Take it from this mum of six, if you’re planning a fun Christmas escape or road trip you might want to put together a special ‘holiday backpack’ for your little travellers. I always plan ahead and pack a range of boredom busters to get us to our holiday destination without going crazy: a notebook with pens/markers, a toy for pretend play, a game to play alone or with siblings, some snacks, a puzzle/brain teaser and of course a good read. The new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book would be perfect for your upcoming Christmas vacation:
Today’s book review is brought to you by Tommie (9 years old):
Read more about your favourite teenager Gregory Heffley in the action packed adventure Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway (RRP $14.99). Middle schooler Greg is looking forward to a traditional Heffley Christmas in front of the fire while Dad’s shovelling the drive in the cold, but instead he finds himself on a strange and faraway island where his parents want to ‘relive their honeymoon’. At first Isla de Corales with its beautiful hotels and good service doesn’t look that bad, except it seems that the whole world has decided to come celebrate Christmas on the small island!
It wouldn’t be a true Diary of a Wimpy Kid hit without a bunch of strange surprises, funny hiccups, silly incidents and loads of laughs. From venomous critters and painful sunburn to stomach trouble and a suitcase mix-up, it looks like the holiday is heading for distaster. Will Greg be able to stop Christmas turning into crisis?
I enjoyed this book because it’s really funny and interesting learning about Greg’s life in an awesome novel by one of the world’s best writers and drawers, Jeff Kinney. I think people my age will love this new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, it is one of my favourite book series.
