A few weeks ago I introduced you to Australian company Linenly, home to the most beautiful organic bamboo bedlinen. I have been so excited to discover their range and even more so to dive into a bed freshly made with bamboo goodness! After impatiently stalking the postman for my order I quickly gave my new linen its first wash and manage to swap my sheets just in time for bed…

Because many of you are new to bamboo I promised to share my thoughts on this luxurious range and I made sure to spend a good month trying it out. I slept on it and under it, I washed it and dried it, I ironed it (low setting!) and even squeezed in a few sleep-ins which is very rare for me! There is a lot I want to say about Linenly, but in short let’s just say we are very impressed.

My Linenly order arrived quickly, it was delivered in a matter of days and carefully wrapped for safe transport and delivery. As you can see even the packaging is eco friendly: this nice fabric bag (which matches the colour of your new sheets) holds all your new linen and if you’re a master folder you may even be able to store everything back in there whilst not in use. It would most certainly make it easy to keep the sheets and pillow cases neatly together in your linen cupboard.

The sheets are silky soft and you instantly notice the high quality. All Linenly bamboo sheets have a rich 400 thread count and have been made with a premium sateen weave, it feels like sliding into a deluxe hotel bed every single night. Even after washing our sheets several times the smooth, silky feeling remains, which confirms the quality and durability of this bamboo fabric. For more fabulous facts about bamboo check out my earlier post about Linenly.

Keeping our old sheets onto our extra thick king size mattress was a daily cause of frustration but the Linenly fitted sheets are a generous 40cm deep (and stretchy) and therefore stay perfectly in place. I was so pleased with how the ‘forest’ colour matched with the headboard of our new King Living bed, it looks really clean and calming. Rest assured, there are eight stunning colours to choose from so there is a perfect shade for every bedroom.

If you are keen to give bamboo a go now is the time, with Linenly offering a massive 40% discount on all Linenly bamboo sheet sets. Prices are as marked, Australia-wide delivery is free for orders over $150.

Isn’t it strange? As parents most of us are very cautious about the skincare we use on our children, yet we don’t look after ourselves nearly as well. With more and more serious concerns being raised about the potentially harmful ingredients in regular skincare products it is important to take a closer look at your bathroom cupboard and remove the nasties, skin-safe should be the norm for there whole family.

A super simple ‘nasties-to-natural’ swap is replacing your ordinary deodorant (a must in the sticky Australian weather) for an all natural alternative. Vegan-friendly skincare label MyAura ticks all the boxes with their gentle All Natural Roll-On Deodorant Stick, allowing you to enjoy that nice fresh feeling without the fear of applying something scary directly onto your skin.

The MyAura Organics Deodorant Stick (RRP $9) is completely free from worrying contents like aluminium, zinc, alcohol and synthetic fragrances and instead contains skin-safe aloe vera, Vitamin E, Shea butter and essential oils. Not only will your skin thank you for this healthy swap, the environment will too as MyAura products are cruelty-free, free from palm oil and produced in an eco-responsible facility using environmentally low-impact raw materials.

I recently ditched my regular aerosol anti-perspirant for MyAura and was pleasantly surprised. I will admit that it takes a bit of getting used to: When you have always relied on that sharp tingly sensation of a deodorant spray to make you feel fresh, a gentle roll of the MyAura Deodorant Stick initially may not feel like it will do the trick. However I really loved the smell and it almost felt as if I applied a nourishing cream, so I continued using it and (while on hot days you may want to apply it more than once) it definitely provided a nice clean feel. Remember that you only need a thin layer, as too much may result in a clumping (not that much of a problem as you can just rub it into your skin).

The MyAura Organics All Natural Deodorant is currently available in four delightful fragrances: Bergamot Lime Coconut, Rose Vanilla Jasmine, Lavender Sage Rosemary and Ylang Ylang Rose. You can find the range on the shelf of your local Coles or Woolworths supermarket, at selected pharmacies and online, how convenient is that?

With a baby brother who is rapidly growing out of his bassinet we were getting quite desperate for miss Hattie to complete her cot-to-bed transition. I admit it has been a slow process with quite a few hiccups along the way but eventually we got there! She has now totally settled into the new sleeping quarters and is enjoying the freedom it comes with, hopping in and out of bed multiple times a night. Of course this means sleeping bags are no longer an option, but thankfully ergoPouch has come up with a solution:

Is it a sleeping bag? Is it a sleep suit? Well, it’s both! The convertible ergoPouch Sleep Suit Bag (RRP $74.95, 2 months – 6 years) combines everything you love about a cosy sleeping bag with the benefits of a more grown-up suit with legs. All it takes is two zips and you can change between suit or bag as often you please and as your child’s needs or sleeping arrangements change, now that’s great value for money.

Perfect for that tricky in between weather the short-sleeve ergoPouch Spring/Autumn Sleep Suit Bag (1.0 TOG) will keep baby comfortable and at the right temperature without being bulky and restrictive. Made with the sensitive skin of little ones in mind the soft organic cotton and bamboo blend is gentle and allergy friendly, reducing the risk of skin irritation, eczema flare-ups and long nights of itching and scratching.

The award-winning Sleep Suit Bag offers plenty of wiggle room and a teeny touch of stretchy elastane allows your child to move hips and legs around freely. Whether your child sleeps in cot, car or carrier, rides in a stroller or even likes to stroll on his/her own wobbly little legs, the innovative 2-in-1 design can be used anywhere without compromising on safety (the suit mode allows for seatbelt and harnesses). Fitted with special no-slip grip pads the suit will help new walkers stay on their feet.

I really love the handy room thermometer that comes with the Sleep Suit Bag, completely free. Not only does it show you the temperature in your baby’s room, the dressing guide also tells you which TOG rating to wear at different room temperatures and what type of clothing to put underneath your sleeping bag or suit. It’s just the helpful guide a caring parent needs to reassure them they are doing the right thing for their precious little one.

In line with the SIDS guidelines ergoPouch Sleep Suit Bags provide the warmth and comfort babies require for a restful sleep without the need for (potentially dangerous) loose bedding. Not sure which product/TOG rating to choose? Use the quick ergoPouch Finder to find the best match for your child and his/her sleeping environment, easy as pie.

Hip tip: Sign up for the FREE ergoPouch newsletter to stay up-to-date with all the latest news and exciting arrivals and receive 10% discount on your first order.

Christmas Countdown – Day 19

It’s a feeling all parents know too well: whether you are a soon-to-be, new or seasoned mother, getting a gift for your little one(s) is often more fun than getting something for yourself. We totally understand how easy it is for mum to be forgotten, so we have made sure our Christmas Countdown has the whole family covered. In fact, this sweet prize pack from Milk and Love spoils both mother and child in one go:

Lovingly put together by Milk & Love owner Corryn the Mother-to-Be Eco Gift Box (RRP $59.95) contains three fabulous products any eco-conscious mama will adore:

Made right here in Australia with nourishing goat’s milk this luxurious Billie Baby Goats Milk Moisturiser (100ml) will keep your family’s skin soft and nourished the natural way. The gentle, caring formula is ideal for people suffering from eczema and other sensitive skin conditions as it is completely free from colour and fragrances that often cause irritation, you can even use it on the delicate facial area.

Containing the same delicious Aussie goat’s milk, as well as a number of carefully selected skin loving ingredients, Billie Baby Goats Milk Baby Body Wash (240ml) is the perfect addition to your daily bath or shower routine. This gentle cleanser is free from questionable nasties like parabens, SLS, propylene glycol, DEA and petrochemicals, so you can safely use it on your precious newborn (and the rest of the family). One little pump is all you need, so this bottle goes a very long way.

Measuring a very generous 120 x 120cm in size the beautiful Little Bean Organics Baby Wrap will surround your precious bundle with layers of super soft and snuggly organic cotton that is free from pesticides and other toxic ingredients. You can use this versatile wrap as a swaddle, a light blanket in the cot or pram, a play mat or even a nursing cover when out and about. The gender neutral leaf print is perfect for both boys and girls and of course surprises, what a wonderful babyshower gift idea.

As the cherry on top (and to make your life a little easier) one of Milk & Love’s Celebrating Motherhood Gift Cards and complimentary gift wrapping are included, ensuring the Mother-to-Be Eco Gift Box is ready to be gifted to a special mama in your life.

Christmas Countdown – Day 15

If you are a modern, eco-conscious parent you have most likely heard of Sustainababy, a beautiful Australian online store filled with fabulous green finds for Aussie families. Aside from being the go-to lady for awesome eco-gear owner Meg also does an amazing job educating people about sustainability, responsibility and how your shopping choices affect both your health and the environment.

Sustainababy proudly stocks products and brands that put your family’s health and the environment first, like the wonderful Little Innoscents skincare range. Especially for our lucky Christmas Countdown giveaway Meg has handpicked her six favourite Little Innoscents products:

From the top of their heads to the tip of their tiny toes, the Little Innoscents Hair & Body Wash (RRP $12.99, 250ml) is bound to leave your little ones squeaky clean. The delicious Heavenly Spearmint & Sweet Orange scent will hang around long after the fun bubbles have disappeared, leaving you feeling fresh and fruity for longer. Perfect for everyday use and safe for all ages this lovely wash will soon be a family-favourite.

We all know the importance of ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ but do you know what’s really hiding inside your sunscreen and creeping into your skin? Completely free from nano-particles, chemical absorbers and preservatives and filled with natural goodness like Vitamin E, Organic Green Tea, Cucumber and Rosehip extract Little Innoscents SPF30 Sun Lotion (RRP $19.95, 100ml) is a gentle, natural and safe way to protect your family’s skin this Summer.

Like most children our five kids are experts at making mess so there is always lots of hand washing going on in our house. Instead of using liquid soap that would leave their hands (already painful and sensitive due to certain skin conditions) red and irritated we have been using the wonderful Little Innoscents Goat’s Milk Bar (RRP $3.99, 100g). Not only does it clean and nourish in a gentle way, it also lasts a lot longer than liquid soap (and fewer spills so less cleaning).

With its pleasant Mint & Strawberry Swirls flavour this Little Innoscents Milky Whites Toothpaste (RRP $4.99, 50ml) is sure to win over even the fussiest child at toothbrushing time. Being rich in calcium and free from questionable ingredients like fluoride, surfactants, artificial sweeteners and mineral oil this organic tooth paste provides parents with much needed peace of mind, knowing their children’s precious pearly whites will stay healthy and clean naturally.

Don’t let the name fool you, Little Innoscents Winter Blue Balm (RRP $10.99, 75ml) can be used all year around to help fight little sniffles, snotty noses and annoying coughs by making breathing easier. This 100% natural and baby-safe balm is made with medicinal essential oils of Wintergreen and Eucalyptus, bringing warmth to the body and alleviating nasal congestion. What a great alternative to greasy petrolatum based products!

Last but not least, the one product pretty much every mum uses multiple times a day: baby wipes. Unlike most other baby wipes on the market Little Innoscents Baby Wipes (RRP $6.50, 80pk) are free of alcohol, artificial fragrance, colours, parabens, phthalates and other nasty chemicals, so they can be safely used on little bottoms, sticky fingers, grubby faces and toys. Infused with soothing Aloe Vera and Vitamin E they will leave your baby’s sensitive skin nourished and soft, wipe after wipe.

Christmas Countdown – Day 6

Most parents will agree that this time of year is extra special when there is a new little one on the way or when celebrating your baby’s first Christmas. As a mum of five I know very well how precious those ‘First Christmas’ photos are and how much thought goes into picking the perfect gifts and the right festive outfit. If you’re on the hunt for some gorgeous gear for your cute bundle or another precious little one in your life I’ve got just the address for you:

baby-gift-works

Australian online store Baby Gift works is filled to the brim with handpicked treasures: beautiful clothing, sweet accessories, cool gifts, luxurious toiletries, lovely linen and more, what will you put under the tree this year?

frugi-suitWhen it comes to shopping for a baby it’s OK to be picky, in fact it is very important to be selective and carefully choose items that are high quality, durable and gentle on both your baby and the environment. Baby Gift Works owner and mother of two Kyla has come to the aid of conscious parents and sourced some of the best organic and eco-friendly labels in Australia and even across the globe.

frugi-hedgehog-muslinPopular UK brand Frugi is loved all over the world for its super soft organic cotton fabrics, comfortable fits and excellent durability, my children own quite a few Frugi garments and I can absolutely vouch for their fantastic quality. You can find an extensive range of Frugi clothes and accessories at Baby Gift Works and I love that you can easily mix and match different pieces to create new looks. Bonus: If you spend $100 or more on Frugi products you will receive a free Christmas gift box, now that’s wrapping made easy.

tots-botsAnother awesome reason eco-parents like Frugi is the fact that, unlike most mainstream clothing, its designs are spacious enough to allow for reusable cloth nappies. They have even teamed up with the nappy specialists at Tots Bots to create an exclusive range of designer cloth nappies to match the Frugi prints, they are so adorable and so much better on the budget (and the environment) than disposables. This Hedgehog in Wellies print is my big favourite, perfect for miss Hattie.
