Woohoo! For a while it seemed like our holiday would never come any closer but with less than 3 months to go we’re finally getting there. I have started packing the first gifts in our suitcases, stocked up on new pyjamas for everyone and set out six backpacks for our six little travellers. When you spend 24 hours travelling (and 5 weeks away from home) you have to bring some great boredom busters (read sanity savers), which is where LeapFrog comes in:

Juliet has owned her LeapPad Ultimate (RRP $199.95, ages 3-9) for about 8 months now so we’ve tested it through and through and I can not speak highly enough of this kid-friendly tablet. Designed by the toy-experts at LeapFrog and backed by a team of dedicated educators this amazing tablet is all about custom learning whilst having fun and staying safe.

Where do I begin? Let’s start with the basics, the LeapPad Ultimate (8GB) has all the popular tablet features like a powerful quad-core processor, dual camera to take photos and videos, WiFi connection (more on that later!), a music player, rechargeable battery and more. It also comes preloaded with a whole heap of cool games and apps that have been thoroughly tested to be appropriate, educational and safe.

From practising your ABC with Letter Factory Flash Cards to fun with animals and learning to care for them in Pet Pad Party, from finding out interesting milky way facts in the Cosmic Cleanup Science Game to solving a mystery in the Dog Show Detectives Interactive Storybook and much more, there is lots to discover when you first tun on your LeapPad Ultimate.

Of course there is plenty more where this came from, so you can expand your content with your choice of 1000+ LeapFrog learning games, videos and eBooks as your child grows and his/her interests change. You can either download them directly to your LeapPad via the LeapFrog App Centre (ideal for last-minute add-ons before a trip) or you can buy selected cartridges at your favourite LeapFrog stockist.

What really makes LeapFrog stand out, and makes its games so much more than just a game, is the special Just For Me learning technology. Without any effort from parents and without any need to change settings this clever technology recognises your child’s progress and automatically adjusts learning levels within the game. This keeps games fun and challenging and helps those little brains develop further.

As a mum of six I know all too well that every child is unique, their interests are different, they develop at different speeds and they struggle with different things too. I love that you can create a personal account for multiple children on one LeapPad device, so they can each access their own content and the games are tailored to their specific knows and needs. When it comes to selecting new apps for your tablet you can search by age and skill which helps you make the right educational choice for your child.

If the thought of allowing your children access to the internet terrifies you I have good news for you. Your child’s safety is LeapFrog’s top priority, which is why they have created a unique Kid-Safe Web Browser. All web content, videos, photos and pages that are accessible via LeapSearch have been triple checked and are deemed safe and appropriate by the LeapFrog learning experts. Here’s to the wonderful world wide web without the worries!

Many parents feel that tablets and small hands are not always a good combination and it’s true, accidents happen to the best of us! Thankfully the LeapPad Ultimate is durable and kid-tough, featuring a shatter-safe screen, super strong frame and wrap around bumper for extra protection. Even better, from the end of June you can get your hands on a new LeapPad Ultimate bundle which comes with a complimentary zip-up Carry Case to keep your LeapPad safe while travelling or in storage.

The LeapPad Ultimate + Carry Case Bundle will be available at BigW, good toy stores and selected online retailers.

Step inside Rose Petal Cottage

Isn’t it amazing how well the old man in red knows our children? Even though he only visits once a year he knows exactly what they’re into and how they like to spend their time. Beautifully wrapped and addressed to ‘the girls’ this large Worlds Apart gift delivered just the smiles we expected:

As soon as I laid eyes on the beautiful Rose Petal Cottage (Ages 2+) I could picture our four girls in there; making up stories, playing mums, dads, fairies and princesses, sharing secrets, having tea parties and enjoying the blessing that is sisters. Measuring a generous 108 x 98 x 70 cm in size this lovely home is spacious enough for siblings or friends to share and will provide hours and hours of pretend play fun.

While the old man with the white beard took all the credit for this amazing present Hip Daddy did the hard work and assembled the cottage so the adventure could begin. Setting up was a simple case of first connecting the metal pieces to build the cottage frame, then to slide the frame into the sturdy, wipe clean cover which zips up nice and snug so it stays in place perfectly.

What really makes Rose Petal Cottage so unique and special is that the decorative cover is printed with the loveliest little details on both the in- and outside. On the outside this delightful playhouse features cladded walls, a shingled roof, lanterns, birds, gumboots near the door, flowers and more. It’s pretty much the dreamy cottage you see in your favourite fairytales!

On the inside this sweet house is homey and welcoming with gorgeous details like a doormat, floorboards, a fireplace, a real mirror and a useable shelf complete with photo frame so you can display your favourite picture. It even has a window with country style shutters that open and close!

You can enter Rose Petal Cottage through the cottage door, which can be ‘locked’ with a latch. The door is attached with velcro so you can also remove it completely if you wish (something baby Harriet worked out very quickly). One of the metal poles is conveniently fitted with hinges, allowing you to fully open up the side of the cottage and in doing so extend your play area.

As a special bonus Rose Petal Cottage comes partially furnished with a homey cooking unit, perfect for whipping up a batch of pretend cookies, tasty muffins and yummy pies for little guests. The removable cooking unit has an oven door that really opens (you’ll find a cardboard muffin tray inside to get you started) and the stove top knobs turn like the real deal.

Globber

She may only be three years old but our miss Sybbie is always trying to keep up with the big kids, with all the older siblings off on their new scooters it was only a matter of time until this little adventurer followed suit. She’s turning out to be a real daredevil who loves cruising the local park on her Globber wheels (with mama watching nervously from the sidelines!):

Globber 001

Being a 3-wheel scooter the cool Globber MyFREE Up (RRP $130, ages 3+) allows young riders to experience the joy and excitement of riding and controlling their own scooter, while being supported by a sturdy, well balanced frame that makes it easier for them to stay upright.

Globber 002

This funky Globber scooter may be smaller in size but it is just as big in style, safety, durability and quality as the rest of the Globber family. The curved design looks playful and child-friendly and it rides super smooth. With a weight limit of 50kg and a height adjustable handlebar that can be changed from 67.5 up to 77.5cm the Globber MyFree Up grows effortlessly with your child so kids can scoot around for longer.

MyFREE Up PurpleDesigned with young children in mind the MyFree Up is fitted with a range of great features that ensure a safe, comfortable ride for little legs. Take for example the steering lock which locks the steering to help new riders master the stepping and rolling action (quite tricky when you’re learning!) without having to worry too much about steering at the same time. The special X-cross deck design creates a stronger deck and improves directional turning performance using the T-bar handlebar.

Personally I feel the low deck design is fantastic, it makes it so much for easier for kids to get on and off with confidence and thanks to not having to lift their feet that high riding is less tiring too. As a beginner Sybbie usually takes lots of little steps with short roll-outs, but the colourful dual-injection deck is roomy enough for small feet to stand next to each other when going down-hill or to have a rest while being pushed by a helpful adult.

Globber 003

The MyFree Up is currently available in five trendy colours suitable for street smart boys and girls, so there is a perfect ride for everyone. Being a real girly-girl our little lady obviously voted for pink, she even insisted on a helmet to match!

Hatley

Packing suitcases for seven people is definitely not something to leave until the last minute, so even though we are not leaving for another five weeks I have already made a start with some of the luggage. I always pack two sets of nice new PJs for each child and Canadian label Hatley is by far one of our sleepwear favourites:

Hatley sleepwear

Made from 100% breathable cotton Hatley sleepwear (sizes 0-12) is super soft, stretchy and gentle on the skin. Whether it’s the baby’s zip up romper, some snuggly winter long johns or light summer PJs for the older ones, I know the kids can move around freely and will be comfortable all night long. Take it from this mum-of-five and hand-me-down expert: Hatley gear washes and wears extremely well.

Hatley romperNormally Hatley pyjamas will put you back around $44.95 a pair, which I feel is a fair price based on the high quality and durability. Of course when you do manage to find them on sale it’s even better, so I did big stocking up at Fashion Deli earlier this week. Not only do they have some gorgeous Hatley styles on sale at the moment, they are running an extra special deal on top of that! Don’t miss this one:

Right now you can save an additional 30% on all ‘Clearance Sale’ items at Fashion Deli, simply enter the code ‘EXTRA30’ at checkout. Offer ends Sunday July 24, 2016.

Take A Seat With Babyhood

Babyhood

Almost eight years ago hip daddy and I selected the Babyhood Georgia sleigh cots and change table for our two bundles of joy, I vividly remember how happy and proud I was looking around our gorgeous baby room. Five babies later and we are still using the same nursery furniture every day, clearly our choice for quality and durability has paid off!

Babyhood Table + Chairs

Hopefully we’ll get just as much enjoyment out of the Babyhood Playing Table with 4 Chairs (RRP $249) which we recently added to our living room. As you can probably imagine it can be quite tricky for short legs and arms to (safely) climb on and off high chairs and sit up properly at a big kitchen table, so this child-sized set is making life a lot easier and safer for our growing family.

Babyhood rounded corners

From breakfast in the morning to tea-parties at lunch and from drawing, puzzling and games to snacks after school, our lovely wooden table is in use all day. The chairs also double as a seats on a bus, the frame of a blanket fort or movie theatre seats, there is no lack of imagination here! The kids can hop on and off the chairs with ease without needing help and without getting hurt (yay for rounded corners). Measuring 60x60cm in size there is plenty of surface space and even with all four chairs taken there is enough room on the table for breakfast plates or colouring books.

Babyhood table

Often children’s furniture features bright colours or busy patterns, great for kids but not always a good match for the rest of your home decor. The traditional look of the Babyhood table and chairs fits in effortlessly in most homes and doesn’t date so we are sure to enjoy it for years to come. The beautiful finish and natural colour variances in the warm, chocolate wood are just stunning especially when it catches the sunlight.

Babyhood chair

Not only does the wood look classy and timeless, it is also very strong, solid and eco-friendly. As a busy family with five young children we always think ahead and opt for durability, this table and chairs set is built to last and I am confident it will survive the every day hustle and bustle of our little tribe.

The Babyhood Playing Table + Chairs set is currently available in four classic looks: white, baltic, cedar and chocolate.

One Sunday

With Christmas less than 7 weeks away I am slowly starting to think about the kids’ Christmas outfits. I love picking something special for all of them each Christmas (even if it takes a while to find the perfect outfit) and with five children to dress I have my work cut out for me. From my experience shopping for the younger ones is pretty easy, unfortunately now that Olivia is 7 years old she is starting to grow out of many great children’s fashion labels and the alternative is often too grown-up (read skimpy and over-sexualised) for my liking.

One Sunday Summer Dresses

Australian designer and mum Henrietta encountered this problem too so she decided to take matters into her own hands and created One Sunday, a wonderful tween fashion label for girls aged 8-16 that is fun, stylish and age-appropriate. All pieces are designed and made right here in Australia using New Zealand fabrics, ensuring a high-quality, durable and fair-trade product that’s comfortable to wear and comfortable on your conscience too.

One Sunday Dresses

The latest One Sunday tween collection has just arrived in store and with 23 new styles added to the line-up your tween’s Summer wardrobe is easily sorted. Whether it’s for Christmas, a special occasion or every day, my girls absolutely love dresses so I was really pleased to see all the pretty new frocks Henrietta has been working on, how sweet are the silver Boat Dress and the stunning Party Dress?

One Sunday Olivia

Initially I feared that Olivia would have to wait another year before she could fit the smallest of the One Sunday range but it turned out luck was on her side so she scored herself a perfect dress for the upcoming festive season. The eye catching Retro Dress in Sputto (RRP $89.95, size 8-16) features a retro-style pleated skirt and cute ties that do up at the shoulders, I just wish this dress came in my size too! It is made of soft and breathable cotton, ideal for the summer season, and the pale blue colour is just divine, I think it suits miss 7 beautifully.
