When I was a child I absolutely loved the Christmas holidays, if we were lucky it snowed so we could go outside and when it was rainy and cold we enjoyed ourselves inside with puzzles, craft and Christmas movies. Beethoven, Home Alone, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz and of course Mary Poppins, we loved snuggling up on the couch with a good movie.
Impacably played by queen-of-the-screen Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins first floated into people’s homes holding her trusty umbrella back in 1964 and she has been flying the globe every since, stealing the hearts of young and old along the way. The rather quirky nanny is just what the Banks household needs to tame the rather unruly children Jane and Michael. Mary has mastered the recipe for success when it comes to teaching children good behaviour and nice manners, it’s all about making it fun and interesting, and don’t forget a good dose of magic and a catchy song.
Scrape your throats, practise your do-re-mi’s, tap your toes and join the musical adventure that is Mary Poppins.
Mary Poppins is now available on Blu-ray (RRP $24.95) at major retailers across Australia.
