Selling beautiful clothing is one thing but designing it yourself is a whole other story. Even if you have all the ideas in your head there is a lot to be done before your clothing can be found on the shelves and in the shop windows. One mum who made her dream of designing her own range of children’s clothing come true is Bree from MiniFin.

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
Jog, coffee, paper, tv, break from the kids!

Why did you start MiniFin?
I had worked in the industry as a buyer and had spent some time in China working with factories. When I had my 1st child I started shopping in kids boutiques and saw tees for $40 plus. I knew I could make the same tees and retail them for $15. So I did! I really wanted to shop at the boutiques instead of at the majors – but I think price point is a problem at boutiques.

What do you love most about running MiniFin?
I love when product sells! I don’t so much like the sales side of things (as I’m a bad sales person!)- but I love seeing a customer or shop owner that loves my product and re-orders as it has been popular. That it what motivates me. I also love when I randomly see a child wearing MiniFin.

What is your favourite item from the new range?
I love the girls yoga pants the best from the new winter range. The best seller though has been the boys truck long sleeve tee.

How do you see MiniFin in five years?
I’d love to be doing ranges of about 40+ pieces per season. I’d also love to branch out into PJ’s, hats, bibs etc. My Summer 2012 range has been extended up to a size 6, and I’d love to go higher and tap into the teenage market as I think there is a big niche there. I just need to wait until my children grow to be able to understand the teenage market.

Get your children’s wardrobe summer ready with the brand new MiniFin summer range. Once again you can choose from a range of mix and match items in colours that are easy to combine, with prints that kids will love and made of high quality fabrics that really last. And did I mention the very pleasant price tags? Prices start at just $9.95 and you won’t pay more than $18.95 for a great MiniFin piece.

I am sure this MiniFin Helicopter Singlet ($9.95) will be a real hit with little boys, I know my son can’t wait for the warmer weather because he keeps asking me if he can wear his. And I am thrilled with it too because the classic navy blue colour won’t show all the dirty marks he will make on it in no time. If only he hadn’t grown so much the past year he could still wear his MiniFin clothes from last summer because even though I have washed them many times they still look brilliant (both fabric and shape).

The singlet can be teamed up with any of the five shorts or pants styles, but my favourite design would have to be the stripe boys shorts ($18.95). They are soft and stretchy and made with cotton/elastane to ensure a comfortable fit for active boys. A great choice for warm summer days, either with a singlet or t-shirt. By popular demand the size range has been extended so the latest MiniFin collection is now available in sizes 000-4.

I really love navy for both boys and girls so I was excited to see similar stripe girls shorts ($18.95). Last year the twins looked just gorgeous both dressed in MiniFin and I am sure they will this year too. The shorts are finished with a raspberry coloured trim which matches the new summer t-shirts and singlets. Birds, strawberries, butterflies, they are all girls favourites so I think MiniFin is onto another winner here with the new prints.
