As a busy mum of six little ones there is sadly very little time to put up my feet and enjoy a good book. When I do get a few spare minutes to read I must choose wisely, therefore I keep a list of books that have come highly recommended by people I value and one of the titles at the top on my to-read list is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

I know the rule is ‘read the book first, then watch the movie’ but as far as I know there’s no rule about watching a play… time to check out the stage-adaption of this international bestseller at Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre:

Masterfully adapted by two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was the longest-running play on Broadway in over a decade and has raked in a massive 5 Tony Awards® and 7 Olivier Awards. As part of a big international tour it is currently Australia’s turn to see this remarkable, eye-opening novel brought to life on stage by a super talented full British and Irish cast.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher Boone, a teenager with an autism spectrum condition who has an extraordinary brain that is exceptional at math but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers.

When his neighbour’s dog Wellington is killed suspicion quickly falls on Christopher and after initially being arrested he is released with a police warning. Against his father’s wishes Christopher starts investigating the dog’s murder in the hope of identifying the true culprit. Christopher’s mission takes him on a journey that upturns his world… The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a global theatrical phenomenon that simply must not be missed.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is currently playing in Sydney, after which the show will take to the stage in Adelaide on July 31 and finally close the curtains in Perth on August 19, 2018.
