Sunday coffee with Avidiva

This Sunday we are sitting down for a quick cup of coffee with the fresh new face of Avidiva, mum Jamie. Jamie recently took over from the lovely Cass and has been very busy making Avidiva her own. I have already some of Avidiva’s exciting new arrivals and there is more to come…

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
Sleeping in til lunchtime – well, I can dream and reminisce about those by gone days can’t I?!
Nowadays my ideal Sunday entails snuggling in bed with my hubby and my cheeky 2 year old monkey, reading books and singing nursery rhymes. After treating ourselves to a cooked breakfast, we like to do something fun as a family such as heading down to the beach for a swim and an to attempt to catch a fish, bike riding around the river or having a picnic at the park.

What do you like most about running Avidiva?
The flexibility and the opportunity it provides to me to maintain a good balance between working, being a full time mum and having something for “me”. I was working outside last month when I issued the first e-newsletter. In celebration, I poured myself a glass of wine and while I was basking in the sunshine, I thought “This is the life – I could get use to this!”. I felt content and had the sensation of wishing for nothing! I certainly don’t miss the commute to and from the city and sitting in a windowless office.

What did you do before you started Avidiva?
I use to be a commercial business banker prior to travelling overseas and settling back home to have babies. Whilst traveling I tried my hand at being an advertising executive for a newspaper and as a manager for a retail store. My favourite job was being part of the management team of a shopping centre. I assisted with the day to day running of the centre, marketing, promotional events and much more including giving a helping hand to Santa at Christmastime with writing reply letters to the local children who pinned their wish lists to the Christmas Tree. I found it to be such a fun and rewarding job.

What is your favourite Avidiva product?
My favourite Avidiva product is my son’s Lelbys Bean Chair. This was the first item I bought from Avidiva for my little man’s first birthday, long before taking Avidiva on board. I love it’s unique design and not only is it lovely to look at with it’s gorgeous bluebell garden pattern, but it is so durable and comfortable to sit on. Another favourite is the I’m Toy Cow Wooden Ride On. This was a gift for my son from his grandparents and when I bought Avidiva, adding this range to the store was at the top of my list. It is beautifully made and one of his most favourite toys.

What can we expect of Avidiva in the near future?
There will be a variety of new ranges joining us. Including beautiful homemade clothing, skincare and goodies from local Perth designers and some new “Avidiva” branded ones too. Subscribe to our newsletter to learn about how you will soon be able to send a gift wish list to family and friends along with your baby shower invitations. Also, in celebration of the cheeky lad who has joined Avidiva’s logo, keep your eye out on an upcoming competition to win one of the I’m Toy wooden ride ons.

Because you never know what the weather will be like in school holidays you have to prepare for everything. Plan some great outings, go through the shed and clean up all the outdoor toys and of course make sure you have some inside entertainment on hand for rainy days too. Disney has just released some fantastic new titles that will keep your little ones happy when the weather is letting you down:

The gorgeous chihuahua Chloe is back for another adventure in Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva la fiesta!, in which the lovable dog family and its owners move into a famous hotel. Chloe loves all the luxuries but Papi is not so sure. He loved ‘homeschooling’ the 5 pups and now he has to hand over the reins to some dog trainer at the hotel, not easy for a loving dad. Is this fancy hotel life really as good as it seems and what is the dog trainer up to when no one is watching? Papi is determined to find out…

Beverly Chihuahua 1, 2 and 3 are suitable for the whole family, after all you are never too young or too old to enjoy a talking dog let alone a whole family of them! The twins’ favourite part was when the dogs ruined the freshly manicured hotel garden, how come that doesn’t surprise me? Don’t worry, the dogs made sure to tidy up after making a mess so there was an important message after all.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva la fiesta! is available on Blu-ray ($49.95) or DVD ($39.95) and is on sale at major retailers across Australia.

With Mickey Mouse Clubhouse you can never go wrong. The famous Disney friends are always in for bite-size fun with short episodes that can just fill that dreaded witching hour while you try to cook dinner. The kids will love discovering the magic of the Mousketool and singing along with Mickey’s Hot Dog (you might find yourself humming along too). In the two new Disney Junior DVD little space lovers can join Mickey and his friends as they explore the Milky Way.

In Mickey’s message from Mars there are strange flashing lights coming from Mars, it looks like Mickey’s Martian buddy needs help. You can always count on Mickey and the team to offer a helping hand so they hop in the spaceship and off they go. In Space Adventure the space adventurers board the clubhouse rocket on a mission to find a mystery planet, but first they have to find ten special stars. Can you help them?

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mickey’s message from Mars and Space Adventure are available on DVD ($19.95) from major retailers across Australia.

A little midnight treat, Choc Vanilla by night

Although I am not much looking forward to being heavily pregnant in the middle of summer I am strangely excited about having a summer baby for once. My other three children were winter babies, all born in August so I have plenty of experience with chilly night feeds. Instead of covering myself in layer upon layer of warm pyjamas I can finally shop for gorgeous, summery sleepwear at Cake Lingerie.

I had been admiring this Choc Vanilla Lingerie Nursing Camisole ($54.90, size S-XL) for a while and now that I have a set waiting in my wardrobe I can’t wait for the warmer nights. This luxurious, silky soft camisole fits perfectly around my growing belly and there is plenty of room left to grow. The support is surprisingly good even for someone with a small frame and larger bust like me. I can really appreciate the flattering details like the gentle gathering and sweet ruched shoulder straps, very feminine.

Once baby is born the Choc Vanilla Nursing Camisole provides easy nursing access, the drop down cups are practical and discrete and everything else can stay nicely covered up (always one of my worries). I’ll be packing this set for the hospital for sure! Not only is the black colour (with small vanilla dots) very slimming, the fabric is also very forgiving so you can feel and look beautiful. After all, Cake Lingerie’s message is: Love the body you’re in!

Any expecting mum will agree that there’s nothing more unpleasant than a tight waistband, which is why the Choc Vanilla Lounge Pant ($54.90, size S-XL) sits under the belly. The high quality cotton feels so soft that you won’t want to take these pants off, they are so comfy! The lace trim adds a feminine touch to the relaxed, 3/4 length lounge pants and I am sure you can see why this set is much more than just sleepwear.

If Choc Vanilla does not make your taste buds tingle I am sure the beautiful Blue Berry or Apple Crumble version of this lovely Cake Lingerie set will get the thumbs up. A great addition to any maternity wardrobe and a gorgeous gift idea for a special mama-to-be.

Yesterday my wonderful husband and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. Six amazing, busy, crazy, fantastic, very blessed years together call for a very rare date night I thought, so our lovely neighbour looked after our trio for 2 hours while we enjoyed a quick but relaxing meal out. My husband was so surprised when he came home and I told him we were going out, I even dressed up my bump in a gorgeous new maternity dress by Eve of Eden.

Eve of Eden is an Australian fashion label that brings hip Aussie mums stylish, affordable and practical maternity clothing that is right on trend with the latest fashion. You can find the huge Eve of Eden range at www.maternitysale.com.au where everything is always on sale, yay! With so many different styles and colours you can easily put together a complete Eve of Eden maternity wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Because they know expecting mums don’t always feel like dragging their growing belly out to the stores all Eve of Eden orders are shipped free Australia wide.

So back to my new dinner dress, I chose this beautiful Navy Shirt Dress ($73) with lovely button details and sleeves that can be rolled and buttoned up. The great thing about this dress is that the belt is not attached to the dress, so you can wear it above your belly while pregnant and at your waist after baby has been born (I love maternity clothes that you can wear afterwards too, fantastic investment). You can even open the buttons for easy breastfeeding, I will definitely try that when the time comes.

Every pregnant woman needs a good pair of maternity jeans and Eve of Eden has plenty of styles to choose from: skinny, straight, boyfriend or cargo, there is a style for everyone. The Eve of Eden Skinny Jeans are made with quality denim and an underbelly band that is soft and comfortable for your baby belly. These jeans are a great fit and with the belly band well hidden by your top no one would ever guess they are maternity jeans!

With warmer weather finally on the horizon now is the time to check out all the Summer styles available in store. This Kaftan Style Dress ($57, available in summer white and minty gelato) is proving to be a top seller; it is light, cool and comfortable and of course the pastel colour is super stylish. All you need is a pair of cute summer sandals and you are ready to show off your bump in style.

To find out more about Eve of Eden, to browse the range and to order online visit www.maternitysale.com.au.

For your chance to win a Minty Kaftan Style Dress in your choice of size (subject to availability) visit www.maternitysale.com.au and answer the following question: Aside from the styles featured above which other Eve of Eden product do you really like?

As you might know I am a proud mother of two daughters, two beautiful girls who look completely different. My tiny miss 4 has long fine hair nearly up to her waist and chubby miss 2 has a gorgeous head full of curls, looking after their hair is a full time job for me! Knots and tangles, fluffy out-of-bed hair, I have seen it all. They know the brushing has to be done but usually it does cause an argument and even tears. Until the lovely Ashlea from Skip to my Lou told me about this magical brush called the Tangle Teezer.

I was so desperate that I hopped online straight away and started reading reviews/watching this video about the Tangle Teezer, I was sold within 5 minutes. Because my nearest retailer was a bit too far away (and because I love the ease of online shopping) I ordered our Tangle Teezer online from www.tangle-teezer.com.au. Although not the cheapest hair brush around ($29.95-$34.95, free delivery) I didn’t blink twice, after reading all those raving reviews from all over the world I had no doubt I was onto a winner.

The Tangle Teezer arrived within days and the only regret I have is that I didn’t buy it earlier. This hairbrush is just amazing and the two girls (and I) are absolutely loving it. No more tugging and pulling, and no more bunches of hair coming out. The award winning Tangle Teezer is developed by a UK hairdresser to detangle wet and dry hair without damaging or breaking it, it just slides through!

There are a few different styles available in a range of colours: the Tangle Teezer Original, Tangle Teezer Compact, Tangle Teezer Salon Elite and Tangle Teezer Flowerpot. This last one is perfect for little girls and I think I might get my miss 4 one for Christmas, she would be over the moon. Not only will they love the flower shape and bright colours, they can also use it to store their hairbands in. Make sure you check out the video review to see the real size of the Flowerpot, it is bigger than you think.
