As a mum of six little ones I have experienced my fair shares of allergies, intolerances and sensitivities so I wasn’t exactly surprised to discover our little Ted is struggling in that department too. So far we are not having any luck finding a food he doesn’t react to (aside from breastmilk), with his chubby baby body covered in angry red rashes and dry patches after every try. Eczema runs in the family so I was super interested to get stuck into this eye-opening guide by Karen Fischer:

As a successful nutritionist and mother of an eczema-sufferer, and after working with eczema patients for more than 15 years, Karen Fischer knows first hand the impact eczema can have on your life, but also how much of a difference your diet can make in managing it. On a mission to ban nasty skin rashes and fight the eczema misery she has created The Eczema Detox (RRP $34.99), a life-changing book that combines the science behind food choices and the way they affect on your skin with delicious skin-happy recipes for eczema patients of all ages.

Filled with loads of healthy, nutritious recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, snacks and even drinks changing to this low-chemical diet for eliminating skin inflammation is a piece of cake. The book will use some of your pantry staples but also introduce you to new flavours and ingredients that will help improve your skin and wellbeing. We’ve been testing some of  these treats at home and I can highly recommend the Steamed Salmon with Maple Dressing, the Protein Smoothie Bowl, the Sweet Potato Stack and Banana Carob Icy Poles.

Only released last month ‘The Eczema Detox’ has been such a huge hit that is already out of stock and currently undergoing a re-print. Don’t miss out on your chance to ditch the itch and pre-order your copy today, new stock is due to arrive in April.

I totally get it, after five babies my friends and family really don’t know what to get us anymore for baby no.6. Baby’s wardrobe is already filled with gorgeous clothes and we are fully kitted out with pram, carrier, car seat and other baby gear, all that is left is for baby to grow bigger and stronger before its arrival in September.

However one thing you can always make me, and any other expecting parent, very happy with is a new supply of ecostore goodies. As a big family of ecostore-fans who uses their natural skin, boy and haircare products every single day we always welcome a stock-up, I think it makes the perfect baby shower gift:

ecostore has lovingly developed a fabulous range of baby products that are gentle on your precious bundle and kind on the environment too. Wave goodbye to yucky chemicals, synthetic dyes and perfumes, mineral oils and other hard-to-pronounce ingredients and go green with ecostore. Of course it is not just a great choice for little ones, our whole family uses ecostore Baby Body Wash (RRP $8.99, 200ml). It’s soft on the skin and the lavender/geranium scent is not too overwhelming.

ecostore has your daily clean covered: we used the Baby Body Wash in the shower and for the kids’ bath we add a splash of playful bubbles with the ecostore Bubble Bath (RRP $8.99, 200ml) for extra fun. Hopefully the soothing ecostore Sleepytime Bath (RRP $8.99, 200ml) lives up to its name and will help us get some much-needed sleep when baby has arrived! Did you know the ingredients used in these bath products are so gentle that with proper greywater systems in place your bath water can even be re-used on your flower gardens, lawns and trees?

ecostore Baby Shampoo (RRP $8.99, 200ml) is a plant-based formula that cleanses your child’s hair whilst carefully protecting its natural properties at the same time, it gently strips away the dirt but not the important natural oils. A small amount goes a long way so a 200ml bottle lasts ages, especially if you only have a fine layer of baby hair to wash (unless our new baby surprises us all and is born with a full head of hair!).

I know the ecostore Baby Moisturiser (RRP $9.99, 200ml) was officially created for babies but I often reach for this nourishing moisturiser for my own sensitive pregnant mama-skin too. It is absorbed quickly and the light fragrance is really pleasant and not too strong. Once our baby has been born I can hold him/her close to my skin without worrying about what the baby is breathing in, if it is safe for baby it is safe for me too! This moisturiser is also perfect for a post-bath massage.

It may be small in size and in price but the ecostore Baby Soap Goat’s Milk & Lavender (RRP $2.99, 80g) is by far one of my best finds. This soft, creamy and natural soap is ideal for our older kids who wash hands countless times a day, there is no allergic reaction like they experience with many popular liquid handsoaps (and a block of soap is a lot less wasteful) plus I know they won’t be transferring yucky chemical nasties when they touch our tiny newborn.

To be honest I think the ecostore Nappy Balm (RRP $9.99, 60ml) could do with a new name, as this little jar of magic can be used for so many more things than red bottoms. Yes it does work wonders for nappy rash, but it can also bring welcome relief for cradle cap and other little skin problems, it is one of my first go-to products when our children’s skin is playing up. ecostore Nappy Balm is a wonderful non-greasy, non-staining barrier cream that helps protect your baby’s skin the natural way.

About three months ago our oldest daughter was diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin condition that unfortunately runs in the family. Sadly there is no cure for this nasty condition and she will most likely be bothered by it to different degrees for the rest of her life. Luckily things have improved considerably since her diagnosis and she is less bothered by it at the moment (the tears were heartbreaking). We specifically noticed a huge improvement after removing certain toiletries and soaps from our home so a drastic overhaul of our bathroom cabinet was in order.

Ecostore Baby range

If you are looking for a clean, chemical free alternative for your baby’s bath and skincare products look no further than Ecostore. In creating their products Ecostore gives priority to plant and mineral based ingredients that are from natural and or renewable resources, are biodegradable and have the lowest hazard rating in terms of health and environmental safety. This means you can be sure you are not putting any harmful chemicals on your little one’s (or your own!) skin, after all we all want only the best for our family.

Ecostore Baby Sleepytime BathThe current Ecostore Baby range consists of seven great products for bath time and nappy changes. All products are suitable from birth onwards so you can keep your pure and perfect bundle clean and buttersoft without subjecting him or her to the nasties found in a lot of other brands. Whether it’s a fun and playful bubble bath with Ecostore’s Bubble Bath ($8.99, 200ml) or a relaxing soak with Sleepytime Bath ($8.99, 200ml), Ecostore knows exactly how to unwind at the end of the day, the eco way.

Ecostore Baby ShampooOf course in the early days plain water is all you need at bath time but if you do want a gentle hand with cleaning you can wash your baby from top to toe with Ecostore’s Baby Shampoo ($8.99, 200ml) and Baby Bodywash ($8.99, 200ml). For your peace of mind Ecostore goes beyond what the law requires and clearly lists all ingredients on their products, they are proud of their ingredient choices and are happy to explain where they come from and what they do.

Ecostore Baby SoapIf you prefer a block of soap as opposed to liquids do not worry, Ecostore has got you covered too with this lovely Baby Soap ($2.99, 80g). I can not believe how ridiculously cheap and amazing this product is, it proves that you can make greener and cleaner choices without breaking the bank (Why not add some to your next baby shower or newborn baby gift?). Ecostore Baby Soaps maintains the protective layer in your baby’s sensitive skin and it’s not only safe for your baby, being grey-water friendly it is gentle on the environment too.

Ecostore Baby MoisturiserWith your baby squeaky clean from the bath now is the perfect time to get out the Ecostore Baby Moisturiser ($9.99, 200ml). After a busy day of running around make sure you enjoy some special one-on-one time with your little one, massaging this lovely light moisturiser all over your baby’s body is a great way to relax and calm down before bed and it will keep his/her skin nice and soft. You only need a small amount so the 200ml will go a long way!

Ecostore Baby Nappy BalmOne of my personal favourites from the Ecostore baby range is the Baby Nappy Balm ($9.99, 60ml), a lovely fragrance free barrier cream that has multiple uses. From sore, red bottoms to flaky cradle crap and from dry patches to little scrapes, this soothing cream will come in handy more often than you think. At 60ml this convenient little jar holds plenty of cream for many nappy changes and is a great size for your baby bag. I love the soft and smooth feel of this cream compared to the sticky, glue-like consistency of many other bottom balms.

Snails - Safe Nails

As a mum of three little girls I know it is inevitable, sooner or later they will start asking me for ‘paint’ on their nails just like mummy. In all honesty I am not a big fan of make up or nail polish on little girls, from putting their fingers in their mouths to having to use nail polish remover to take the polish off the thought of nasty chemicals being sucked at or eaten is really making me feel sick. The solution to this problem has just arrived in Australia, check out Snails – Safe Nails:

Regular Hip little one readers will know that our household has been battling eczema and other skin conditions, our youngest child in particular is always scratching which is heartbreaking to see. Over time we have worked out a few of the triggers, some of them we can avoid but others you simply can’t. Like many other parents we have learnt the hard way that harsh skincare products are disastrous for baby’s skin so we only welcome natural products in our home.

Australian company Brauer Naturals has heard the call from worried parents and developed a range of natural baby skincare products that is eczema friendly and gentle on sensitive skin. Created with natural ingredient like paw paw, chamomile and honey these products will leave your baby feeling soft and smelling delicious, without the worry of nasty chemicals and artificial fragrances.

The Brauer Naturals Baby range consists of 6 great products that cover your little ones from top to bottom and from morning to night. For in the bathroom there are Baby Bath + Body Wash, Baby Shampoo and Baby Sleepytime Bath, Baby Nappy Balm and Baby Soft Skin Lotion are must-haves for on the changetable and last but not least there is the Baby Massage Oil for those special one-on-one moments.

As a mum of two little girls and a boy I am very aware of the difference between washing long hair or short hair, a head full of tangled hair can really ruin a fun bath or shower run. The Baby Shampoo leaves my girls’ hair easy to manage afterwards so we can enjoy the happy faces a little longer. And between you and me, I always take just a bit too much of the Baby Soft Skin Lotion so I can use the ‘excess’ myself after moisturising the kids.

For some extra smiles and giggles each Brauer Naturals Baby product comes with a free bath duck, there is a whole duck family to collect. Now the great thing about Brauer Naturals Baby is that, on top of a happy baby and happy mum, it leaves your wallet healthy too as the products have a very gentle $11.49 price tag.
