After a very long and exhausting plane trip we finally made it back to Australia on Saturday morning. Previously we have always come back in summertime and were warmly welcomed by the dry, hot Adelaide weather and bright sun, this time we were unpleasantly surprised by the freezing winter cold. I can not believe how cold it is this year, the only thing missing is snow and frost on the windows! Of course the chances of outdoor snow and ice are still pretty slim here in Australia but luckily there is always the Medibank Icehouse in Melbourne to get your winterspirit up.

It is a shame we are not in Melbourne because I would most certainly take my three to experience the joy of ice skating. As a child I very much enjoyed ice skating in winter time and we couldn’t wait for the local lakes and streams to freeze over. I have very fond memories of skating with family and friends, the crunchy sound of the ice under the sledges and skates and hot chocolate afterwards to warm us up.

You can create your family’s very own winter memories too by visiting the Medibank Icehouse for some fun in the cold, there are loads of options available. From a playful skate intro for the wobbly little ones up to real figure skating, a game of ice hockey or disco skating, speed skating or birthday parties, there are classes and free skating times to suit everyone. Obviously skate hire can be organised on the spot so there is nothing to stop you from trying your stability on the ice.
