Rudy and the Dodo

If you ‘like’ Hip little one on Facebook you may have read about our son’s hospital adventure last week. On the first day of term one of his kindy buddies, for reasons we will never know, decided to put a little seed in my son’s ear… To cut a long story short he ended up under general anaesthetic to have the seed removed. Today is his first day back at school and of course he is little nervous, I so wish I had on hand some of these gorgeous Lunch Mail cards from Rudy and the Dodo to put a smile on his face:

Lunch Mail ($14.95 per set of 24)

Lunch Mail ($14.95 per set of 24)

Lunch MailEach Lunch Mail kit ($14.95) contains 24 different messages, printed on cool little square cards with a pop out window. From gentle encouragements and lovely compliments to fun questions, kids will love finding one of these surprises in their lunchbox. The funky and colourful illustrations are sure to brighten up that soggy ham and cheese sandwich, bruised apple and squashed banana.

Lunch Mail LoveYou can also add your own special note on the back of the card for a personal touch. I know how much I love a phone call or sweet text from my hubby to break up my day so I hope my kids will love a midday mama message too. There are three Lunch Mail kits to choose from, I think they all look equally awesome and I am definitely going to buy these for my little kindy students!

Stomp

When people look at our son the first thing they say is that he looks like daddy. Not only does he have the same dark hair and beautiful brown eyes, they also share some of the same interests. Both my husband and our little boy love anything rhythmic, as soon as they hear music I see their fingers moving and their feet start tapping. If you’re a fan of rhytm too you will love Stomp:

For 22 years Stomp has been travelling around the globe with an exciting show that binds people together. No matter how young or old you are or where in the world you live, the wordless combination of rhythm, dance, comedy and theatre gets everyone excited. After their spectacular performance at the London 2012 Olympics Stomp is now more popular than ever so shake those hands, warm up your feet and get ready, Stomp is on its way to Australia.

Stomp, banging the bins

Next month Stomp will travel around Australia, treating fans in Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney to a smashing show filled with awesome new music, choreography and fancy routines. Using every day items the talented Stomp performers create the most amazing rhythms that will have you bouncing on your seat, it may even give you some inspiration for a routine of your own when you get home! Stomp is a unique experience that will captivate from start to finish.

Stomp, trolley dash

To celebrate the return of Stomp to Australia we are giving you the chance to win one of four double passes to this fabulous show, travel to/from the event is the responsibility of the winner:

I tried my hardest to find the right words to describe how gorgeous, soft and cuddly these big teddies are but nothing speaks louder than a few snap shots of my bunch (minus the baby) with their furry buddies:

My big three with their My Birthday Teddies

My big three with their My Birthday Teddies

The first thing you’ll notice when your My Birthday Teddy arrives is that each teddy comes securely packaged in its very own Australia Post box, this way your teddy is sure to make it to its destination safe and sound and it makes a fabulous little makeshift bed too. The fluffy bear is wrapped in tissue paper and his/her birth certificate is included to make the adoption final.

If you had any trouble picturing the true size of a My Birthday Teddy bear the above picture says it all. Standing 50cm tall they are big bears with big hearts, I knew my girls would love them but even my son sleeps with his teddy. The kids loved spotting their name and birth date on the teddies and they especially liked that I included their middle names too (they don’t hear them very often!). I am convinced they will really treasure their My Birthday Teddies as they get older.

With just two weeks to go until we draw the lucky winner of the My Birthday Teddy make sure you get your entries in. Good luck!

Pan Macmillan Australia

After week after week of sickness and doctor visits with my bunch I was starting to feel rather exhausted myself,  luckily I have a wonderful husband who sat me down on the couch with a warm blanket and let me relax with a good book. Lottie Moggach’s first novel Kiss Me First had been laying on my bedside table since its July 1st release date so I was very happy I could finally get started on it.

As you may remember the last book I read was set in London in 1926, a bit of a change from Kiss Me First which is very modern and full of Facebook, Skype, forums and chats. Two girls, two completely different lives are about to be connected and changed forever.

Kiss Me First by Lottie Moggach

Kiss Me First by Lottie Moggach

Leila is in her early twenties and a bit of a loner, some would call her dull and she doesn’t really belong anywhere. The only place she feels at home is on a special forum called Red Pill where she discusses ethics and her opinion is valued. Then there is Tess. Beautiful, active, admired, adored, interesting and quirky, she seems to have many friends but they don’t know that deep down she has been struggling for years and all she wants is to give up.

When Leila is approached by the mysterious man behind Red Pill she feels flattered. He asks her if she thinks people should be able to end their life if/when they want to, and if she would be willing to help someone do so if needed. Tess is so tired of her battle with depression that she wants to die but she doesn’t want to hurt the people around her. The plan is for Tess to ‘escape’ to a far-away destination and end her life, while Leila takes over her electronic identity and keeps up her online social life.

Lottie MoggachIt takes month and months of preparation in which Leila finds out as much as she can about Tess. Endless notes, emails, tapes and Skype calls, Leila slowly feels like she becomes Tess. Then there is the moment of leaving and from then on Leila ‘is’ Tess, sending/replying to emails, posting Facebook status updates, photo shopping photos of Tess at her destination and filling Tess’s imaginary diary with adventures and new people. There are many little lies that turn into big ones and there is the increasing contact with Tess’s ex boyfriend Connor. Bit by bit everything starts to unravel…

Kiss Me First is an exciting, refreshing and modern book that is full of surprises. Every time you think you know what is next something new happens, I really had to stop myself from quickly reading the last page to know how it would end. Fabulous read, can’t wait to hear more from Lottie Moggach.
