VTech

With a brand new baby in the house and yucky viruses keeping us indoors, the school holidays were definitely not as exciting as they could have been. Although there were very few fun outings or special trips the kids still managed to pick up a whole heap of interesting facts from all around the world, without even leaving the house! Here’s how to make little ones world-wise with VTech:

With its bright colours and eye catching lights the large VTech Light & Flight Discovery Globe (RRP $59.95, ages 3-6) is inviting curious kids of all ages to go on an exciting journey around the world. Fasten your seatbelt and off we go…

Using the green joystick on the right little travellers can make their way around the Light & Flight Discovery Globe, stopping on exotic locations, explore deep oceans, visit faraway countries and discover different people, animals, landmarks and more. With 5 different modes of play and 37 hot spots for your aeroplane to land on there is plenty of learning to do, who knew a first geography lesson could be so much fun?

Miss 4 and miss 7 are a perfect example of the succes of ‘learning through play’, thanks to this awesome rotating interactive globe they are learning about the world’s continents and oceans, where certain people live and what you call them, they are even improving their language skills. Can you say hello in Portugese or thank you in Spanish? Where would you find the Niagara Falls and what do you call people from France? By the way, did you know Russia is in both Asia and Europe?

The Light & Flight Discovery Globe features one easy-to-use dial (to select your chosen mode of play) and one enter button, so it doesn’t take young kids long at all to get the hang of it. Once miss 4 worked out what each picture on the dial stands for she was off ‘unaccompanied minor’ style in no time! Being able to play without needing adult help really gives kids a feeling of independence and in the meantime I can catch up on my chores, double win.

The Light & Flight Discovery Globe is also a great tool to teach kids to carefully listen to instructions and the joy of finding the correct answer to a question. Repetition in the shape of a quiz helps children memorise their new-found knowledge and store it away for later. The kids are so busy playing that they don’t even realise they are learning as they go! Seeing miss 7 later look up certain countries from the globe in our children’s atlas proves it’s really sparked an interest, I call that a big success.

VTech toys are available at major department stores, select online stores and independent toy retailers across Australia.
