This Sunday we are sitting down for a virtual coffee with Lou from Budburst Kids. I have had the pleasure of meeting Lou personally twice now and she is absolutely gorgeous and so very friendly. Budburst Kids is a lovely online store and I have always been really pleased with my orders, a real bonus for me is that Lou lives in South Australia too so my mail arrives in the blink of an eye!

Sadly I can not introduce her to you in person but at least I can show you the face behind Budburst Kids:

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
A sunny day, pancakes for breakfast on the balcony, a family walk through the nearby Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens, and drinks with friends in the afternoon.

Why did you start Budburst Kids?
After selling kids clothing on Ebay as a hobby for several years, I found many Australian suppliers that I wanted to showcase in my own store where I could sell quality products at great prices, but with my individual style and beliefs shining through. Having previously worked in the viticulture industry, I loved the process of “bud burst” where the bud of a plant begins to spring into life and comes into its own; much like a child developing and growing. So “Budburst Kids” was born along with our slogan, “See your child bloom!”

What can we expect of Budburst Kids in the future?
Budburst Kids continues to expand and grow. Expect to find more and more gorgeous dresses, accessories, toys and gifts for kids & mums, plus more fun party wear – because kids love a party!

What is your favourite item in store?
I have many favourites but I just love the MOGO charm band range as it is inexpensive, extensive and suitable for boys, girls and even Mum!

What is your top tip for mums preparing for a new arrival?
I can only narrow it down to two top tips:
1. Buy a maternity dress you love, that makes you feel beautiful right up until the baby comes along, it will do wonders for your self esteem when you need it most!
2. Be prepared for a tough (but beautiful) start to motherhood. I think that if you make it through the first six weeks with a smile, you can get through any of it!

We all know florals can look a little old fashioned and grandma-ish but Australian label Poppy Lou has managed to pull off the country style with great success. I spotted some of the new Poppy Lou designs at Budburst Kids and have fallen in love instantly.

How gorgeous is this Poppy Lou Country Classic Quilt Comforter ($59.95)? It features a lovely combination of sweet little flowers and stripes in pink and green tones and even a touch of blue. The scallop edging adds a soft feminine touch and the reverse side shows a petite floral print on a white background. This comforter would look fantastic in a nursery and as your little girl gets bigger she can enjoy it as a playmat or even picnic rug for all those tea parties.

You might know Poppy Lou from their signature bag range, officially they are called nappy bags any woman could carry one of these stylish bag with or without baby goodies inside. They are designed right in here Australia and made with the highest quality materials and close attention to detail. Poppy Lou bags are available in lots of different styles and sizes but this divine Satchel Shoulder Bag ($149.95) is by far my favourite.

Florals really are for girls of all ages, these Vintage Collection Aprons are seriously cute and you can buy them in a ladies and toddlers size. Surely they make cooking, baking, painting and other messy jobs a lot more enjoyable. These hip Poppy Lou aprons are made from PVC so they are super easy to clean, just wipe them down and they are as good as new. Other prints are available in store.

Whether you are celebrating Christmas with a lunch or dinner, and whether you are getting together at your house or at friends or family, someone has spent a lot of time preparing a beautiful meal and everyone wants it to be a success. Adults are usually polite enough to eat what is on the menu but young children don’t always like what is served on their plates which can cause an embarassing and unpleasant drama. For some fantastic tips and tricks to bring some smiles to the table take a look at these fabulous Fred products from Budburst Kids.

Of course the concept of making faces with your food is nothing new, but it doesn’t work that well if you are not very creative and your child can not recognise what you made. For those people the Fred Mr Food Face ($19.95) is the answer, this ceramic plate features a fun face ready to be turned into an edible personality. Carrot eyebrows, potato mash hair, a tomato nose, there are no rules and endless options.

A girl version is available too, so there is no need to fight and maybe the kids can swap some days? Both styles come packaged in a gorgeous box ready to be gifted, each box shows some yummy serving suggestions to get you started. For once having food on your face is not such a bad thing! I love how  spaghetti makes long hair, my oldest daughter would love it (Warning: Dinner might just take a little longer because kids will enjoy having a little play themselves too).

If your boy is not so much into delicate arts but more into the real fist work he might prefer the Fred Chewdriver Cutlery Set ($19.95). The set contains three magnetic utensils that simply snap into the tool handle, your little worker can do the digging, shoveling and lifting himself. So do yourself a favour and pop one of these Fred gifts under your tree, they will make your Christmas lunch or dinner fun for little ones too.

Earlier this week I received my latest Budburst Kids order and everything was beautiful as always. I have been lucky enough to meet owner Lou twice now and it makes the shopping even better knowing who is behind this great store. Lou is always looking for exciting new products for Budburst Kids and recently she became the very first retailer in Australia to stock Dutch label Streep & Co.

Streep & Co. has picked up on everything mums like, love and need starting with a stylish, timeless design: classic stripes and uni coloured garments in traditional colours that do not date or go out of fashion, they are super easy to mix and match. Then there is durability and ease: each style is designed to be comfortable, easy to put on and off and the fabric and fit stay beautiful and soft wash after wash.

Speaking of the fabric, Streep & Co. garments are made of high quality, organic cotton so it is an ideal choice for the environment, children and mums. Yes, mums, because the Streep & Co. range even caters for ladies! Aside from the babies and children’s designs Budburst Kids also sells the Streep & Co. Ladies Tunic ($39.95) and Tops ($34.95). Currently available in navy, red and taupe stripe these are great items to wear with a nice pair of jeans for a simple and stylish look.

The Streep & Co. Kids collection consists of long and short sleeve bodysuits, tees, dresses, pants and a kimono suit as well as matching accessories like scarves, bandana’s, baby blankets and comforters. There are more than 10 colour options to choose from and sizes range from newborn to 4-5 years old. The look and feel might be expensive but unlike most organic products this label is very affordable, prices start at just $12.95.

If your preferred style, size or colour is not in stock simply let Lou know and she can put your name down for a preorder. As half Dutchies my children started wearing Streep & Co. in 2009 and the clothing still looks fantastic, even after three children and plenty of washes. Of course several more pieces have been added to their wardrobes since then and I always get the loveliest comments when they wear their stripes.
