When you have a big family like ours there is sometimes no other choice but to split everyone up and do things separately. Sometimes you win and you get to go the movies with the older kids, other times you lose and you have to do the grocery shopping with the little ones but that’s OK. Recently hip Daddy was the lucky one to take the kids to see Peter Rabbit on the big screen and they had the best time, while my afternoon was a lot less fun. Don’t worry, I am catching up this week with Peter Rabbit being released on DVD:

Whether you have been a long time Beatrix Potter fan or have only just discovered this cheeky rabbit, Peter Rabbit has hopped straight into the hearts of people of all ages with this gorgeous new feature adaption of a Beatrix Potter’s classic:

There is nothing shy about Peter Rabbit! The bold, brave and boisterous (or should I say mischievous) bunny is the leader of the pack and tends to get his bunny buddies into a lot of trouble. Just when he thought his long-lasting feud with Mr. McGregor had finally come to an end and they would have free reign of the bountiful veggie garden new owner Thomas moves into the property and it looks like the bunnies will be banned for good.

Thankfully there is the warm and welcoming neighbour, a kind artist called Bea, who has a real soft spot for the adorable rabbits and she is determined to protect their home. With a big sprinkle of humor, a dash of romance and lots of animal antics Peter Rabbit is sure to please the whole family.

Peter Rabbit is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD at all good retail stores across Australia.

Into The Woods

With four children under seven we generally limit our cinema visits to real children’s movies. Movie tickets don’t come cheap so when we do go we want to make sure it is appropriate and fun for the whole family (I think hubby and I only went to the movies together twice in almost 10 years!). While we liked the sound of Disney‘s Into The Woods ourselves we decided our kids were a bit too young to watch it, so we’ve been hanging out for the DVD release instead and now it’s finally here. Time for a date night in I’d say!

Into The Woods is not just another recount of a famous favourite tale, it’s a magical and musical mix of several classic fairytales skilfully woven together by acclaimed filmmaker Rob Marshall (the mastermind behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”). Featuring a range of big movie stars like Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and more Into The Woods is sure to impress. Get ready to be surprised by all the unexpected twists and turns!

Into The Woods Blu-rayFollow the story of the childless baker and his wife who are desperate to lift the curse placed on them by a mean witch. Her demands include a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn and a slipper as pure as gold, not exactly things you find on every street corner. During their search they meet Jack, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel and learn some valuable life lessons. Will their dream finally come true?

Into the Woods is available on DVD ($39.95) and Blu-ray ($49.95) at major retailers across Australia.

Like many other mums I often count on feedback from other parents to work our what movies are worth seeing with, and appropriate for, our children. After reading through a Facebook feed full of praise for Big Hero 6 we decided to treat our big three to a fun afternoon at the local cinema to see this great Disney movie on the big screen:

Big Hero 6Taking home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2015 Big Hero 6, made by the talented team behind Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, has proven to be an enormous hit. The futuristic comedy adventure tells the story of Hiro Hamada, a super talented 14-year old designer of microbots, and a huge inflatable robot called Baymax who develop a special friendship after the death of Hiro’s brother.

When the lovable duo discovers that someone has stolen Hiro’s microbots they set off to solve this evil mystery. Hiro and Baymax, together with interesting characters Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred, form Big Hero 6. Who is controlling the microbots? Did Hiro’s brother die in vain? Will Big Hero 6 be able to turn bad into good after all?

While I think Big Hero 6 is possibly better suited to slightly older children our 6-year old twins did really enjoy Big Hero 6 and (to my surprise) managed to pick up quite a bit of the story line. Our 4-year old was definitely a bit too young to understand the events but she thought Baymax was very funny and she is keen to see the movie again, which means it’s thumbs up from all!

Big Hero 6 is available on DVD ($39.95) and Blu-ray ($49.95) at major retailers across Australia.

Maya the Bee

With four young children there is always lots of pretend play happening in our home and I love listening to them acting out their own imaginary stories. Often their little performances are rather interesting and very funny, just this week I heard miss 4 declare: I am a naughty hornet and I am going to catch you! I can see someone has been inspired by the lovely Maya the Bee

Maya the Bee Movie

A few months ago hubby took the 3 older kids to see the Maya the Bee Movie on the big screen whilst I took our wriggly 1-year old for some shopping. Featuring the voice of Justine Clarke, the Play School favourite every child in Australia knows and loves, as Maya I had no doubt they would give this Maya’s latest adventure the thumbs up and they all loved it.

Maya the Bee PlushIf you missed seeing Maya at the movies you’ll be pleased to know that she is ready to buzz into living rooms around the country too, the Maya the Bee Movie (RRP $19.99) is now available on DVD at retailers across Australia. Join your friends from the hive and help solve the mystery of the missing Royal Jelly… Does Maya have something to do with this? Everyone seems to think so but luckily Maya, with the help of her loyal friend Willy, miss Cassandra and a friendly hornet, is able to prove her innocence and expose the real thief.

Maya the Bee

Like all grandmas and grandpas my parents love spoiling our four children, sadly due to the distance they only get to do so when we visit them in The Netherlands (once every 2-3 years) which is when they go all out with lovely outings, yummy treats and cool gifts. A big hit with all of our kids was the big box of Maya the Bee figurines that my mum saved up for them, they love watching Maya the Bee on ABC4Kids and now they can act out their own stories at home too.

Maya and her friends flew in from The Netherlands

If your children can’t get enough of this loveable little bee either you’ll be pleased to hear that ABC shops are now buzzing with an exclusive range of Maya the Bee products. A gorgeous collection of plush Maya toys, Maya collectable figurines, an interactive Good Night Maya toy, bath figurines and Maya the Bee DVDs have arrived in the meadow, go check them out at your local ABC store or online at www.abcschop.com.

Maya The Bee Plush

Maya and Willy off on another adventure

Maya the Bee PlushWhile kids obviously need to stay clear from real bees with nasty stingers, they can cuddle this sweet Maya Plush Toy (RRP $29.99, 30cm) as much as they want. She is soft, round and huggable and had nice long legs and arms that are easy for little hands to hold on to, she even has wings so with a bit of imagination she can fly too. Personally I love the smaller, but just as cuddly, Maya Plush Toy (RRP $19.99, 20cm), it’s the perfect size for backpacks, car trips and doctor visits and our little miss 1 loves carrying Maya around (under supervision).

Maya the Bee Plush WillyWith three sisters our son often has to settle for girls toys so it’s good to see boys can adopt a bee friend too. Maya’s friend Willy is available in two different sizes Willy Plush Toy (RRP $29.99, 30cm) and Willy Plush Toy (RRP $19.99, 20cm) and although Maya is usually the hero of the story he is an excellent helper during their adventures. Yesterday I heard one of the kids ask: ‘Where is your Willy?’, very glad to discover they were just playing Maya! All plush Maya toys are suitable for ages 3+.

Maya the Bee FigurinesLittle Maya the Bee fans will love collecting the Maya Collectable Figurines (RRP $9.99, 2-pack), they’re fun, affordable and compact (ca. 9-10cm tall) and encourage children to use their imagination and storytelling skills. With arms and legs that really move and a head that can turn these sweet figurines are very realistic. There are 4 different sets to collect, each 2-pack contains Maya the Bee and one of her animal friends.

Maya the Bee MovieTo celebrate the brand new feature film Maya the Bee Movie, which will hit cinemas across Australia on Saturday November 1, we have one family movie pass (admits 4) for the Maya the Bee Movie to give away to a very lucky reader.
