Back in 2008 when I was pregnant with our twins doctors found several cysts on the brain of one of our twins, not exactly news any parent expects (or wants to hear) when going for a routine ultrasound! Immediately you start worrying about all the conditions, illnesses and disabilities that could possibly affect your baby’s life. Thankfully by the end of our pregnancy the cysts had disappeared, but there are plenty of families who are not so lucky.

Australian mother Jacqui received the same news when pregnant with her twins, and as a result her beautiful son Dominic was born with two conditions. Blessed with two caring, determined parents who fought for the very best early childhood support Dominic has blossomed and is now a happy and active 3-year old. Seeing first hand how important early intervention is for children dealing with disabilities Jacqui, together with her friend Ana, came up with a clever plan to raise money for organisations who support children with developmental delays: meet Jacana Kids.

jacana-kids-teeJacana Kids is a trendy children’s fashion label that combines style with social good, donating 50% of profits to a chosen organisation that helps children with disabilities get the best start in life. The Jacana Kids range caters for cool kids aged 2 to 9 years old and is inspired, and designed, by the amazing children the brand is supporting. So when you don a Jacana Kids outfit you are donating at the same time, what a fabulous concept!

This Summer Miss 6 is spreading the Jacana Kids love with the cute Heartie Tee (RRP $39.95) by Maya, while Master 8 is rocking black and white this summer with the Alphabetie Tee (RRP $39.95) designed by street smart Maddox. Can you believe both of these talented artists are only 5 years old? Their artwork has been lovingly handprinted in Melbourne so there may be slight variations per garment, making each tee a little different just like very child is unique and special.

Hip tip: Make sure you sign up for the free Jacana Kids newsletter to receive 10% off your first purchase and stay up-to-date with all the latest Jacana Kids news and specials.

With Christmas rapidly approaching the focus is generally close to home: time spent with family, a delicious dinner, presents under a tree, a gorgeous new outfit, a holiday… This year Moeloco is encouraging Aussies to look further than their own living room and truly embrace the season of giving by simply popping on their thongs:

Created by Australian designer Kathy the Moeloco flip flop range is not just stylish but social too: Every time you purchase a pair of Moeloco flip flops you are giving a pair of closed-in canvas shoes to a child in poverty. That means your walk is really making a difference in the world, how awesome is that?

moeloco-be-happyMoeloco has teamed up with the Hope Foundation which supports more than 60,000 families living on the streets and in slums in India. Your donation of a pair of enclosed shoes will enable a child to walk to school and avoid injuries and health problems that often come with walking barefoot. When you walk around on Moelocos you are spreading the love in India, as well as on Australian soil by leaving an inspirational message in the sand.

Moeloco flip flops (RRP $45) are available in a range of different designs and sizes to suit children, men and women, so there is a perfect pair of everyone. Be Free, Live Love, I Am Grateful… which style will you put under the tree this Christmas? I just love the wonderful ‘thongs with a thought’ concept and the lucky recipient of a new pair of Moeloco flip flops is sure to appreciate it too.

The Generous Shopper

I have said it many times before and I will say it again: I LOVE online shopping. I love not having to search for an empty parking spot in a busy carpark, no lining up at the checkouts, no forcing my way through crowded aisles, being able to shop from our comfy couch (dressed in pyjamas) at a time that suits me and getting my purchases delivered to my door. I thought I had discovered all there was to love about online shopping… until I got introduced to The Generous Shopper.

Destiny RescueThe Generous Shopper is a fantastic, and very heartwarming, concept that allows everyday people like you and I to donate to charity simple by shopping at your favourite stores and it won’t cost you a cent! Signing up is free and you even get to have a say in which charity you would like to support. We all know that shopping does wonders for your mood and now you can feel extra good knowing that your purchase has helped others too, what a wonderful initiative.

The Generous Shopper has already teamed up with more than 900+ shopping partners and the list is growing every day. Big stores you most likely already shop with and smaller stores that are waiting to be discovered, every single shopping partner has committed to donating a percentage of your sale to charity through The Generous Shopper. The Iconic, Amazon, Asos, Priceline, Bonds, Crossroads just to name a few… it is just amazing to see that so many fantastic brands and stores are joining hands to raise money for charity.

The Generous Shopper concept

How does it work? It’s as simple as downloading and browsing the The Generous Shopper plug-in (250+ shopping partners, desktop only) or clicking through via the The Generous Shopper Shopping website (900+ shopping partners) to be directed to the store of your choice where you shop, and pay, exactly the same as everyone else. Just make sure you are logged in for your purchase to count and your donation to be registered to your chosen charity.

As I was about to embark on my yearly Back to School shop anyway I figured I may as well use The Generous Shopper to access my favourite stores and do some social good at the same time:

Smiggle Summer

As you probably know our kids are big Smiggle fans (like every other child in Australia) so I was very pleased to see they have signed up as a The Generous Shopper partner too, great work. Next time you are looking for a stylish Smiggle gift why not shop through The Generous Shopper, that way you are surprising your chosen charity with a gift too.

Smiggle Sweet Eraser SetThis season’s bright and funky Smiggle school essentials are a fabulous way to add a pop of colour to a boring day of books and studying. Cool notebooks, awesome pencil cases, trendy drink bottles, quirky lunch boxes, eye catching markers, unique eraser and much much more… Smiggle has got all your school needs covered. I placed our order last Thursday and it arrived on Monday, you can’t wish for any faster!

Bonds Breast Cancer Month

On September 26 hip daddy and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. We looked back at all we have achieved, admired our four beautiful children and dreamed about our future, a tree change, a big garden, some chickens and a goat.

On September 27 I walked out of the doctor’s office with a referral for a breast ultrasound after a suspicious lump was found. I rang my husband and cried. I cried a lot those next days. I worried about my children and my husband, about the future that all of a sudden looked so unsure and I worried about having to face a diagnosis without any family support.

McGrath FoundationLuckily for me last week I received the reassuring phone call that everything was clear, I was so relieved and thankful that God heard my prayers and that I could live to see my children grow up. At the same time I realised that many other women are not this lucky and their futures will be forever changed by this horrible disease that affects 1 in 8 Australian women and takes so many lives every day.

You may think that there is not much you can do to help but together we CAN make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients. In the past 5 years the McGrath Foundation has supported 25,000 Australian families who have been affected by breast cancer. With a McGrath Breast Care Nurse in every state and territory throughout Australia, families experiencing breast cancer can self refer to their nearest McGrath Breast Care Nurse and be supported by a McGrath Breast Care Nurse completely free of charge.

This October, in celebration of breast cancer awareness month, BONDS have partnered with the McGrath Foundation to raise much needed funds for the McGrath Foundation so that every breast cancer patient who needs it can have access to a Breast Care Nurse. I would like to encourage you to be generous and make your point today.

Before I moved to Australia I had never heard of Movember. Of course by now I understand the purpose of this hairy concept but it has not changed my opinion on moustaches and beards, they just don’t appeal to me. I am glad my husband doesn’t take part in the hairgrowing part of Movember, we’ll just stick to the sponsoring part instead. Whether you love or loathe hairy faces, you can’t help but adore these MUNCHstaches from Minifashionista.

With MUNCHstaches you don’t have to worry about crumbs on your upperlip, they are supposed to be there! Each set contains five different cookie cutters in the shape of moustaches, one side cuts the shape and the other stamps the details into your very own edible moustache. Do you like your moustache thick and bristly or curled at the tips? If you don’t like the look you just eat it and try the next one.

During this Movember month Minifashionista is donating 25% of the profits of these fabulous MUNCHstaches kits to Men’s Health, so your baking fun and dressing up games are doing much more than just give you a laugh. You could even sell some homemade MUNCHstaches and raise funds for this great chairity! A 5-piece kit costs $14.95, the cutters are made of durable, food-safe plastics and packed in a reusable storage tray.

To find out more about Minifashionista and to order your own MUNCHstaches kit visit www.minifashionista.com.au. For more information about Movember visit au.movember.com.
