Little Bubba: Makeover Time

Of course Teddy is not the only sibling who refuses to sit still. My girls are always looking for a willing customer to attempt a pretty braid, do a fancy fishtail plait or try out a new look but it turns out that it’s a lot more fun to be the stylist than the bored customer who is not allowed to move or cries with every stroke of the brush. Keeping all of my budding hairdressers and make-up artists happy has turned out to be a breeze with this cute find from Little Bubba:

Measuring a generous 27cm tall this life-size My Big Sister ‘Styling Head’ (Ages 3+, 10,6″) is the ideal client for any hairdressing or beauty bar, she is always happy to receive a fresh makeover, doesn’t wiggle and never complains when things look a little wonky. With her long blonde hair, big blue eyes and perfect skin this lovely model is a clean canvas waiting for a dedicated artist to give her a brand new look, you can change her style as many times as you like!

To help you set up your own salon the Styling Head comes with a whole heap of beauty and hair accessories: 6 royal crown hair clips, a heart-shaped brush, a pink hair comb, four rollers for gorgeous curls, face stickers and a make-up palette with lip, cheek and eye make-up in different shades.  The set contains everything to get you started, just use your imagination.

Miss 11 is our resident hairdresser and miss 9 is our wannabe make-up artist, so together they have a ball getting this blonde model looking magazine worthy. In our house it is most definitely the older girls who adore this styling kit most, the younger girls like it too but the older two are a bit better at the delicate application of make-up and have patience for the step-by-step process of tricky hair styles. A quick rinse with a baby wipe removes all the makeup, there are no stains and it washes off easily from hands and clothing too.

One small note: While the box does list all the make-up ingredients on the bottom, it does clearly say ‘for external application on dolls only’ so I am not sure how suitable it is for human skin. I have specifically instructed my girls not to apply it to their own skin but I can imagine some children will be keen to give themselves a makeover which may cause an allergic reaction.

HairDooz: Find your new Spring Doo

Spring is finally here and we are so excited about the warmer weather! After having been cooped up inside during the dark, rainy months we are soaking up the sunshine and heading outside when we can. The new season calls for a fresh look and stylish do and going by the brand new HairDooz range bold and bright is the way to go:

Featuring twelve cool new dooz in the prettiest of neon shades the new HairDooz Neonz are definitely eye-catching. Pixie, Sparkle, Crystal, Lilly, Skye or Candy… who will you find in your swivelling salon chair today? Twist the bottle door to unveal your latest client and check out her fresh spring look and sniff her frooty scent. Even the bottle has had a colour makeover and is now a funky neon orange!

While true collectors will no doubt be on the lookout for the rare ‘Glow in the Dark’ treasure (a party ready doll with a festive Braidy Updoo), we actually lost our heart to Wavy Rave Doo with her long, luscious locks in blue, pink and yellow. Securely seated on her salon seat you can store your Doo bestie in her bottle, display it on a shelf/cupboard or use the suction cup to create a floating chair for your mirror or a window.

There are twelve gorgeous HairDooz Neonz to collect and you can find the range at your local Kmart, Big W, Target, Woolworths, Coles, Toymate, Toyworld and Mr. Toys store or online.

Thanks to the release of the adorable new MiniDooz you can now really take your Doo with you, anywhere and anytime. Each of the twelve tiny MiniDooz girls is packed in the sweetest nail polish – shaped salon bottle, how sweet is that? We love that you can flip open the bottle lid (hair dryer style!) to take a sneak peek at your mini’s stylish doo… Will you be one of the first to discover the limited edition Glitzy Glama Fuzzidoo? We were and she is super sparkly!

Not only does their compact size make these little ladies the perfect companion for backpacks and dress pockets, MiniDooz are also designed to slide on top of your favourite pencil or pen. Add to that the familiar suction cup to build a floating seat and a bonus sheet of six cheeky mark nail stickers and we can safely say that this new HairDooz range has nailed it!

Pop into your local Kmart, Big W, Woolworths, Toymate or Mr. Toys store or online to start your MiniDooz collection.

Hip Tip: While the cute MiniDooz bottles come in a range of bright colours, these colours do not necessarily represent which Doo is inside so it will always be a surprise!

HairDooz: Find the Doo for You

Immunisations are never something I look forward to (especially when I have to take all six kids at once) but prevention is better than cure so it has to be done. On Saturday morning we checked into the GP surgery for the latest meningococcal jab and they all calmly did their duty without a squeak. Except for miss Hattie who made enough noise for all six of them.

I’ll be honest, in the lead up to our doctor’s appointment I had bribed the girls with a secret surprise sitting on our kitchen bench and they were super excited about unwrapping one of these adorable treasures once the job was done. HairDooz (ages 5+) are the cutest little dolls with big doos: smooth and shiny, buns and boofy, curly and colourful, plaits and ponytails, funky and fuzzy, quirky and classic… there is a perfect doo for every boo.

Carefully packaged in a blind bottle capsule you never know which HairDooz you get, which makes it extra fun. When you open your bottle and twist the salon door you will find your new boo waiting for you in her styling chair. Her unique doo smells super fruity and she even wears a hairdresser’s cape, my girls love giving their dolls makeovers with teeny hair ties and miniature brushes.

The girls particularly enjoyed taking their HairDooz along in the car, using the included suction cap to connect the salon seat to the car window. You can also stick your little stylista onto windows, mirrors, wardrobes and other suitable surfaces around the house. Just keep in mind that you need to slightly twist/screw the styling chair to pop it in and out of the suction cap/chair stand (our miss muscles Juliet learnt this the hard way).

If you are very lucky you’ll unwrap Skye with the Big Bow Ponydoo, a rare colour change HairDooz boo whose luscious locks change colour when you dip her doo in a nice warm bath. When you rins her strands under cold water the colour changes back, now that is clever. We haven’t found gorgeous Skye yet but I’ll let you know when we do (flu shots are around the corner so we might just have to adopt some more HairDooz!).

There are currently 24 different HairDooz to collect, you can view all the different girls, colours and hair styles in the Collector’s Guide inside the capsule and tick them off as your collection grows. You can find HairDooz right now at your local Target, Myer, Big W, Kmart, Coles and Woolworths store as well as leading toy retailers across Australia.

Smiggle

Confession time: Call me a mean mum but sometimes I purposely choose a different route through the shopping centre so that my girls don’t get to pass our local Smiggle store. They are madly in love with everything Smiggle and can easily spend an hour admiring all the treasures in this fabulous shop, especially since the release of the gorgeous Smile with Smiggle collection. This wonderful range of fun, trendy and budget-friendly hair accessories, rings, bracelets, necklaces and more is every girl’s dream and there is so much to choose from!

What a fantastic opportunity to stock up on stocking fillers without breaking your tight Christmas budget! Hurry, this great offer is valid for a limited time only.

If your little lady is as crazy about unicorns as my girls are you are going to love this amazing prize pack the Smiggle team put together for one lucky Hip Little One reader:

There is no doubt about it, this magical Smile Unicorn Headband (RRP $14.95) is going to be a top seller this festive season. With unicorns being so incredibly popular right now this pretty number will be taking up no.1 spot on many wish lists, I know my girls would love it! Featuring silver sparkles and beautiful pink flowers this headband allows every little girl to turn into a real unicorn in the blink of an eye.

Trodding along the unicorn trail we come across this cute Smile Fabulous Earrings 3-pack (RRP $9.95, ages 6+), after all who can resist a sparkly unicorn! Made from hypo-allergenic materials and completely nickel-free, just like the rest of the Smile with Smiggle range, these sweet earrings are perfect for girls of all ages. There are loads of different earring designs to choose from and with 3 styles per set you can swap your earrings as often as you like.

Of course not every girl likes pink or purple, which is why Smiggle accessories come in a rainbow of colours. The Smile Dee Unicorn Necklace (RRP $12.95, ages 6+) is available in a mystical blue shade and comes with an adjustable ball-chain so you can create the perfect fit for you. Cupcakes, rainbows, owls, butterflies, cats… picking a favourite necklace from the range is not an easy task so I am glad I have four darling daughters to buy for.

When it comes to party bags and Christmas stockings I can highly recommend the Smiggle ring sets, with six different rings per pack they are excellent value for money and (if desired) you can easily split the sets up and treat multiple girls to a ring or two. The Smile Livvy Rings 6-pack (RRP $12.95, ages 6+) features flowers, love hearts, stars and jewels and the rings are slightly adjustable in size so you can’t go wrong there.

Last but not least, loyal Hip Little One readers will know by now how much I love charm bracelets and there is no shortage of delightful charms at Smiggle. The Smiggle charm bracelets are so well priced yet look a million dollars, they will be my go-to gift for upcoming birthdays. Sticking with the unicorn theme the Smile Daydream Bracelet (RRP $9.95, ages 6+) is an excellent match, I think we’ll have one very happy giveaway winner when she sees this!

ecostore

What can I say, you don’t know the true luxury of a relaxing warm shower until you find yourself without hot water. Recently our hot water system broke down unexpectedly which left our family of seven out in the cold, literally. But tough as they are even a chilly shower doesn’t stop my tribe from getting clean and scrubbing up while putting the newest ecostore products to the test:

Designed with the young, sensitive skin of children in mind the brand new ecostore Kids range is guaranteed to get your precious little ones squeaky clean and smelling delicious without exposing them to hidden nasties. The ecostore Kids range is safer for you and safer for the world we live in, so it’s a double win! Did you know ecostore uses unique biodegradable renewable sugarcane plastic packaging? It’s just another way they show they care.

From the top of their head to the tips of their wiggly toes, ecostore Kids Foam to the Max (RRP $9.99, 350ml) is sure to get the thumbs up from everyone. As a mum I love the practical 3-in-1 concept (shampoo, conditioner and body wash), the handy pump flacon (one pump is plenty and no waste) and of course the safe plant and mineral based formula that cleanses gently yet thoroughly. At the same time kids love the generous foam for extra bath time fun and the pleasant Pear Pop or Fruity Zing fragrance.

No matter how old you are, we all love the luxurious feeling of sinking into a big sea of bubbles. A little squeeze of ecostore Kids Double Trouble Bubble Maker (RRP $9.99, 400ml) in your bath water is enough to create a fun foam frenzy that will win over even the biggest bath hater. Just keep the bottle away from little hands because they’ll keep wanting to go back for more! Bonus: The Pear Pop scent is absolutely scrumptious.

Now I haven’t tried out this special kids hand soap myself just yet, but the word on the street is that ecostore has successfully made hand washing cool again with the new ecostore Kids Foam it Up (RRP $9.99, 350ml). One bottle of this super soap lasts an enormous 500 pumps, that’s a lot of toilet trips and excellent value for money. The gentle natural formula is safe for little ones aged 2+, putting an end to sticky fingers and greasy hands without using nasty chemicals.

These five fabulous ecostore Kids products are now available at Chemist Warehouse stores across Australia as well as the Chemist Warehouse online store.

Christmas Countdown – Day 15

If you are a modern, eco-conscious parent you have most likely heard of Sustainababy, a beautiful Australian online store filled with fabulous green finds for Aussie families. Aside from being the go-to lady for awesome eco-gear owner Meg also does an amazing job educating people about sustainability, responsibility and how your shopping choices affect both your health and the environment.

Sustainababy proudly stocks products and brands that put your family’s health and the environment first, like the wonderful Little Innoscents skincare range. Especially for our lucky Christmas Countdown giveaway Meg has handpicked her six favourite Little Innoscents products:

From the top of their heads to the tip of their tiny toes, the Little Innoscents Hair & Body Wash (RRP $12.99, 250ml) is bound to leave your little ones squeaky clean. The delicious Heavenly Spearmint & Sweet Orange scent will hang around long after the fun bubbles have disappeared, leaving you feeling fresh and fruity for longer. Perfect for everyday use and safe for all ages this lovely wash will soon be a family-favourite.

We all know the importance of ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ but do you know what’s really hiding inside your sunscreen and creeping into your skin? Completely free from nano-particles, chemical absorbers and preservatives and filled with natural goodness like Vitamin E, Organic Green Tea, Cucumber and Rosehip extract Little Innoscents SPF30 Sun Lotion (RRP $19.95, 100ml) is a gentle, natural and safe way to protect your family’s skin this Summer.

Like most children our five kids are experts at making mess so there is always lots of hand washing going on in our house. Instead of using liquid soap that would leave their hands (already painful and sensitive due to certain skin conditions) red and irritated we have been using the wonderful Little Innoscents Goat’s Milk Bar (RRP $3.99, 100g). Not only does it clean and nourish in a gentle way, it also lasts a lot longer than liquid soap (and fewer spills so less cleaning).

With its pleasant Mint & Strawberry Swirls flavour this Little Innoscents Milky Whites Toothpaste (RRP $4.99, 50ml) is sure to win over even the fussiest child at toothbrushing time. Being rich in calcium and free from questionable ingredients like fluoride, surfactants, artificial sweeteners and mineral oil this organic tooth paste provides parents with much needed peace of mind, knowing their children’s precious pearly whites will stay healthy and clean naturally.

Don’t let the name fool you, Little Innoscents Winter Blue Balm (RRP $10.99, 75ml) can be used all year around to help fight little sniffles, snotty noses and annoying coughs by making breathing easier. This 100% natural and baby-safe balm is made with medicinal essential oils of Wintergreen and Eucalyptus, bringing warmth to the body and alleviating nasal congestion. What a great alternative to greasy petrolatum based products!

Last but not least, the one product pretty much every mum uses multiple times a day: baby wipes. Unlike most other baby wipes on the market Little Innoscents Baby Wipes (RRP $6.50, 80pk) are free of alcohol, artificial fragrance, colours, parabens, phthalates and other nasty chemicals, so they can be safely used on little bottoms, sticky fingers, grubby faces and toys. Infused with soothing Aloe Vera and Vitamin E they will leave your baby’s sensitive skin nourished and soft, wipe after wipe.

It has been a big few weeks for miss Sybbie with the start of kindy, an ear infection and several visits to the hospital with her broken little finger. She has settled in well at kindy and aside from a few tears really enjoys her playtime two mornings a week. It has made me realise how much she has grown this last year, she sure is a big girl now! She loves drawing, creating things with glue and scissors and playing with her sisters and their Australian Girl dolls:

australian-girl-emily

So far sweet Jasmine has been claimed by older, dark-haired sister Olivia, her curly-haired sister Juliet is the proud owner of gorgeous Matilda and now miss Sybbie is over the moon with an Australian Girl of her own: meet Emily (RRP $139.95)!

emilyWith her bright yellow checkered shirt, brown boots and a proper Akubra on her head Australian Girl Emily looks like she would feel right at home on a station (very large farm) in the Aussie outback. You can see immediately that this is a girl who loves adventure, enjoys exploring the backyard and adores local wildlife. I think Emily would have loved to help out when we caught an injured koala in our street just a few weeks ago!

Like her friends Emily measures a generous 50cm tall, a perfect step up from the newborn doll Sybil used to play with. Made from firm, lovely to touch rotational vinyl and with strong ball joints the limbs are free to move and can be positioned during play, she can even stand up by herself. At the same time her torso is mostly soft so she is still huggable and human-like.

australian-girl-emily-hair

Sybil is particularly pleased with Emily’s beautiful long blond hair, after all she is a blonde herself too. She loves brushing the high quality kankelon hair (the same hair used in human wigs) with her little Australian Girl brush, if only she was this patient when I have to brush her own hair in the morning. Ribbons, bows, hair clips, she can’t get enough of it. She has already requested some new outfits for Emily so the girls can come up with even more stories and watching them play together and use their imagination is a real joy.
