Now that you’ve read how much we love Cheeky Little Soles I thought it would be nice to get to know the face behind this fantastic Australian label. Today we are joined by gorgeous Cheeky Little Soles owner (and mum) Lisa for Sunday Coffee.
What does your ideal Sunday look like?
My ideal Sunday would be cuddles in bed with my family and then enjoying a coffee and breakfast at a café I haven’t been to before. There are so many good cafes in Melbourne to discover. Last weekend we went to The Auction Rooms in North Melbourne and the breakfast (and coffee!) was absolutely delicious.
Why did you start Cheeky Little Soles?
My daughter Lily was the reason and inspiration behind starting Cheeky Little Soles. In 2005 when Lily was 6 months old she kept slipping on our floorboards during her early attempts at learning to stand (she did everything early!). I searched for top quality, stylish and reasonably priced soft soled leather baby shoes, and nothing on the market fulfilled my requirements. Unable to just sit back, I set about designing my own range.
What do you love most about running Cheeky Little Soles?
There are lots of things I love about running Cheeky Little Soles. First and foremost I love being able to design and produce a fantastic quality product for the mums and bubs of Australia and the world. I love being about to be the driver of my own brand, it gives me the flexibility to be able to be there for my two young children.
What is your favourite Cheeky Little Soles design?
Ohhh I have a few!
At the moment I love the Cheeky Little Soles Dumper Baby Shoes and our Cheeky Little Soles Navy Anklet Walkers.
But my all time favourite would have to be Cheeky Little Soles Scooter Baby Shoes as that was the design that my son Finn wore and loved the most.
What should parents look for when selecting baby/toddler shoes?
Babies feet are soft and pliable, and pressure from the wrong type of footwear may hinder their development. Pediatricians recommend that bare foot is best for tiny feet to grow and strengthen naturally, but as parents we know it is not always practical. So…. soft soles are the next best thing!
When purchasing soft soled shoes for your baby make sure you get the sizing right! Babies and toddlers feet vary greatly in size. The best way to determine the correct infant shoe size to purchase is by measuring their feet to get the perfect fit. You want at least .5 but a maximum of 1cm wiggle room. Babies and toddlers have enough of a challenge getting up on their feet, poor or heavy fitting shoes are not going to help.
Once your little one has taken their first steps and is confident in putting one foot in front of the other (after roughly 6-8 weeks), they will be ready to move into a light-weight rubber soled shoe Walker range. We suggest during this transition time that you put a Walker on their feet when they are out discovering their new skill of walking, but put a soft sole shoe on them when they are inside. A soft sole shoe inside will continue to enable them to feel the floor and develop their walking skills.
