A few weeks ago we moved our twins into another bedroom and put up a bunkbed, something they had been asking for for a long time. Of course they were very excited about the bed but my daughter especially loved her new decorative cushion, such an easy way to brighten up the bed! My son was very sad he didn’t get one, maybe I should get him one of these cool Go Home Junior cushions from Little Obsessions?

These funky pillows ($34.95) are a perfect addition to a kids bedroom, playroom or any other little hiding place where your child likes to sit down and relax. They are part of the My Escape range, full of stylish homewares for hip kids who like using their imagination. I know my kids would come up with endless stories using these cushions as props, the designs may be simple but that makes them super versatile for storybuilding.

Also part of the range are these gorgeous My Escape Tree Bookcases ($59.95), what a lovely way to store and display your child’s favourite books. There is room for ca. 20 books of different sizes, make sure you keep this lovely bookcase away from the bed or the kids will never go to sleep! The bookcase is made of high quality birch plywood and measures 34cm, there is also a very cute red toadstool design available.

If you love the My Escape cushions as much as I do make sure you hop over to the Little Obsessions blog, this month they are giving away THREE of these beautiful babies to one lucky entrant. Now how’s that for a cool prize?

Sunday Coffee with Little Obsessions

Gift shopping for kids can be really tricky which is why Australian mum Lisa came up with her online gift store Little Obsessions. I absolutely love this store and the concept works very well, simply browse by your child’s favourite topic (fairies, cars, dinosaurs, ponies and much more) to find the perfect gift. So who is the clever lady behind this lovely store? Meet Lisa in today’s Sunday Coffee.

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
My ideal Sunday is definitely hanging out with my family and having a bit of a craftanoon. None of us are particularly talented but we all love making a mess!

If the weather is nice we also like to head outside for a bushwalk. The kids love to spot wildlife and there are heaps of kangaroos where we live so we can usually get lucky.

Why did you start Little Obsessions?
The idea for Little Obsessions all started when my eldest boy became completely obsessed with dinosaurs. He was two at the time and he is now 6 years old and is just as obsessed as ever. I had trouble finding dinosaur themed gifts for him and I thought it would be very handy if there was a store where you could go to find gifts to satisfy those little obsessions that kids often have. My middle boy is now obsessed with pirates and my youngest is a big fan of animals.

I like to choose quality products for the store that will last and keep kids busy for long periods of time (or at least long enough to sneak in a cuppa). As a result, we have lots of art and craft inspired gifts as well as puzzles and lots of toys that encourage interaction and creativity such as construction toys and toys that promote pretend play.

What is your favourite Little Obsessions product?
This is such a tough question! I love all the wooden magnetic vehicles and dinosaurs by Edtoy for my boys but I have to admit that I’m dying to try out myself some of the Djeco art sets like the Bright Animals Gouaches painting set.

What can we expect from Little Obsessions in the near future?
More new goodies and more product videos to make choosing the perfect toy online so much easier.

What is your best travel toy tip?
For the younger kiddies Tiger Tribe have a great range of travel friendly toys such as magnetic playbooks. For the older kids the Thinkfun games are great and some can be played by one player which is handy. The Galt Water Magic Paint Books are also one of our most popular products and are very handy for colouring in while on the go. And for my kids, anything involving stickers is a winner!

Inside fun with Makedo

There really is no escaping the cold weather now and it is going to be tricky to find something to entertain the kids inside with for the next few months. Like most other kids my twins enjoy drawing, playing with playdoh or doing a puzzle and they always love building things. I have learnt that everyday items can make the best building tools so I try to keep a stack of cardboard boxes and empty containers on hand for building activities. Don’t worry, you don’t need messy glue or sticky tape, just grab a Makedo kit from Little Obsessions and your kids can start creating too!

There are lots of different Makedo sets available to create anything from small one-child project like planes, flowers, robots and animals to super cool big projects like a shop, playhouse, car and more. The Makedo connector system lets you use ordinary items from around the home and connect them to eachother using reusable clips and hinges. You’ll be surprised at all the awesome things you can make, once you start you’ll find that there are lots of things you can recycle.

Makedo kits are very well priced, starting at $6.95 they make really affordable gifts especially when you consider the reusable aspect of it. There are so many options with a handful of Makedo basics, it is a great way for kids to learn to use their imagination and come up with creative solutions. And of course it is also a perfect opportunity to teach them about waste, recycling and looking after the environment, double win!

Designed for children aged 5 and up the Makedo range is great for older children, both girls and boys, because there is nothing girly about being an ‘inventor’ is there? Little ones can enjoy Makedo too but they would need some help and supervision from an adult, you don’t have to worry about cutting accidents when shaping the cardboard as a special ‘safe-saw’ is included. A Makedo project will keep kids busy for ages and once finished just store the pieces for your next Makedo creation.

We all know Easter bunnies and chickens are cute, but you have to admit they are even cuter if they come with a whole farm! The Creanimaux Farm Blocks set by French brand Djeco  is a delightful, and much more durable, take on the ordinary chocolate Easter gift that is is sure to be appreciated by the little ones (and not just at Easter time). This gorgeous set is available at Little Obsessions and contains 29 colourful wooden blocks in different shapes and sizes. You can use them to build a bunny, chicken, pig, dog, cow or horse or use your imagination and create your very own quirky animals.

There is lots of fun to be had with these great blocks, kids can learn about the different animals that live on a farm, their names and the sounds they make, colours, shapes and counting and of course stacking them is a brilliant exercise for their fine motor skills. Wooden toys are always a winner as they are sturdy and strong and can be enjoyed by multiple generations. The Djeco Creanimaux Farm Blocks are suitable for kids aged 2 years and up.
