That's MY Story

Last year I introduced you to That’s MY Story, a colourful pack of story telling cards that encourages kids (and their parents) to use their imagination and make up their own adventures. After the success of the original That’s My Story cards Australian mother and creator Melissa got stuck into a brand new project to bring the excitement of story telling into your bathroom:

That's MY Story Bathtime

Turn the daily chore of bath time into a fun game with That’s MY Story Bathtime (RRP $18.95). The new Bathtime pack consists of 21 foam bath stickers and a practical mesh storage pack that simple sticks onto your bathroom wall with suction caps. The stickers are (obviously) waterproof, washable and reusable so you can use them day in day out.

That's MY Story Bathtime GreenThe foam bath stickers have different pictures, shapes and colours and each colour/shape represents a different category: Characters, Settings and Objects. So how do you play? Randomly choose one of each category and let your imagination do the rest, what will your story be today? There are so many combinations possible and you can keep building your adventure by adding new stickers to the story.

Featuring easily recognisable images like a police officer, a ball, a plane, a teacher, a rainbow, a present and lots more the That’s MY Story Bathtime stickers can be enjoyed by young children too. There are no reading skills required and even if your children are too young to create their own stories they can still use the bath time stickers to learn about colours and shapes.

That's MY Story

As if preparing for Christmas is not enough work as it is many mums also need to get organised for the upcoming school holidays. Six weeks is a long time and whether you are boarding a plane, hitting the road or ‘just’ staying home you will need to keep the kids entertained somehow. If you’re smart you can kill two birds with one stone by choosing presents that the kids will enjoy long after Christmas day, like this fabulous Australian game called That’s MY Story:

Thats-MY-Story

That’s MY Story Card Game ($16.95)

Developed by learning expert and mum of two Melissa That’s MY Story ($16.95, ages 3+) is a simple yet very fun and effective storytelling game that will help children and adults to create the most amazing stories. Most children love listening to and making up their own stories, but many parents (me included) struggle at times to come up with fresh storylines. Time for a little help in the shape of 47 colourful That’s MY Story cards in a handy storage tin.

That's MY Story CardEach That’s MY Story card plays a role in your yet to be invented story: Begin with a Story Starter (eg. Did you ever hear the story of, It all started when…), add in a Character (eg. Doctor, Dinosaur, Fairy, Girl, Policeman), decide on the Setting (eg. School, Shop, Party, Circus), flavour the tale with a ‘Wild’ card (eg. Soccer Ball, Rainbow, Backpack), decide on your ending with the Story Closer card and finish by holding up the Harlequin card to claim ownership of your very own story.

There are so many different cards and the combinations are endless so this is a game that never gets old. The cards feature both pictures and descriptions, so it is also fun for young children who can not yet read and will help those learning to read to connect the words and pictures. Instructions are included and if you are looking for other ways to play with the cards check out these great game suggestions, lots of cool ideas and all with one single pack of cards.

Keep all cards neatly together in the handy storage tin

The cards pack up neatly together in the That’s MY Story tin making it a perfect game for the car, train, plane or holiday, just pop it in your handbag and pull it out when boredom strikes. Priced at just $16.95 this makes a fun, educational and very affordable Christmas gift that might just save your sanity these school holidays.

eeBoo

Last year during our holiday in The Netherlands my family introduced us to a fabulous card game for grown ups called Set, we absolutely loved it and have played it so many times since then. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a very similar game called Categories which is created especially for children, I knew we had to have it. I put my order in straight away and for the past week we have played it every evening, the kids just can’t get enough of it!

Categories ($24.95) by eeBoo is designed for ages 5 and up, but our almost 3-year is quite good at it too and needs just a little bit of help. The game consists of 60 picture cards and that’s it, no dice, no board, no tricky rules. The aim of the game is to make categories by collecting sets of three cards that have something in common. Can you find three pigs or three cats, three things with wheels or three pieces of food, three characters with a hat or three balls?

Itty Bitty BoxThe great thing is that each card belongs to multiple categories, so while kids may not spot every ‘set’ they are likely to find at least one common factor which keeps it fun for everyone. I also like that players take turns, that way every child gets a fair chance and you don’t have to be fast to be able to win. At the end of the game the person with the most categories wins. Categories and other great eeBoo games are available from Itty Bitty Box.

Right now you can save 20% storewide at Itty Bitty Box simply enter the code ‘SCHOOL’ at checkout. Offer ends July 29, 2013.

Minimals

Only one week to go until Mother’s Day, time to get organised if you aren’t already. While your is husband is (hopefully) working on a way to make your day extra special it is probably your job to sort the presents for your mother and mother-in-law. In our house that is definitely my responsibility and I think I’ve got it all under control this year. All that was missing was a sweet card and preferably not one with a dorky, non-personal poem. Luckily I stumbled upon the very stylish Minimals range.

Originally we had planned to spend the Easter long weekend in Melbourne, visiting family and enjoying all that is on offer in this big Australian city that I know so little about. But with kids there are always unexpected developments so we had to pass on exploring Melbourne, for now that is. I don’t know much about Melbourne so it is hard for me to know where to find the best kids friendly spots, luckily there is the Little Eats website to help me find my way.

Little Eats is a fantastic way to discover the best baby, toddler and child friendly cafes in Melbourne. Mum of two Jemma puts some of Melbourne’s hippest hot spots under the loop to test them for all the things that make them family friendly. From highchairs and changing facilities to easy pram access and kids menus and from the kid-friendliness of the staff and play areas to activities, toys and entertainment and of course prices and opening hours, Jemma knows exactly what to look for so if a place gets her tick of approval you know you are in for a real treat.

Cafe Secrets Melbourne is a deck of 52 cards featuring 52 of Jemma’s favourite child friendly cafes, one for every week of the year. All cafes have been road-tested and approved by the Little Eats family and are suitable spots for cafe culture loving little ones. Priced at just $9.95 this compact deck of cards is a must-have for modern Melbourne parents who enjoy going out with kids and a great gift suggestion for new parents too.
