I know it is hard to believe but in the almost fourteen years I have lived in South Australia, Australia’s Festival State, I have not once made it to the Adelaide Fringe. Things are about to change as we’re planning to celebrate Sybil’s birthday in style this weekend with a visit to a Fringe performance full of giggles, gasps and good old-fashioned family fun:

This year Lost in Translation, one of the UK’s leading contemporary circuses, is making its Adelaide Fringe debut combining theatre, comedy and music in one amazing show that is guaranteed to please the crowds. Hotel Paradiso is a winning mix of thrillingly spectacular and daring circus skills including incredible acrobatics, clowning and juggling, theatrical storytelling, slapstick and physical comedy, it certainly ticks all our boxes! They even use a person as a skipping rope, this has to be seen to be believed…

Come along to meet Madame and the charming staff of the quirkily ineffective Hotel Paradiso. Gathered from countries around the globe the Lost in Translation cast of six highly skilled acrobats, clowns and jugglers will tell the story of how the tenants battle to save their home and livelihood from ‘the Banker’. With thrills, gasps, laughs and drama there’s plenty for both adults and children to enjoy and the glowing reviews are coming in thick and fast: “Easily the best family show at the Fringe!”

Hotel Paradiso at Gluttony is suitable for ages 5 and up and it’s on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so check your calendar and lock in those seats.

To find out more about the Adelaide Fringe, to take a closer look at Hotel Paradiso and to order your tickets online visit www.adelaidefringe.com.au.

If you live in Melbourne and are looking for a nice family outing on Sunday November 20 you should consider visiting the Polish festival at Federation Square. It is fantastic way to introduce your children to a different culture, music and food and not to forget see some great Polish brands with your own eyes at the Coccinella stall where owner Renata will be displaying and selling her fantastic range.

Renate has managed to source a large selection of Poland made toys and clothing which is available to Australian parents in her online store Coccinella. If you are looking for something unique, beautiful, quirky, high quality and eco friendly you will love the latest additions from Polish labels Kalimba, Mon Petit Bebe and Bajo. This 7 piece Mon Petit Bebe Layette would make a lovely gift for a very special new arrival.

Another new product, and probably one of my favourites, is this Kalimba Piggy ($19.95) which is available in different colours. Aren’t they just the cutest with those coloured socks and curly tail? I think they are adorable and having seen the quality and detailed finishing of the handmade Kalimba toys myself I am tempted to buy this one too for my oldest daughter who just loves little piggies.

The fabulous Bajo toys are designed and made in Poland by a talented designer called Wojtek Bajor (hence the name). He uses high quality wood and non toxic paints to create safe, simple and durable toys that can be enjoyed by children for a long time to come. Bajo toys are not only popular in Europe but also in many other countries worldwide.

This multifunctional Bajo Snail Sorter ($74.95) covers different areas of play and development: firstly the shape sorting aspect, the ‘shell’ can be lifted off the base and 6 chunky coloured shapes need to be sorted in the right holes encouraging problem solving skills and logical thinking. Secondly there is the pull and roll aspect which will get little people moving, as the snail is being pulled his shell spins independently triggering a rattling sound as the shapes tumble around.

To find out more about Coccinella, to browse the range and to order online visit www.coccinella.com.au.

For your chance to win a Bajo Snail Sorter visit www.coccinella.com.au and answer the following question: Aside from the items featured above, which other Polish toy available at Coccinella do you really like?
