One of my family’s favourite things to do on the weekend is to head outdoors, there is just so much to see and hear in our Australian backyard if you keep your eyes and ears wide open. As a foreigner I feel especially blessed to live in this amazing country (I will never get sick of waking up to the song of the kookaburra!) and I am always excited to show family and friends around when they visit. Talented artist Gwyn Perkins has done an awesome job capturing some of Australia’s most wonderful wildlife in his very first picture book:
Come join Grandad and little Iggy as they go for A Walk in the Bush (RRP $24.99), I wonder what they’ll spot on the way? From the distinctive sounds of Aussie birds to the quiet of little streams, from large hoppy creatures to tiny insect tracks, from stunning lookouts over impressive hills to the fragrant smell of the eucalyptus tree and so much more, what’s not to love about going on an adventure with a special person you love.
Words can not describe how delightful Gwyn’s illustrations are, they are detailed and fun, friendly and warm and really speak to young readers. ‘A Walk in the Bush’ shows that you don’t need many words to capture a child’s attention and get their minds working. This gorgeous picture book is an absolute treat for little Aussies and would make a fantastic souvenir for children living overseas too.
