Like most mums I sometimes get overwhelmed by the busyness of life. Running after five kids day and night, school, sports, cleaning, laundry, cooking, groceries and of course the blog… by the time I get to bed I often wonder where the day has gone. To encourage myself and other parents to regularly take a moment to slow down and enjoy family life I have decided to join the fabulous Unplug and Play initiative by Kinderling:
Created by a group of talented parents Kinderling Kids radio introduces Aussie kids to a broad universe of music, stories and creative expression. Kinderling is making radio cool again by delivering an awesome mix of new and old, fun, interesting, engaging content that listeners of all ages and stages will love (and you don’t even need a radio to get on the right Kinderling wavelength).
From now until October Kinderling is promoting the #ScreenFreeChallenge, a fantastic initiative for families all around Australia to switch off the screens once a week and enjoy some good, old-fashioned family play and make memories that last a lifetime. Whether you play a board game, get out the dress-up box, go for a bike ride, paint a family portrait, bake biscuits or play hopscotch, when you ‘Unplug and Play’ you are connecting on a personal level with the people who matter most: your family.
For this week’s #ScreenFreeChallenge I popped into my local Spotlight store and picked up this awesome Build-You-Own Princess Castle for just $5, such a steal! It’s a huge cardboard play house that you put together yourself first, then you decorate it with markers or paint. We had such a good time looking at the instructions and building it together (fun team building activity) and even with four kids there was plenty of room for everyone to colour in the sides. Now it is proudly sitting in our living room inhabited by four pretty princesses and a handsome knight.
Need some inspiration? Every Thursday from 12-1pm you can tune into Kinderling Conversation for some great Unplug and Play tips and tricks to help you and your family rediscover the joy of living the moment, something we should all do more often. Get your Kinderling fix anytime and anywhere through DAB+ digital radio, the free Kinderling Radio App or live-streaming on the Kinderling website.
Come hang out with the cool kids and join a bunch of awesome Unplug and Play #ScreenFreeChallenge Ambassadors like Jay Laga’aia, Lah Lah (Tina Harris), HG Nelson, Yumi Stynes, Craig McLachlan and Dr. Kristy Goodwin.
