With just 11 days until the first day of school we are making the most of the school holidays. Arts and crafts, baking treats, playgrounds, bus trips and fun outings, we’re making this last week count! It is also a great opportunity to give our new school gear a little test-run before the big day, yummy picnic coming up:

Decor Lunch Break

Australian homeware specialist Décor has got meals on-the-go covered with a fresh new Back to School range. From small snacks to luscious lunches, from tasty treats to delicious dinners and even thirst quenching drinks, Décor keeps them fresh all day.

Lunch Break Decor

The colourful Lunch Break System is perfect for our big family, it allows me to pack a personalised, homemade lunch for each child to suit their taste, day and meal size perfectly. Featuring a range of Realseal boxes in different sizes and shapes it feels a bit like a fun game of tetris, but the end result is a well-filled lunchbox that will provide my little students with all the energy they need for a big school day.

Decor Lunch Bags

Don’t you hate it when your child’s healthy yoghurt spills into their backpack or when salad dressing runs over homework or expensive school books? As the name suggests each Realseal container features a unique seal in the lid making the container instantly airtight and leakproof, yay for no more mess! And that’s not all, the containers are also microwave-safe, freezer-safe, dishwasher-safe and of course free from nasty BPA.

Realseal Cutlery SetLunch Break boxes are available in 125ml, 300ml, 650ml and 1L sizes and come in four bright colours that kids will love and are quick to recognise for mother and child (our school-aged kids can each have their own colour, no more mix-ups and arguments). Packing a serve of yoghurt, custard, pasta or salad? There is even a matching carry case with Realseal Cutlery Set available, how handy.

Insulated Cooler bagThe Realseal Compact 2 Insulated Cooler (smaller lunches) and Insulated Cooler Bag (bigger lunches) are specifically designed to keep all your little Realseal boxes neatly together and cool as a cucumber using an Icewall. I find the Compact 2 the perfect size for our children (aged 7 and under). Both styles are durable, easy to clean and free from BPA, Phthalates, Lead and PVC for lunches that are tasty, fresh and safe.

The Décor Lunch Break range is currently available at Spotlight, Howards Storage World and independent supermarkets across Australia.

Since baby Sybil was born I have regularly shared our experiences with the fabulous Tommee Tippee Miomee breast and bottle feeding range. I know it has been a while since my last update but don’t worry, we are still feeding her! In just two weeks time she will be six months old and so our feeding journey continues as we start solids. Here are our last Tomme Tippee breast and bottle feeding finds before we move on to ‘real’ food, wish me luck!

Tommee Tippee Bottle and Food Warmer

Of course when you are breastfeeding the temperature of your baby’s milk is always spot on (handy!) but if you are feeding your baby formula or expressed breast milk like I do there is a little bit more involved. The Tommee Tippee Bottle and Food Warmer ($69.95) takes the guess out of warming your little one’s milk or baby food as it always heats it up to the right temperature, one less thing for you to stress about.

The Bottle and Food Warmer is super easy to use, I love it. Simply check how much milk you are warming up, select that amount on the measuring cup and add the water to the warmer and also select the same amount on the easy-to-read dial, easy as pie. If you always feed the same amount you can add the water before hand so that in the middle of the night you only need to turn the dial. The warmer will turn off automatically which is a great feature, it would be easy to forget to turn it off when you are tired and all you want to do is sleep. It takes less than 3 minutes for an ordinary 240ml bottle of milk at room temperature to be heated up, now that’s what I call quick.

Tommee Tippee Bottle and Teat BrushUnfortunately when you are bottle feeding there is bit of cleaning involved after each feed. First you need to give the bottles a good clean with the Tommee Tippee Bottle and Teat Brush ($7.95), the brush features rounded corners that allow for a thorough clean of even the smallest corners and ridges and of course it is free from BPA. While I do sometimes leave the sterilising until the morning I make sure I do the brush clean straight away, saves you scrubbing the next day!

Tommee Tippee Microwave SteriliserThankfully sterilising bottles is not as hard and time consuming as it used to be when it involved boiling water on the stove. The Tommee Tippee Microwave Steriliser ($39.95) does the hard work for you, in just 8 minutes it will sterilise 4 bottles, lids, screw rings and teats for you without fuss. It is not only a practical but also a very safe design with enclosed tongs for easy removal of hot pieces and easy hold handles on both sides of the unit.

Miomee Insulated Bottle BagWhen out and about it can be tricky to find a place to warm your bottles, as if you don’t have enough to worry about when you go out with your brand new baby. To help you feed your little one on the go the Miomee Insulated Bottle Bag ($22.95) keeps your bottle of water warm (or cool) for up to 8 hours, that’s pretty much a whole day out. The sturdy, hardwearing bag offers great protection and you can easily attach it to your pram/bag or carry it with the carry handle. Fits two 150ml bottles or one 270ml/340ml bottle and a formula container.

On school days our mornings are always busy, with four children under five there is a lot to be done and they still need help with most things. Getting dressed, brushing teeth, quickly organise breakfast, lunch and snack, then refill the water bottles and off we go. It is easy to forget to actually check the drink bottles for cleanliness but I highly recommend you do take a closer look next time you fill up…

Munch Drink Bottles

Many bottles have little ridges or small gaps and are made of porous materials which make perfect hiding spots for bacteria. Even if your children just drink water there will still be nasties that find their way in and in turn they float straight into your child’s mouth, eek!! Munch Stainless Steel Drink Bottles are both clean and safe, free from toxins and BPA and made with high quality 18/8 food-grade brushed stainless steel.

Munch Drink BottlesStainless steel is known to be a very hygenic material choice, it is easy to clean and it leaves your drink tasting fresh without retaining odours. By choosing a Munch reusable and recyclable bottle instead of single use fruit boxes or plastic bottles you are also doing your share for the environment. Munch bottles ($9.90-$15.40) are available in 350ml, 500ml and 800ml size, so from little tots all the way up to thirsty dads they have got the whole family covered.

Munch Sippy SpoutRaising kids is expensive enough as it is so parents will be pleased to know that Munch bottles are a great investment. There are five different Munch Bottle Lids ($3.30-$4.40) to choose from and as your child grows you can simply replace the lid instead of the whole bottle. Starting with a sippy spout for the youngest ones up to a more grown up flat cap or sport cap, you get to choose the type of lid that comes with your new bottle and spare lids are available in store.

Munch Insulated CoverTo protect your shiny new bottle and to make sure your drink stays at the right temperature you can slip on one of the Munch Neoprene Insulated Covers ($6.60-$9.90). These padded, washable little ‘jackets’ are available in a range of prints and colours to suit young and old and are fitted with a handy clip so your child’s bottle can stay attached to backpack or belt. Nice bonus: These clever covers also keep condensation away from school books and clothes.

As a regular reader of Hip little one you know by now that Australian label gr8x makes beautiful baby bags for hip mums, but have you checked out the rest of the range too? There are the famous gr8x single and double stretch wraps which are available in a range of beautiful colours and prints, as well some stylish accessories to take with you in your nappy bag like change mats and bottle travellers. The latest additions to the accessory range are the Arizona Bottle Pack and Change Wallet.

The Arizona Change Wallet is designed to replace the need for a regular nappy bag, offering a compact and convenient way to go out and about with baby. Because let’s be honest, most days there is nothing you need from your nappy bag but a nappy and some wipes! That is exactly what you can fit in the Arizona Change Wallet: some nappies and a travel pack of wipes. Just hang it from your pram and when change time comes simply fold it open to reveal a generous size change mat. So easy!

The Arizona Bottle Pack features an insulated compartment big enough to keep 3-4 bottles or food containers cool or warm, just the right amount for a day out. Aside from the insulated storage the Bottle Pack is also fitted with mesh pockets to store small items so you can really keep your hands free. You can choose to carry the pack on your shoulder (shoulder strap is adjustable) or simply attach it to your pram.

Both styles are available in store right now and cost $34.95 each. As you can see the gr8x team has chosen for a retro print in black and orange, unisex colours that are suitable for baby girls and boys and dad doesn’t have to embarrassed either. If these colours tickle your fancy but you prefer the extra space of a regular nappy bag you might want to check out the Madison Hobo Taupe nappy bag (one of my personal favourites).

To find out more about gr8x, to browse the range and to order your favourite go to or visit a retailer near you.
