I know it’s only October but when it comes to festive fashion you can’t start your shopping early enough. For ‘real’ Aussie girls there may be plenty of choice in pretty frocks but for the Australian Girl doll it’s first come first served and if the precious years are anything to go by the annual Christmas dress is guaranteed to sell out in a flash:

Every year the Australian Girl design team combines their creative efforts to design a lovely new doll dress that will leave you wishing it came in big sizes too. Take a look at the brand new 2015 Christmas Dress (RRP $24.95), how gorgeous is that?!

Australian Girl Mary-JanesWe all know you can’t get more Christmassy than red and green which is why this year’s Christmas dress features a double layer tulle underskirt in a refreshing lime green colour. The red and white polka dot dress is beautifully made with a lined bodice and finished off with a lime green ribbon and bow to match the underskirt. Just add some cute sandals, flats or Mary Janes and your Australian Girl is ready for the festive season!

Australian Girl Dress Christmas

As always the attention to detail is next to none and great care has been taken to ensure a perfect fit and easy dressing and undressing for little hands. Unlike traditional velcro which often pulls and tugs on clothing and hair the 2015 Christmas Dress (like all other Australian Girl doll clothing) is designed with convenient press stud closures at the back that are gentle on the fabric and your doll’s hair, after all no one likes brushing out the tangles.

If you’re keen to surprise your little lady with this beautiful party frock for her Australian girl this Christmas please keep in mind that stock is limited and once sold out there will be no more shipments. We recommend you get your order in early to avoid disappointment.

One of the awesome things about having a newborn is that it’s a brilliant excuse for some shopping: Beautiful clothes for baby (and mum!), pretty wraps, gorgeous blankets and of course a new nappy bag in line with the latest trends. Australian designer label gr8x has just released its latest collection and I have already spotted the perfect match to my navy blue Joolz ride:

Charlotte Tote

The brand new Charlotte Tote (RRP $159.95, available in Twilight Blue and Dove Grey) is sure to be a hit with hip mamas who are looking for a stylish baby bag that ticks all the boxes.

Turn heads wherever you go with this practical tote-style bag featuring the trendy new Avalon Damask print and matching PU leather shoulder straps/trim. It has a strong, high quality nylon outer that is easy to wipe-clean and a handy front pouch that can be unzipped, creating a perfect mini-bag for your car keys, phone and some change or even baby’s dummy.

gr8x Charlotte Tote Dove GreyOf course there are plenty more pockets to help you stay organised: a convenient ‘slide pocket’ at the front, two handy end pockets on either side (ideal for your water bottle and baby’s milk) and a range of internal pockets to keep all your baby gear neat and tidy. To stop your precious new bag from getting dirty and damaged the base has been fitted with protective feet that lift your bag off the ground, allowing you to enjoy your bag for longer.

As always the new gr8x designs include a quality insulated, zipped bottle traveller, padded change mat in gr8x signature print and a set of adjustable stroller clips to easily attach your bag to your pram or stroller.

With a keen (amateur!) photographer as a dad it is no surprise that our kids absolutely love happy snaps. They are always willing to show off their biggest smiles and miss 5 regularly comes home from kindy with a pretend camera made from cardboard or wood so she can take her own photos too. Knowing she would soon have a new baby sibling she has been begging us for a real camera so you can imagine her delight when we presented her with this VTech gift on the day Harriet was born:

Kidizoom Twist Plus

The Kidizoom Twist Plus Camera (RRP $89.95, available in pink and blue) makes the perfect gift for young wanna-be photographers aged 3-9 years old. Designed with active children in mind this child-friendly camera is tough, sturdy and packed with cool features that will get the creative juices flowing.

Kidizoom PinkFitted with a 2-megapixel camera, built-in auto flash, video/ voice recorder and 4x digital zoom the Kidizoom Twist Plus allows children to record their favourite moments with the simple click of a button. They can then view and edit their snaps or videos on the large 2.2-inch colour LCD screen, create a super cool movie or put together a fun photo album with special effects. The end result can be uploaded to your computer using the included USB-cable to be watched, shared or printed as you please.

After a brief introduction Juliet quickly worked out how to control the Kidizoom camera and she was snapping away in no time. She had lots of fun exploring all the different options, especially the two-way ‘spin’ camera (endless ‘selfies’), voice recording (No.1 hit Let It Go) and special colour effects were a huge success and have resulted in hours of giggles for the three big kids.

Miss 5 taking ‘selfies’

Hip daddy and I had so much fun going through the photos on our computer, I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. From silly faces to half-eaten sandwiches, from a sleeping cat to the baby having a nappy change and from mind blowing dance moves to heartwarming covers of their favourite songs, there’s definitely never a boring moment in our house!

Miss Hattie wiggling her little toes

The camera works on 4 AA batteries and has a 256MB memory which holds around 350 photos, that’s a lot of sweet baby pictures and hilarious photos of your siblings! If desired the memory can be expanded by inserting a microSD card (not included). If you’re planning a long trip over the Christmas holidays you may want to think ahead and bring extra batteries/memory card, you don’t want to miss out on your best picture! As a parent I appreciate the fact that you can turn the sound down or even completely off, particularly pleasant in a fully-packed car with a sleeping baby.

Bonus: Just in case taking photos and videos wasn’t enough the Kidizoom Twist Plus also comes with 5 easy-to-play games where you can select your own photo to be part of the game, now that’s what I call interactive fun (even hip daddy’s camera doesn’t have games!)

VTech Kidizoom 3

Her crazy sister

Like most parents we try to capture the special moments in our children’s lives on camera and we will continue to do so, but allowing your child to be in charge of the buttons too is a lovely way to record life from a different point of view. Kids don’t care about perfect posing, neat hair or sitting straight, their greatest treasures are the funny, silly and messy moments that will be held dear for years to come.

Roadshow Entertainment

Justine, Alex, Karen, Teo… just to name a few. Over the years ABCKids’ Play School has seen a long line of well-loved presenters and for a lot of children the familiar faces will be a big part of their Play School memories. But kids are not the only ones keeping an eye on the Play School cast, according to the media the latest crew member has caught the attention of Aussie mums too. If you (or your kids) can’t get enough of Eddie Perfect you can now watch him on demand in the latest Play School DVD release:

Play School DVD

Get ready for more than two hours of singing, dancing, making, playing, dressing up, reading, cooking and more in ‘Play School: Round and Round’. There are lots of ways to go ’round and round’: spin the Razzle Dazzle wheel and roll your head, legs and arms, see the girls play ring-around-the-rosie, watch clowns Roly and Poly perform or watch Humpty tumble down the hill.

As a family with five children 7 years and under we love Play School because it has something fun for everyone, it’s one TV show all kids give the thumbs up. Each of the five full-size Play School episodes runs for approximately 25 minutes which is just enough time to prepare dinner, hang and fold a few loads of washing or do some dishes and mop the kitchen floor, now that’s what I call family friendly!

‘Play School: Round and Round’ is available on DVD (RRP $14.95) at major retailers across Australia.

To find out more Roadshow Entertainment, to browse all Play School titles and to order your copy online visit www.roadshow.com.au.

Heavenly Harriet

One month ago today we welcomed our beautiful Harriet into the world. During my last hospital check-up I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia so to be on the safe side my obstetrician ordered induction of pregnancy that same day, quite the shock when you weren’t expecting anything to happen for another 2-3 weeks. In just a few short hours we organised a team of wonderful helpers to look after the four older kids while I was in hospital and off we went to meet our new baby…

In the end it took well into the next day for our baby to make its appearance and, as opposed to the little boy most people had predicted, on September 25 we were presented with a gorgeous little lady. Even though I have given birth to four babies before that special moment of holding your child for the first time will never become less magical. How wonderful to hold such a tiny, sticky, slippery little bundle in your arms and finally lay eyes on the small person you’ve carried inside for 9 precious months.

Less than 24 hours later we brought baby Harriet home and busy family life started straight away with a sick 2-year old and hip daddy who had to go back to work on day 3. At least it was school holidays so I was spared the school rush for two glorious weeks! Of course by now I can’t even remember life before Harriet and it feels like she has always been part of our family, everyone has settled in just beautifully.

Filled with cosy cuddles, 3-hourly feeds and broken nights that first month flies by and no matter how hard you try you will not remember all of it so I am extremely grateful for the luxury of digital photography. How lucky are we to be able to capture an endless supply of special moments with the simple click of a button? Especially my parents (Harriet’s grandparents) all the way in The Netherlands are loving the many baby snaps arriving in their inbox almost daily.

The only downside of digital photos is that they often stay locked in the computer and don’t make it into print. With Christmas slowly sneaking up on is now is the time to upload your favourite pictures to Photobox and turn them into prints, Christmas cards or even a special personalised gift for yourself or proud grandparent to enjoy. Some of my top gift ideas are the photo calendars, canvases or photo snow globes, so cute and original! Photobox always has excellent special offers and sign-up deals so keep an eye on the website for the next great deal.

Treasure and cherish your babies for they grow up too quickly, I’m off to enjoy more precious hugs with our little Hattie…
