popular month for people wanting to reclaim their health, including me.

2. Spend more quality time with my hubby

After eight years of marriage I am still madly in love with my husband, but now that we have four young children it is not that easy to schedule quality time for the two of us. With a small budget and no family to babysit, we may not be able to go out but a relaxing (and slightly naughty) take-away dinner in and a good movie is fun too and there are no dishes to do afterwards.

Relationships are worth investing in so make sure you make room in your agenda for a date night every now and then, even if it is just take away!

Did you know? In January there are 100% more searches on Yellow Pages for South Australian take-away shops compared to the annual state average.

3. Work up the courage to get a fresh new haircut

Start with a change in 2015 and go for the chop! As you may know I am the boring owner of a plain and simple long blonde hairstyle, nothing fancy or eye catching just practical and easy. Twice a year I go to the hairdresser and come well prepared with some pretty pictures of gorgeous, trendy hairstyles, only to chicken out at the last minute and walk out with the same old hairstyle. I am determined to finally get the chop this year (just don’t ask me when!). What haircut would you get if you had the guts? Drop me a comment below, I would love to see your hair inspiration.

Did you know? On Yellow Pages in January there are a massive 20,500 searches for hairdressers with South Australia recording 99% more searches for hairdressers in January than the rest of the country.

The Body Shop at Home

As you may have read I attended the Adelaide PBC Expo last weekend and had a fabulous time. As I wandered the aisles and looked around me I saw the obvious (a whole heap of exciting products to tell you about) but even more so I saw mothers and women proudly representing their businesses, sharing their dreams and showing off their hard work. It confirmed something that I sneakily already knew:

We mums are an amazingly talented bunch of multitasking people!

As a mum who works from home I know how hard it is to juggle it all and for most of us there are no yummy businesses lunches, hard working secretaries keeping track of your diary, fancy business suits, nice make up and relaxing Friday night drinks with your colleagues. The hard truth is that many of us work-at-home-mums do a lot of it in between dirty nappies and sticky dishes, in our pyjamas, at night once we’ve finally put the kids in bed and really all we want to do is hang on the couch, while settling endless kids’ arguments and without talking to a grown-up all day long.

The Body Shop Gift PackUnless of course you are a The Body Shop At Home consultant, the more I think about it the more awesome that job sounds to me. You get to decide on your own hours, work with an amazing product range that everyone knows and loves (and that smells a lot nicer than stinky nappies!), you get to talk to lots of lovely mums often while enjoying a nice drink or two, meet up with other consultants and at the end of all that you get to take home a pay packet.

The Body Shop Pamper PackIf you are a friendly, social mama looking for a new challenge The Body Shop At Home could be the job opportunity you are looking for. Of course it is important to know all about what you’re signing up for and what better way to do this than by going ‘undercover’ and booking a The Body Shop At Home party for yourself and a few friends. You get to experience your very own pamper party (Go on, you deserve it!) and you can see first hand what the job entails.

This smooth April host offer is sure to get you excited:
Host a party in April and you can have the opportunity to enjoy incredible, softening moisture with a sensational scent. Dryness is locked out and moisture is locked in for skin that feels super-soft, ultra-smooth and totally-touchable. With a high concentration of antioxidants, Brazil nut oil is a skin saviour. Aside from soft, well hydrated skin you could also take home (of course you’re already home!) a special The Body Shop Brazil Nut pack (RRP $80.75) for the bargain price of just $20.

The Body Shop at Home

With a new year just started and the kids going back to school this week it is the perfect time to make up the balance. December and January are not only busy but also very expensive months: Christmas, New Year, holidays, special treats and fun outings, school shoes, uniforms, school fees, it all adds up. As a stay-at-home mum I totally get the worry of a stash of bills, it can be a real burden when you are a one-income family and I know many mums feels the same.

Feet FantasyBeing at home with my children means a lot to me but it does come at a price and I’ll be the first to admit that an extra income (even if small) would be very welcome. Whether it is to pay for necessities, to be able to afford a little luxury or maybe to do something ‘just for you’, so many mothers are looking for that perfect flexible job that they can combine with the hustle and bustle of family life.

Since starting Hip little one I have come to know what it feels like to do something I enjoy, am good at, brings me in contact with other people, stretches my boundaries and makes me strive and add a few extra dollars to the family budget every now and then and it feels AWESOME. If your new year resolution is to make a change and start a new job you might want to check out this offer from The Body Shop at Home:

If living and eating healthier is one of your New Year resolutions (it is for many!) you are probably feeling very excited and motivated right now, just a few more days until the start of a new, healthier you. The first days, weeks or months might be relatively easy but for most people it gets harder after a while, get yourself in a good habit from the beginning by learning all about which foods are good for you so you always have healthy options to choose from. You can find out all about these superfoods in the awesome new book Supercharged Food by Lee Holmes.

You might know Australian author Lee Holmes from her regular column in the WellBeing magazine or her articles on Miranda Kerr’s Kora Organics blog. Maybe you have already discovered her own website www.superchargedfood.com, the perfect place for people to learn all about healthy foods (and which ones to avoid), explore recipes and to find all the tools you need to look after yourself the best possible way. In her new book Supercharged Food Lee shares more than 90 delicious recipes that are healthy, nutritious, elegant, easy to make, boost your immunity and will provide you with refreshed energy.

If you could use some food guidance and are ready for a positive change in your diet this book might just become your food bible. With 192 pages of recipes, accompanied by beautiful full colour photographs and background information there is sure to be a mouthwatering meal to everyone’s taste, even changing just a few of your ordinary meals or snacks for a healthy supercharged alternative will do you well!

Supercharged Food is a real eye opener for anyone who thinks that eating healthy or dealing with allergies rules out all yummy food. These days many children (and adults) suffer from food allergies and it can be hard to adjust to the new diet and to come up with meals that appeal to everyone. All the recipes in Supercharged Food are gluten, wheat, dairy, yeast and sugar-free so everyone can join in!

What I love about this book is that it contains a bit of everything, it covers your whole day from breakfast, lunch and dinner to desserts, drinks, snacks and much more. I was surprised by how achievable the recipes were with ingredients the whole family can enjoy (not just fancy grownup food). I have added many of the dishes to our family menu but some absolute toppers are spinach toast and aromatic herb & garlic crackers.

To find out more about Lee, to learn how food can change your life for the better and to order Supercharged Food (published by Murdoch Books, $34.99) online visit www.superchargedfood.com.
