Fly Babee

With just over 4 months to go until our European holiday I am starting to get very excited. I can’t wait to see my loved ones again and of course to introduce baby Harriet to her Dutch family. As she will be 11 months old when we travel Hattie will not get a seat on the plane, but thankfully we received confirmation that a bassinet has been allocated to us. Together with our super handy Fly Babee that means she’ll hopefully be able to snooze in peace during the flight:

Fly Babee

Hailed as a real must-have for travelling families the award-winning Fly Babee (RRP $99.95) is the world’s first sleep-easy cover designed for airline bassinets, pram carry cots and strollers. It’s compact, portable and extremely light-weight (just 600 grams!), yet big enough to comfortably fit around airline baby beds and large prams and provide your baby with a private place for a little nap.

Fly Babee Storage BagThe practical pop-up design makes Fly Babee extremely easy to use, it unfolds in the blink of an eye and attaches to the bassinet or pram frame with simple clips. This same strong pop-up frame creates a safe, spacious ‘dome’ around your baby without a claustrophobic feel or the risk of collapsing. When not in use you can keep your Fly Babee cover safely tucked away in the handy carry bag (included) which attaches to your pram with two velcro straps.

Fly Babee Pram CoverFly Babee is packed with plenty of other great features to make travelling with a baby a little easier, for example block-out fabric that locks out over 90% of surrounding light, 100% breathable fabric to avoid overheating and a convenient ‘Chance a Glance’ window so parents can have a little safety-peek without disturbing your tiny dreamer. Whether it’s a walk around the block, a short domestic trip or a long international flight, Fly Babee takes the stress out of your next family adventure.

Double Double

You know what it is like, you’re off enjoying a lovely meal at a cafe or restaurant or maybe visiting a friend when you realise you forgot your child’s sippy cup. As a mother of four I know what will happen when you give excited little munchkins an open cup or glass and generally you’ll regret it soon after. The clever mums at Double Double have come up with the ultimate child-friendly solution for drinks on the go, meet SipSnap:

SipSnap TOT

A SipSnap is a colourful, flexible silicone cover that can be ‘snapped’ onto ordinary cups and glass to create a kid-safe drinking solution. Made from durable, high quality, LFGB approved food grade silicone and free from nasties like BPA-, Phthalate-, and Latex-free it’s a super safe choice for your precious babies.

SipSnap CoverNot only are SipSnaps safe for children, they are great for the environment too as they can be used over and over again. After use simply pop them in the dishwasher or steriliser and they’re ready for the next drink. The SipSnap TOT (RRP $24.95 per 3-pack) instantly turns any cup into a sippy cup, easy a pie! SipSnaps are compact, foldable and come with a free carry case so they can just be thrown into your nappy bag.

For older children who are past the sippy cup stage Double Double has come with the stylish SipSnap KID Straw Silicon Covers (RRP $24.95 per 3-pack). They look absolutely awesome and can be used with any size straw, perfect for parties too! While not entirely spill proof these cool covers do reduce the amount of liquid that can splash over the sides when drinking from an ordinary glass or cup. Nice bonus: The cover keeps drinks in and insects out so it is a great picnic product.

SipSnap KID

You can find SipSnap in store at Australian organic baby store Nature’s Child, to browse the range and to order online visit www.natureschild.com.au.

Fly Babee, first class flying for babies

Fly Babee

When people hear we recently travelled to Europe for a whole month with four children under six they usually call us crazy. Because all my family lives overseas plane trips are simply unavoidable so (while I admit it is not the most relaxing journey ever) over the last few years we’ve become quite experienced in air travelling with kids. The key is to be well prepared and there are some fantastic products out there to help you make your next flight enjoyable and stress free.

Fly Babee

We’ve flown with all four children when they were babies, even with the twins, so we know first hand how tricky it can be to stick to your normal routine and settle your (newborn) baby into a good sleep. The in-flight bassinets are fantastic but unfortunately they are usually located under a brightly lit TV screen, near the frequently visited toilets and next to noisy kitchens so there is a lot of disruption. Invented by one very clever Australian mama the brand new Fly Babee is here to rescue your baby’s (and your own!) sleep:

Fly Babee Storage BagFly Babee (RRP $99.95) is the world’s first sleep-easy cover for airline bassinets, pram carry cots and strollers. The brilliant breathable design blocks out 97% of hindering light, offers UPF 50+ protection against harmful UV rays, protects your child from the looks of well-meaning strangers and reduces your baby’s exposure to nasty germs. It’s compact, portable and light-weight (it weighs just 600 grams!) and the universal fit will make this every mum’s must-have travel accessory.

Fly Babee Pram BagSetting up the Fly Babee is a piece of cake, thanks to the handy pop-up design it unfolds itself automatically and attaches to the in-flight bassinet or pram frame with one simple clip on either side. Returning it to a compact package and back in the included storage bag takes a bit of practice but after a few tries you will have mastered this technique too. The storage bag conveniently attaches to your pram handle with velcro.

Fly Babee Pram CoverThe dome shaped canopy gives your baby plenty of room to move and breathe and you can check up on your sleeping bundle at any time through the super quiet ‘Chance a Glance’ flap. Once the Fly Babee is in place you can easily put your baby in and take baby out via the big zippered openings. Fly Babee is such a fantastic invention, if you are travelling with a baby this Summer you have to put this great Aussie product on your packing list for sure.

Fly Babee ClipsAs the Fly Babee is the world’s first airline bassinet cover it is hard to compare but it also doubles as a pram cover which makes it a great multifunctional product. Compared to many other pram covers it is a lot quicker and easier to use, all it takes is two clips instead of endless ties to do up or press studs to close. It also offers much more room thanks to the dome shape whereas other covers often stretch tightly across the frame leaving little moving space which can be scary for young children.

Topszy Logo

If you are a long term reader of Hip Little One you will know that while I am absolutely pro breastfeeding (I am still breastfeeding our almost 9-month old) and think that women should feel completely free to feed in public I myself am not a confident public breastfeeder at all. It is something I have never felt very comfortable with and whenever possible I will always try to be home at feeding times. However on Monday our beautiful girl had to have a barium swallow xray at the hospital which required a few hours of fasting and as a result I had an extremely upset and very hungry girl on my hands…

One garment, so many uses

Topszy. One garment, so many uses

Obviously I knew I had no other option than to feed her there and then, to still the hunger and even more so to comfort her after the upsetting procedure. I made sure I was well prepared, wearing a very comfortable nursing singlet with easy feeding access layered with my black Topszy. You may have never heard of it before but Topszy is an innovative accessory for mums that can be used in 12 ways, including as a breastfeeding cover for self conscious mums like me.

Topszy MBJ

Don’t be fooled by the simple shape of the Topszy (it is basically a big rectangular piece of fabric with an opening in it), you’ll be amazed by how handy and useful it is. There are four different ways to use the Topszy as a nursing cover, providing you with great coverage to allow for discreet breastfeeding. If you are not breastfeeding you can wear your Topszy as a halter or strapless top, a vest (my favourite!), a tunic or a scarf. And there is more, the Topszy also makes a handy cover for your pram or baby capsule or even a quick swaddle blanket when out and about.

Topsy Cover 2

Unlike many other nursing covers the Topszy is specifically designed without clips, buttons, zips, loops or ribbons making it very easy to use. The soft 100% cotton fabric is gentle against the skin, drapes nicely and is nice and breathable in the hot Australian weather. The Topszy ($38.50) is available in 14 different colours to suit your taste and style. Each Topszy comes complete with easy-to-follow instructions to help you make the most of your new accessory and for a bit more help and inspiration you can always fall back on the Topszy Demonstration Video on YouTube.

munch-2010-header1

On school days our mornings are always busy, with four children under five there is a lot to be done and they still need help with most things. Getting dressed, brushing teeth, quickly organise breakfast, lunch and snack, then refill the water bottles and off we go. It is easy to forget to actually check the drink bottles for cleanliness but I highly recommend you do take a closer look next time you fill up…

Munch Drink Bottles

Many bottles have little ridges or small gaps and are made of porous materials which make perfect hiding spots for bacteria. Even if your children just drink water there will still be nasties that find their way in and in turn they float straight into your child’s mouth, eek!! Munch Stainless Steel Drink Bottles are both clean and safe, free from toxins and BPA and made with high quality 18/8 food-grade brushed stainless steel.

Munch Drink BottlesStainless steel is known to be a very hygenic material choice, it is easy to clean and it leaves your drink tasting fresh without retaining odours. By choosing a Munch reusable and recyclable bottle instead of single use fruit boxes or plastic bottles you are also doing your share for the environment. Munch bottles ($9.90-$15.40) are available in 350ml, 500ml and 800ml size, so from little tots all the way up to thirsty dads they have got the whole family covered.

Munch Sippy SpoutRaising kids is expensive enough as it is so parents will be pleased to know that Munch bottles are a great investment. There are five different Munch Bottle Lids ($3.30-$4.40) to choose from and as your child grows you can simply replace the lid instead of the whole bottle. Starting with a sippy spout for the youngest ones up to a more grown up flat cap or sport cap, you get to choose the type of lid that comes with your new bottle and spare lids are available in store.

Munch Insulated CoverTo protect your shiny new bottle and to make sure your drink stays at the right temperature you can slip on one of the Munch Neoprene Insulated Covers ($6.60-$9.90). These padded, washable little ‘jackets’ are available in a range of prints and colours to suit young and old and are fitted with a handy clip so your child’s bottle can stay attached to backpack or belt. Nice bonus: These clever covers also keep condensation away from school books and clothes.
