They say good things are worth waiting for and the extra long wait is finally over! Now that COVID is ‘under control’ the red velvet curtains of Silvers Circus can reopen at last to reveal a fabulous circus treat that is sure to capture the hearts of young and old:

Showtime Attractions and Silvers Circus have joined forces to bring to Australia an exciting show filled with entertainment for the whole family, meet Sesame Street Circus Spectacular! Get ready to see Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and all your favourite Sesame Street characters like you have never seen them before.

Together with a range of talented circus performers from around the world they will treat the audience to a unique, authentic Sesame Street experience in a heartwarming 90-minute big top spectacular. Little fans will love watching their Sesame Street heroes, recognising their voices and seeing their personalities shine through in the different elements of this brilliant production.

To start the school holidays in style we took our tribe of kids to see the Sesame Street Circus Spectacular last night and it was a huge hit with the whole family! The little ones absolutely loved seeing Elmo and Abby Cadabby while the Wonder Dogs were a big favourite with all. The cheeky puppy who didn’t follow the rules had everyone giggling and when I asked the kids afterwards they said he was the star of the show.

The older kids were super impressed by Gypsy’s Hula Hoops (Did you know she can hula hoop with 80 hoops at once?) and sat on the edge of their seat watching the Globe Riders roar around the The Globe of Death on their motorbikes. One of our girls was so worried about their safety she burst out in tears, she was very relieved to see them drive away in one piece at the end of this heart-racing performance.

From the moment you arrive at the circus location you are truly stepping into the colourful world of Sesame Street. Before you even enter the big top you’ll spot Sesame Street themed cars and food vans, kids can enjoy a jump on a Sesame Street bouncy castle and you can even pose for a photo with hungry Cookie Monster or loveable Big Bird before/after the show!

The combination of Sesame Street’s friendly and familiar characters and Silvers’ talented performers is a winning mix, resulting in an engaging family experience that is inviting, interactive and captivating for everyone. From our cheeky 3-year old to our cool 12-year tweens, they all had a fantastic evening out. To treasure this great memory we brought home the Souvenir Programme and I know they can’t wait to take it to school and tell their class mates all about it.

As this amazing production travels around Australia the Sesame Street Circus Spectacular has put up its stripey tent in Adelaide’s Bonython Park until May 2, 2021 after which they will continue down south to Noarlunga. Perfect timing for the school holidays if you ask me! If you want to be guaranteed a slice of the Sesame Street fun be quick and secure your favourite seats through Ticketmaster, tickets for other locations will be added as they become available.

To find out more about Sesame Street Circus Spectacular, to take a closer look at the tour schedule and to book your tickets online visit www.sesamestreetcircus.com.au.

Thanks to our generous friends at Sesame Street Circus Spectacular one lucky family will win 4 Sesame Street Circus Spectacular tickets to enjoy the show at Bonython Park, Adelaide on Friday April 16, 2021 at 6.30pm. Adelaide Fringe 2020 ‘Hotel Paradiso’ giveaway

Feb 142020

I know it is hard to believe but in the almost fourteen years I have lived in South Australia, Australia’s Festival State, I have not once made it to the Adelaide Fringe. Things are about to change as we’re planning to celebrate Sybil’s birthday in style this weekend with a visit to a Fringe performance full of giggles, gasps and good old-fashioned family fun:

This year Lost in Translation, one of the UK’s leading contemporary circuses, is making its Adelaide Fringe debut combining theatre, comedy and music in one amazing show that is guaranteed to please the crowds. Hotel Paradiso is a winning mix of thrillingly spectacular and daring circus skills including incredible acrobatics, clowning and juggling, theatrical storytelling, slapstick and physical comedy, it certainly ticks all our boxes! They even use a person as a skipping rope, this has to be seen to be believed…

Come along to meet Madame and the charming staff of the quirkily ineffective Hotel Paradiso. Gathered from countries around the globe the Lost in Translation cast of six highly skilled acrobats, clowns and jugglers will tell the story of how the tenants battle to save their home and livelihood from ‘the Banker’. With thrills, gasps, laughs and drama there’s plenty for both adults and children to enjoy and the glowing reviews are coming in thick and fast: “Easily the best family show at the Fringe!”

Hotel Paradiso at Gluttony is suitable for ages 5 and up and it’s on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so check your calendar and lock in those seats.

To find out more about the Adelaide Fringe, to take a closer look at Hotel Paradiso and to order your tickets online visit www.adelaidefringe.com.au.

For your chance to win 1 of 2 Hotel Paradiso family passes (RRP $85, each pass admits 2 adults and 2 children OR 1 adult and 3 children) for the Sunday February 16 (2.50pm) performance hop on over to the Hip Little One Facebook page. Good luck!

Crocodile Creek

I am sure you know what it is like: It’s almost time for bed when your cheeky preschooler decides to tip out an entire box of LEGO (there goes your 7 o’clock bedtime goal) or it’s almost dinnertime yet the kids want to start watching a long movie. I’ve found the best way to avoid the drama is by grouping together a selection of games that are fast and easy, that way your little ones know exactly where to go when there is only half an hour to spare. Miss 4 loves giving her brains a quick work-out with Crocodile Creek:

Packed in a cute storage container this Crocodile Creek 4-piece Mini Puzzle (Ages 3+) is a great little ‘boredom buster in a box’ for toddlers and pre-schoolers. The large cardboard pieces are easy to hold for small hands and I love how sturdy the box stands upright, that way kids can refer to the box lid as they go to help them complete the picture.

The images are bright and interesting and the balance is exactly right: tricky enough to challenge them but also clear enough not to be confusing (and therefore frustrating) for young players. Miss 4 did not need any help at all and by the time she completed the puzzle dinner was ready, perfect timing. Miss just-turned-2 also gave the circus puzzle a try, but I think for now fewer pieces would be a better fit. I would say the recommend age of 3+ is spot on.

Crocodile Creek mini puzzles are available in loads of different designs for boys and girls and come in 12 and 24 pieces, so there is an awesome puzzle for every child. Their pleasant price tag make them a fabulous stocking filler or small gift for a special little someone in your life this Christmas, while the compact size is ideal for holiday backpacks and suitcases.

It’s been a while since I brought you an update on Ebulobo but today I’ve got news and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. A brand new delivery of Ebulobo toys has arrived from France and made it into the Coccinella store on Down That Little Lane, they’re soft, huggable and gorgeous as always and make the perfect buddy for your little one:

Super Monsieur Louloup

Even though he measures a very impressive 100cm in length this big wolf is far from scary. Kids will be running towards this cuddly Super Monsieur Louloup ($99.95) to give him a big squeeze and he has no big sharp teeth for grandma to worry about. Like all Ebulobo toys he is made with precious little bundles in mind, all of Europe’s strictest safety standards are met and he contains only safe and non-toxic elements for your peace of mind.

Trendy Monsieur LouloupWho said fairytales are old fashioned? Clearly this Trendy Monsieur Louloup (65cm, $59.95) knows his chances of eating Little Red Riding Hood for dinner are very small so he has brought along his mobile phone to order take away instead. Mr. Wolf has flexible long legs and arms that are the perfect size for little hands to hold on to and on his belly you’ll find a handy storage pouch for his phone, you didn’t know wolves could have pouches did you?

Little Bag BettyDo you remember Tightrope Betty from the Ebulobo Magic Circus Collection? Well she is back for another performance this season in the shape of this adorable Little Bag Betty ($39.95). Little girls can carry around there special treasures wherever they go in this sweet pink cord shoulder bag decorated with Betty in her pretty gold tutu. I’ve popped one of these away for my daughter’s upcoming birthday, she is going to love it!

Ebulobo WoodbearThis year Ebulobo has given old favourites Gustave, Louloup and Woodbear an extra snuggly makeover and transformed them into flat cuddly toys ($34.95), combining the eye catching look of Ebulobo toys with the soft, comfortable feel of snuggle blanket. Unlike with ordinary ’round’ soft toys there are less bumps and bulky shapes that could be uncomfortable to sleep on and it makes them more compact to pop in your bag too.

Salt City Emporium

It’s been while since I shared a gorgeous circus find but that doesn’t mean I have lost my soft spot for everything carnival. The carnival makes little ones happy and excited and it makes ‘old’ people feel young again. Last week I spotted these adorable carnival arrivals at Baby Donkie and I think they look fantastic:

Orchid Carnival Head WrapMini fashionistas who don’t mind standing out from the crowd are sure to love the above pictured Carnival Drop Pant ($42, size 0-6m – 4y) in a pretty orchid colour. It looks super comfy, easy to put on and off and I love the quirky ‘lady with the beard’ print, very funky. The range also offers matching accessories for street smart kids, how fabulous are these Orchid Carnival Head Wraps ($12)? I know my curly haired 3-year old would totally rock this look.

Strong Man Slouch BeanieThe Chartreuse Skinny Leggings ($40, size 0-6m – 4y) look awesome on this cool little dude matched up with the screen printed Strong Man Tee, you can also buy the strong man design as a onesie in smaller sizes. Roadshow Entertainment

After publishing our Silvers Circus giveaway last week I received lots of lovely comments from excited readers keen to attend the show but also some disappointed messages from people who live too far away to go see all the excitement for themselves. Sadly I can’t change the locations of the tour but I might be able to turn that frown upside down with todays dose of circus fun, to be enjoyed in your very own living room:

Toby's Travelling Circus

If your little ones love watching ABC4Kids as much as mine do it is very likely that you already know lovable ringmaster Toby and his cheeky monkey Momo. Together with hilarious clowns Freddo and Clara, clever acrobats Li and Ling, talented musician and one-man-band Jango and of course strongman Thor Toby’s Travelling Circus brings laughter, excitement, cheers and spectactle wherever it goes.

Toby's Travelling Circus DVDCreated with pre-school aged children (3-6 years old) in mind the animated show is fun, positive and entertaining, teaching young children an important message of friendship, teamwork, problem solving and helping eachother. Thanks to Roadshow Entertainment little circus fanatics can now watch Toby’s Travelling Circus when, where and as often as they like (or when mum just needs a quick break) with a brand new DVD called Toby’s Travelling Circus: Roll Up, Roll Up!.

We have our very own comedian at home

We have our very own comedian at home

Toby’s Travelling Circus: Roll Up, Roll Up!, which will be released this week, contains 80 minutes of circus fun spread out over 8 bite-size episodes (perfect for when you’re hanging up the washing, putting the shopping away or doing the dishes). We have not seen all the episodes just yet but so far the favourite is Twin Trouble where twins Li and Ling compete for the best act and learn that it’s okay not to be the best (always a hot topic with our twins). I also love the lesson of Thor the strongman who owns up after accidentally breaking Dolores’ book, showing kids that honesty is always best.
