What can I say, you don’t know the true luxury of a relaxing warm shower until you find yourself without hot water. Recently our hot water system broke down unexpectedly which left our family of seven out in the cold, literally. But tough as they are even a chilly shower doesn’t stop my tribe from getting clean and scrubbing up while putting the newest ecostore products to the test:

Designed with the young, sensitive skin of children in mind the brand new ecostore Kids range is guaranteed to get your precious little ones squeaky clean and smelling delicious without exposing them to hidden nasties. The ecostore Kids range is safer for you and safer for the world we live in, so it’s a double win! Did you know ecostore uses unique biodegradable renewable sugarcane plastic packaging? It’s just another way they show they care.

From the top of their head to the tips of their wiggly toes, ecostore Kids Foam to the Max (RRP $9.99, 350ml) is sure to get the thumbs up from everyone. As a mum I love the practical 3-in-1 concept (shampoo, conditioner and body wash), the handy pump flacon (one pump is plenty and no waste) and of course the safe plant and mineral based formula that cleanses gently yet thoroughly. At the same time kids love the generous foam for extra bath time fun and the pleasant Pear Pop or Fruity Zing fragrance.

No matter how old you are, we all love the luxurious feeling of sinking into a big sea of bubbles. A little squeeze of ecostore Kids Double Trouble Bubble Maker (RRP $9.99, 400ml) in your bath water is enough to create a fun foam frenzy that will win over even the biggest bath hater. Just keep the bottle away from little hands because they’ll keep wanting to go back for more! Bonus: The Pear Pop scent is absolutely scrumptious.

Now I haven’t tried out this special kids hand soap myself just yet, but the word on the street is that ecostore has successfully made hand washing cool again with the new ecostore Kids Foam it Up (RRP $9.99, 350ml). One bottle of this super soap lasts an enormous 500 pumps, that’s a lot of toilet trips and excellent value for money. The gentle natural formula is safe for little ones aged 2+, putting an end to sticky fingers and greasy hands without using nasty chemicals.

These five fabulous ecostore Kids products are now available at Chemist Warehouse stores across Australia as well as the Chemist Warehouse online store.

Christmas Countdown – Day 15

If you are a modern, eco-conscious parent you have most likely heard of Sustainababy, a beautiful Australian online store filled with fabulous green finds for Aussie families. Aside from being the go-to lady for awesome eco-gear owner Meg also does an amazing job educating people about sustainability, responsibility and how your shopping choices affect both your health and the environment.

Sustainababy proudly stocks products and brands that put your family’s health and the environment first, like the wonderful Little Innoscents skincare range. Especially for our lucky Christmas Countdown giveaway Meg has handpicked her six favourite Little Innoscents products:

From the top of their heads to the tip of their tiny toes, the Little Innoscents Hair & Body Wash (RRP $12.99, 250ml) is bound to leave your little ones squeaky clean. The delicious Heavenly Spearmint & Sweet Orange scent will hang around long after the fun bubbles have disappeared, leaving you feeling fresh and fruity for longer. Perfect for everyday use and safe for all ages this lovely wash will soon be a family-favourite.

We all know the importance of ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ but do you know what’s really hiding inside your sunscreen and creeping into your skin? Completely free from nano-particles, chemical absorbers and preservatives and filled with natural goodness like Vitamin E, Organic Green Tea, Cucumber and Rosehip extract Little Innoscents SPF30 Sun Lotion (RRP $19.95, 100ml) is a gentle, natural and safe way to protect your family’s skin this Summer.

Like most children our five kids are experts at making mess so there is always lots of hand washing going on in our house. Instead of using liquid soap that would leave their hands (already painful and sensitive due to certain skin conditions) red and irritated we have been using the wonderful Little Innoscents Goat’s Milk Bar (RRP $3.99, 100g). Not only does it clean and nourish in a gentle way, it also lasts a lot longer than liquid soap (and fewer spills so less cleaning).

With its pleasant Mint & Strawberry Swirls flavour this Little Innoscents Milky Whites Toothpaste (RRP $4.99, 50ml) is sure to win over even the fussiest child at toothbrushing time. Being rich in calcium and free from questionable ingredients like fluoride, surfactants, artificial sweeteners and mineral oil this organic tooth paste provides parents with much needed peace of mind, knowing their children’s precious pearly whites will stay healthy and clean naturally.

Don’t let the name fool you, Little Innoscents Winter Blue Balm (RRP $10.99, 75ml) can be used all year around to help fight little sniffles, snotty noses and annoying coughs by making breathing easier. This 100% natural and baby-safe balm is made with medicinal essential oils of Wintergreen and Eucalyptus, bringing warmth to the body and alleviating nasal congestion. What a great alternative to greasy petrolatum based products!

Last but not least, the one product pretty much every mum uses multiple times a day: baby wipes. Unlike most other baby wipes on the market Little Innoscents Baby Wipes (RRP $6.50, 80pk) are free of alcohol, artificial fragrance, colours, parabens, phthalates and other nasty chemicals, so they can be safely used on little bottoms, sticky fingers, grubby faces and toys. Infused with soothing Aloe Vera and Vitamin E they will leave your baby’s sensitive skin nourished and soft, wipe after wipe.

Christmas Countdown – Day 12

As a mum of five little ones I know very well that a proper, good quality, durable mattress takes a big chunk out of your family budget, so it is not something you want to have to replace often. Adults are (usually) quite good at keeping their mattresses clean but for children that is a big ask, we all know accidents happen and there is nothing you can do to prevent them. If you have ever tried to clean, scrub and deodorize a mattress you know it ruins your mood, takes ages and after all that it never becomes 100% clean again. Here’s the good news, there is hope!

Australian mattress specialist BedGuard takes the hassle out of a wet bed with an innovative waterproof mattress range that keeps little (and big) sleepyheads comfortable, clean and dry all night long.

Designed to stop liquids, stains and odours from ruining your mattress the unique BedGuard protection layer is guaranteed to keep nasties at bay, in case of accidents just use some paper towel to remove the spill and your mattress is fresh, clean and dry again. No more sleeping on crunchy, sticky, plastic mattress protectors, no more scrubbing, no soda-treatment, no yucky yellow stains and no sneaky odours hanging around, what a fantastic time (and irritation) saver for busy parents!

Aside from repelling liquid, odours and stains BedGuard mattresses have many other great features that make them a family favourite. The anti-dust mite, anti-bacterial, bed bug resistant and flame retardant properties give parents peace of mind, they can sleep well knowing their child is safe and comfortable at all times. All BedGuard mattresses are double sided and filled with above industry standard foam density and high quality inner springs ensuring a comfortable night sleep.

BedGuard is an Australian family business and all products are designed and made right here in Australia using high quality materials. Being Australian made you can rest assured that the manufacturing process is closely monitored from start to finish to supply Aussie families with an outstanding product that they can enjoy for years. BedGuard mattresses have a life expectancy of 10 years and come with a generous 5 year guarantee.

Within the BedGuard mattress range you’ll find three different types of waterproof mattresses (Guardian Comfort, Guardian Luxury and Guardian Opulence) to suit beds of all sizes, from your baby’s cot to a large king size bed BedGuard has the whole family covered. As Christmas approaches and Spring weather finally peeks its head around the corner I am most definitely starting to feel the urge to clear out and clean up, getting ready for family time, visitors and a fresh start to a new year. ecostore helps you Spring clean your home the green way, rewarding you with a fresh and fragrant house whilst leaving yucky chemicals outside:

ecostore-multipurpose-spray-cleanerIf you asked me for my ecostore favourite it would have to be the ecostore Multipurpose Spray Cleaner Orange & Thyme (RRP $5.99, 500ml), this is your perfect go-to spray for all kinds of messy situations. As a busy mum of five I am forever cleaning up sticky fingerprints, gooey splats, little drops, big spills and millions of crumbs, this handy spray wipes away the mess and smells beautifully. I love knowing my children can touch our cupboards and floors without getting in contact with nasty chemicals.

ecostore-toilet-cleanerCleaning the toilet is not exactly an enjoyable chore but with our big family it is a daily must-do. Thought only the strongest, harshest toilet cleaner can get rid of common household germs including E.coli, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas bacteria? Think again: ecostore Toilet Cleaner Citrus (RRP $5.99, 500ml) is a powerful, plant based alternative that kills the bad but respects the bowl (and the environment), plus it leaves the littlest room of the house smelling fresh and fruity.

ecostore-laundry-powderWhile a lovely cleaning scent is nice, for some people it can cause some problems with irritated skin and airways. ecostore comes to the rescue of allergy sufferers with a range of gentle, fragrance-free laundry products, like the ecostore Laundry Powder Ultra Sensitive (RRP $7.99, 1kg) and ecostore Laundry Liquid Ultra Sensitive (RRP $8.99, 1 litre). Tough on stains and kind on skin it’s an ideal pick for newborn babies and those with sensitive skin. Bonus: Being super concentrated a little goes a long way!

ecostore-dish-liquid-grapefruitEven though we are lucky to have a dishwasher, I still prefer to wash baby Hattie’s bottles, bowls and baby toys by hand so I know they are thoroughly scrubbed and rinsed. Approved by Environmental Choice NZ the ecostore Dish Liquid Grapefruit (RRP $6.99, 1 litre) will give you both perfectly clean dishes AND peace of mind. For a neutral wash look no further than the fragrance-free alternative, ecostore Dish Liquid Ultra Sensitive (RRP $6.99, 1 litre).

By the way, did you know ecostore’s plastic packaging is made from renewable sugarcane? It’s 100% recyclable and helps to reduce your carbon footprint. Just another way ecostore is making everyday cleaning a little gentler on the world we live in.

Thankfully so as she is turning out to be a very messy eater, after a busy day she loves relaxing in the bath while I rinse of all that sticky goo. If you adore a squeaky clean baby too but you are worried about what you’re putting on your baby’s skin you’ll appreciate the gentle approach of Baby By Sia:

Zinki (RRP $27, 50ml) offers an effective little layer of protection in the shape of a gentle face and body lotion that is absorbed easily (no thick white paste like many other zinc products). The addition of natural gems like olive leaf extract, green tea extract and coconut oil ensures skin is left hydrated and nourished throughout the day.

Sip in style with Steely

Steely

When it comes to mealtimes our little miss Harriet is getting better by leaps and bounds. She now happily enjoys three small meals a day and her tongue tie is no longer causing any trouble, I am so glad we decided to go ahead with the procedure. She is also getting more confident with drinking from a cup and has sips of water throughout the day using this baby-friendly drink bottle by Steely:

Steely 6

The trendy Steely bottles and cups are made from strong, high-quality stainless steel making them not only stylish but safe too. Unlike many plastic bottles they are completely free from BPA and other nasties so they are the perfect healthy pick for parents who want only the best for their child and the environment (and surprisingly budget friendly!).

Steely 2

With Hattie’s initial feeding issues in mind we felt the Steely First Sipper (RRP $12.95, 4 months+) was a good starting point for independent drinking. The non-slip handles are the ideal size for small baby hands and the easy flow spout makes drinking a breeze, there is no super strong sucking required. I think the 250ml capacity is spot on for young babies, big enough to last the day without too many refills and small and light enough for them to hold.

Steely 5

Thanks to the durable 18/8 surgical stainless steel the water stays cool and fresh for longer and the material does not discolour or smell like plastic often does. One of my other favourite features is the ease of cleaning, the First Sipper comes apart in three separate pieces (cup, spout and ring) that can be cleaned in the dishwasher, less scrubbing for me!

To find out more about Childsmart and to browse the Steely range visit www.childsmart.com.au or get social with @Childsmart on FacebookInstagram or Twitter.
